Fantastic Vacation in Umbria
Fantastic Vacation in Umbria

We had the most amazing trip to Umbria, Italy in May, 2009. Staying at L'Antica Vetreria, a converted 12th century glass factory that has been renovated into wonderful apartments, our time at il Forno Due will never be forgotten. With our lovely home away from home as base camp, we traveled to many of the surrounding cities and really explored Umbria and Tuscany during the day, and returned home to an evening of swimming and relaxing. It was heaven.Recommended for: Sightseeing, people with disabilities, girls getaway, families with young children, adventure seekers, romantic getaway.
Owner response: We had a lovely time with Ardel and her wonderful family! They did an amazing tour of all the sights in Umbria and Tuscany, and even got to experience the beautiful waterfalls of Marmore! We hope they come back soon, for there even more sights to see.

I stayed at L'Antica Vetreria in early May 2010 in the apartment called "Il Forno Uno". It is very modern and fully equipped, including everything you would need in the kitchen and even a hair-dryer in the bathroom. The bed and the pillows were comfortable; towels were provided; and there is access to a washer/dryer. The owner also provided both wireless and cable access to the Internet. My unit opened directly onto the pool area and had views of the Umbrian countryside. The comune of Piegaro is accessible by car to places such as Perugia, Orvieto, Spello, Assisi, Todi, Gubbio and Lake Trasimeno and the property is accessible by foot to a glass-making museum, a bakery, bar, butcher-shop, restaurant and convenience store. If you are in this area, make sure to eat at Il Faliero in Sant'Arcangelo, which is near Lake Trasimeno. The owner is very knowledgeable about the area and the town itself, and was very helpful. I would stay here again and would recommend it without reservation.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

My daughter and I had a wonderful time staying at Villa L'Antica Vetreria. Our expectations based on their website were exceeded by the reality. Amazing views, high quality furnishings, very comfortable rooms, plenty of space. Colleen Simpson knows all there is to know about the area, and pointed us to several lovely day trips. I already have recommended this location to several friends and family members. A truly amazing trip. Can't wait to go back!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

I spent 1 week in the Il Forno Apartment in May 2010 and I must say it was absolutely lovely. The apartment had everyting I could possibly need including a fabulous view of the Umbria country side. Colleen was a most gracious hostess and was available for questions, recommendations, directions, maps, etc. I would highly recommend this property and will plan to stay with Colleen again on my next trip to Umbria.Did you find this review helpful? We had a wonderful time last May at L'Antica Vetraria. It is a beautiful property, owned and run by Tom and Colleen from Seattle, and they are excellent and knowledgable hosts. It served as our hub from which we did day trips to the surrounding hill towns in Umbria and Tuscany. Tom and Colleen have managed to preserve the most wonderful historical elements of this ancient glass factory while providing modern facility with all conveniences. We stayed in the "IL Forno Uno" apartment (2 couples) and had more than ample room. The view is spectacular. Would highly recommend L'Antica Vetraria" to anyone who wants to come back after a busy day of sightseeing to a peaceful, beautiful setting with all the conveniences of home.Did you find this review helpful? I spent one week at il Forno Uno in May 2010 and I most say I was very impressed with the property itself, the apartment, the owners and the quaint village of Piegaro. The apartment was lovely with plenty of room, great amenities and a fabulous view of the Umbria countryside. We were able to do many day trips from here and explored beautiful hilltowns, a winery and just drove around enjoying the beautiful views everywhere you looked. Collen was the perfect hostess helping us with every little detail. I highly recommend this property and plan to come back!Recommended for: Sightseeing, girls getaway, families with young children, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

I stayed at L'Antica Vetreria in early May 2010. The apartment Il Forno Uno was large, very clean and modern, including the kitchen and bathroom. The kitchen was fully equipped right down to the electric coffee pot, and I had access to a washer/dryer. Also, the owner provided both wireless and cable internet service. The comune of Piegaro is within easy driving distance to Perugia, Spello, Assisi, Castiglione del Lago and Lake Trasimeno. It's a good place to stay if you are touring Umbria and southern Tuscany. My favorite restaurant was Il Faliero in Sant'Arcangelo, across from the lake. Within walking distance from L'Antica Vetreria were a bar, bakery, grocery store, butcher shop and convenience store. I enjoyed my stay there and would stay there again and can recommend it to others without reservation.Recommended for: Sightseeing, girls getaway, romantic getaway, age 55+.

About the owner: We are presently living our dream full time in the amazing village of Piegaro! We love to greet our guests, give advice, teach pasta lessons and generally live the good life in a wonderful village where our friends and neighbors are so welcoming of us and also of our guests. Originally from Seattle we always dreamed of living in Italy someday. It is important not only to dream but to chase that dream with great passion! We love to share this passion with our guests from over 24 different countries.
Why the Owner Chose Piegaro:
It called to us! This vast abandoned glass factory which was the single most historic property in a pristine little perched hilltop village in Umbria on the border of Tuscany. We spent our honeymoon in Umbria in 1994 and fell in love with this region. After searching for 10 years we found our little piece of paradise! We lovingly restored it to become a beautiful and authentic destination for guests.
The Unique Benefits at this Apartment:
Every evening the sun sets over the vast panoramic views from the windows and terraces of L'Antica Vetreria. The idyllic countryside is always tranquil and inviting. From the pool one can enjoy privacy and the expanding view over farmlands and hillsides filled with olive groves, vines and sunflower fields. But just steps away is the lively piazza with its shops and gourmet restaurants with outdoor terraces. Each evening one can sit in the piazza and watch the village children play, the elders take their evening walk and feel totally welcomed with warmth. We love to live the authentic life of Italy which cannot be done isolated in the countryside. This way we have the views and tranquility of the country, but the daily rhythms of village life. Everything you need is within these historic stone walls!
