A beautifully restored villa with a very special history as an ancient glass factory. It is situated in a quaint village which makes you feel a part of the culture. The accomodations give a sense of the old atmosphere and yet with all modern conveniences. The property is very well maintained and the service is delightful and always helpful. With a car, one can visit all the attractions both in Umbria and in Tuscany. Staying one week was not enough and we look forward to coming back another time.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, age 55+, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, girls getaway.
Owner response: We are so very happy that your stay in September in L'Antica Vetreria Villa and our beautiful village met your every expectation! We and our Italian hosts strive to provide wonderful service and help to our guests. And we welcome you back to stay anytime you want to experience "la dolce vita" and the true beauty of Italian life in a village. We certainly agree that one week is not enough time to explore all the sights of Umbria and Tuscany available within a short distance! So come back soon. Colleen and Tom

Our stay at L'Antica Vetreria, in June 2012, was beyond our expectations. What a paradise carved into the village of Piegaro. The villa was centrally located as we took day trips to Rome, Florence, Assisi, and Cortona to name a few. The accommodations at the villa were excellent. The pool was refreshing after site seeing in 90 degree weather. The locals were gracious and entertaining. Tom was a great host as he took us on tours of the village and winery. His knowledge of the area and history of the towns was very informative and interesting. Colleen and Tom go above and beyond for their guests. We will definitely be back. Tony and Nancy FioreOwner response: We absolutely loved having the delightful Fiore group stay in our beautiful villa and our charming little village! You are guests who inspire us with your enthusiasm and appreciation. It is guests like you who make us realize that we are truly living our dream of sharing our passion for Umbria with all. We hope you keep your promise to return for we would love to spend time with you once again.

Accommodation at L’Antica Vetreria in Piegaro, Umbria is available in different configurations for from 2 to 10 people. We had a group of 10 to share the Villa for 2 weeks. It certainly lived up to our expectations, with 5 double ensuite bedrooms, a well-equipped kitchen, and comfortable, spacious communal living areas on two levels. Outside there is a terrace and barbecue, and a pool. The location is within a village but it is very peaceful and has gorgeous country views across the valley. Colleen and Tom were very welcoming and attended to our occasional problems very quickly. They introduced us to the shopkeepers in the little village and the people who live there, who are very friendly. Piegaro makes a good base to explore the many delights of Umbria and Tuscany, and Colleen and Tom have many suggestions to help their guests. Highly recommended. This was a holiday that will live in the memories of our group for ever.Owner response: Larry, Your amazing group of talented and friendly people will remain in our memory forever too! What a wonderful two weeks! So happy that we got to know you all and made good memories together. In the years spent planning your trip via email, I feel we got to know you, but really meeting your whole group exceeded our expectations of amazing guests! Guests like you really make us feel we have achieved our dreams of creating a welcoming space in our historic property in a sweet village to explore Umbria and Tuscany. Grazie mille, Colleen and Tom

My family and I rented the Villa at L'Antica Vetreria for the first week of June 2012 and it comfortably accommodated all ten of us. It was the perfect spot for a family reunion, with my sister and her family renting the Cantina apartment next door. Having the warmth and convenience of a charming medieval Umbrian village right outside our door was fantastic. The Villa ia magnificent with gorgeous views from every room. Tom and Colleen are knowledgeable and friendly, and really went out of their way to help us. A truly special property!Owner response: Gay, We loved having your wonderful and amazing family stay with us! So many great memories of your time in Piegaro remain with us. There is so much to see and do, and remember that you have barely scratched the surface of Umbria and Tuscany, so we hope to see you again, and again!! Grazie mille for being such great guests! Piegaro will remember your family for sure. Ciao, Colleen and Tom

I don't know if I am a poetic enough writer to do justice writing about this property. Not only is there beauty to the eye in the unique, historical building, in the gorgeous views, and in the sweet village, there is also beauty for the soul in all of these elements. An experience like this is my favorite way to travel: some days my family took day trips to local sites and played tourist; other days we hung around the village, being a part of everyday community life. For the owners of this property, Colleen and Tom, this endeavor is so much more than a business; it is a passion of the heart that is evident in every detail, large and small. They are completely accessible by email, phone, or in person to share their joy and knowledge of the region, the people, and each and every logistical question you can throw their way. I traveled here with my husband and 6-year-old son, and we all found something to enjoy, and we all wished we could stay much, much longer than we were able. I can't imagine not visiting here again.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, sightseeing, families with teenagers, girls getaway.

A friend and I were travelling throughout Europe this summer and our last week was booked at L'antica Vetreria in Piegaro. We fell in love with L'Antica and the lovely, quiet village. It was the perfect place to spend our last week relaxing and enjoying this beautiful area of Umbria and Tuscany. The owner, Colleen, gave us tours to nearby villages and places of interest that we would never have gone on our own. We also visited some of the more well known tourist towns but the charm was in the places not well known to the tourists. Her knowledge of the area, the culture, people and history made our stay very special. Our room was completely furnished so we shopped at the local stores and cooked several meals in but also favored the local eating establishments that had fantastic food. You must try the Pizza Colleen at Osteria Juni's...I'm sure I'll never have one as good until I can return there. We had a beautiful view from our room of the and valley below and the village square is just a few steps from the entrance. Colleen gave pasta making classes one day to guests which was great fun and the glass factory offered etching classes and we each brought home a treasured piece.. I can't wait to go back. It's not just a place to stay, but Colleen has endeared herself to the local people and because of that, they make you feel welcome and embrace you as part of the village. A great stay, don't miss it.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We stayed at L’antica Vetria for one week from May 15th to 22nd.Colleen the owner was an excellent host, full of information about the area and very helpful. The little town that they are located (Piegaro) in is very nice and the people there are very friendly, tho may not speak much English so bring along a phrase book! Within a 1 minute walk is the little café (open good hours) a bank with ATM, a butcher, grocery story, glass museum restaurant. Within a 3 minute walk is a little store that sells everything you may have forgotten (tutti por la casa) And the local bakery post office are maybe a 10 minute walk at best. There is another store in that direction too about 5 minute walk at most just past the main parking where the Wednesday market is. We stayed in the AWESOME 5 bedroom Villa. Let me tell you that the Villa is spacious. It has 5 bedrooms each with their own full bathroom, it has a full kitchen, livingroom and fireplace and huge table on the mainfloor, along with 2 bedrooms. On one side you go up stairs to see 2 more bedrooms. On the other side you go half way up the stairs to a bedroom in the tower (with its own fireplace), and then at the top of the stairs you have another living room with TV and fireplace. There is a pool outside and each unit has their area with chairs and BBQ. As the weather was cooler than usual Colleen was able to order us some wood for the fireplace and we had a fire in the upstairs part of the villa 4 nights in a row to warm up after busy days of sight seeing. This place would be perfect for 3 to 5 couples easily. Colleen gave us a tour of the whole facility and all the rooms look awesome and would be great to stay in. This is a wonderful place to stay and a great location for visiting Tuscany and Umbria, We will definitely return here someday soon I hope!Did you find this review helpful? "We had such a lovely time, and I cannot tell you how much it meant to us to be able to have such a wonderful vacation together. You all made us feel so welcome; you made us feel a part of the family. We came home and GUSHED over every aspect of our trip. Your kindness and hospitality surpassed any expectation I had, and future guests need to know what a wonderful experience they are going to have."Did you find this review helpful? About the owner: We are presently living our dream full time in the amazing village of Piegaro! We love to greet our guests, give advice, teach pasta lessons and generally live the good life in a wonderful village where our friends and neighbors are so welcoming of us and also of our guests. Originally from Seattle we always dreamed of living in Italy someday. It is important not only to dream but to chase that dream with great passion! We love to share this passion with our guests from over 24 different countries.
Why the Owner Chose Piegaro:
It called to us! This vast abandoned glass factory which was the single most historic property in a pristine little perched hilltop village in Umbria on the border of Tuscany. We spent our honeymoon in Umbria in 1994 and fell in love with this region. After searching for 10 years we found our little piece of paradise! We lovingly restored it to become a beautiful and authentic destination for guests.
The Unique Benefits at this Villa:
Every evening the sun sets over the vast panoramic views from the windows and terraces of L'Antica Vetreria. The idyllic countryside is always tranquil and inviting. From the pool one can enjoy privacy and the expanding view over farmlands and hillsides filled with olive groves, vines and sunflower fields. But just steps away is the lively piazza with its shops and gourmet restaurants with outdoor terraces. Each evening one can sit in the piazza and watch the village children play, the elders take their evening walk and feel totally welcomed with warmth. We love to live the authentic life of Italy which cannot be done isolated in the countryside. This way we have the views and tranquility of the country, but the daily rhythms of village life. Everything you need is within these historic stone walls!
