Beautifully Renovated 200 Year Old Stone Farmhouse on Mythical Island of Gotland
- Minimum stay:2 nights

Beautifully renovated 200-year-old stone farm house on the mythical island of Gotland, often referred to as the Martha's Vineyard of Stockholm, one is only a 35 minute flight from Stockholm, Sweden. The house has a large eat-in country kitchen, a formal dining room with working fireplace, a lovely, sunny living room, also with fireplace, cozy furnished alcoves for quiet reading and writing post cards, a stunning evening veranda with plenty of room for outside dining and enjoying the long, sunlit Swedish evenings. The 2-acre garden has apple trees with a hammock, a herb garden, a greenhouse, a playhouse and a sand box for the children.
Although nestled in the quiet countryside, one is only 20 minutes from the charming town of Hemse, which offers a famous gourmet fresh fish shop, grocery stores, banks, liquor stores, post office, a wonderful bakery, and restaurants.
From the craggy northern island of Faro, where Ingmar Bergman lives and the monumental 'Raukar' are to be found, (gigantic fingers of stone carved into fantastic shapes by the sea), to the bucolic South, Gotland is unique.
As Conde Naste Traveler wrote, 'the island is a wonderful mix of lush farmland; small untouched lakes; wild, bleak moors, meadows full of wildflowers and orchids; tiny villages; a coastland so various that some parts of it look like the most dramatic Oregon has to offer, whereas others are as wide, serene, and lovely as a Dutch seascape; pine and spruce forests; wild horses and.96 medeival churches.'

We were 10 guests, friends and family from the US and Europe who came to share this wonderful house for three weeks last summer. It was lovely. The real, real Gotland and close to the ocean, mideival churches and amazing farmer's markets. We rode, swam, explored Visby, the kids took sailing classes, we even went to a country circus and had dinner (lamb, what else?) with the local farmer. The youg uns partied in town a couple of times as well. Take the daytrip to the outer islands for a South Sea experience and rent a bike while you are there! We'll be back! Thank you Caroline for being such a great hostess!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0
