Villa Bahá is 4,000 square feet of contemporary Mexican Country-style living space thoughtfully integrated into the pristine rainforest and jungle of Costa Rica. Dramatic white water views of the Pacific Ocean and serene valley vistas are everywhere. Exuberant tropical gardens enhance the views. Each day, Villa Bahá enjoys a beautiful sunrise and even more stunning sunset.

Immediately upon entering the gated private driveway of this 11-acre property, situated 1,000 feet above sea level, you know that you have arrived at a unique destination. The scent of ylang ylang and the sounds of nature welcome you to your home away from home. Bougainvillea, helaconia, and ginger provide tropical color and graceful palms and bamboo sway in the breezes.

Built in 2000 and recently updated inside and out, the main house is entered though a gated, courtyard which features a dramatic Mexican-wall fountain and a colorful butterfly and hummingbird garden. A covered entrance veranda creates a shady spot from which to relax and enjoy this charming, private retreat.

The interior of Villa Bahá is dominated by a dramatic, curved staircase which leads to the upper floors. The principal first floor rooms flow in an open, contemporary manner and are decorated with an eclectic mix of classic, Mexican and antique furnishings enhanced with dramatic lighting. The garden-view living room has comfortable seating for six and is suitable for reading, family games or surfing the internet (bring your laptop or borrow ours). An entertainment armoire contains a TV with satellite Sky TV and DVD/CD/MP3 player. Beyond the living room, the kitchen and dining room share the captivating view of the Pacific Ocean. The large, well-considered kitchen is playfully decorated with colorful, hand-painted Mexican talavera tiles on the countertops and cooking island. The kitchen is equipped with all that you might require to prepare and serve anything from salsa and chips to a full holiday meal. The dining room features a soaring, 20-foot beamed ceiling and is linked to the outdoors by French doors.

The outdoor spaces are the true focal points of daily life at Villa Bahá. From the rear veranda, near the kidney-shaped swimming pool, you can enjoy the expansive Pacific Ocean view from comfortable pool chaises and lounge chairs. Colorful hammocks are provided for afternoon reading or siestas under a vine-covered pergola. While it is possible to spend the entire day watching the peaceful and inspiring parade of wildlife from this veranda, around the corner, just beyond the kitchen garden, is an equally delightful outdoor space. On the kitchen veranda and adjacent stone patio, guests can dine while listening to the hypnotic sounds of the nearby cascading, hand-carved Mexican fountain and its tropical garden backdrop.

The very private and serene master suite furnished with a king size bed is on the first floor and enjoys both ocean and garden views. A screened door allows nighttime breezes in and also gives private access to the rear veranda and pool area, perfect for late night swims under star-filled skies. The amazing, Spanish-style master bathroom features his and hers talavera sinks and an inviting sunken soaking tub and shower with floor-to-ceiling windows and garden views.

The entire second floor can serve as an additional master suite for a second couple. The bedroom contains a queen size bed, writing desk, and built-in closets. French doors lead to a private veranda and terrace with views of the surrounding mountain ridges and valleys. Within the sounds of both of Villa Bahá’s Mexican fountains, rocking chairs and potted plants make this area a charming, romantic spot for quiet morning coffee or evening drinks. The full bathroom features more Mexican tile and a rainforest mural painted by a local artist. The second floor media room has comfortable lounge seating for viewing TV and movies (with Satellite SkyTV and DVD/VCR). For larger groups, this room can be arranged as a third bedroom with either two twin beds, or, with a quick furniture shift, a queen size, bed height Aerobed if that is preferred. Sliding doors provide access to another rooftop terrace with oceans views, ideal for private sunning. Stairs from this terrace lead to the upper roof terrace, for a 360 degree, bird's-eye view of this glorious property and its surroundings.

Villa Baha’s gardens have been designed to attract and support a large variety of wildlife. Colorful toucans are among the daily avian visitors to our hillside terrace garden and the nearby fruit orchard. Villa Bahá is located in the safe and friendly, residential area of Lagunas de Barú, just outside of Dominical. Houses dot the finger ridges of Lagunas, giving a sense of community while still maintaining total privacy. Our bi-lingual property manager is very close by, ready to greet you and assist you as necessary during your stay.

Villa Bahá and its tranquil interrelationship with the ocean and rainforest can be the focal point of your visit with short trips to Dominical and surrounding towns for supplies, or it can serve as your base of operations for an active, adventure-filled exploration of the South Pacific coast of Costa Rica. The choice is yours. Please visit our website for more information about Villa Bahá and begin planning your adventure in Costa Rica today.

    • I don't know where to start. We six friends met up in Costa Rica for the winter holiday and made our way down to Villa Baha. Our time at Villa Baha was without a doubt our favorite part of the trip. The photos online only give a small snapshot of the beauty and thought that went into the evolution of this property. We rent houses from VRBO every year, and this is by far our favorite. It is gorgeously decorated, beautifully landscaped, and just remote enough to feel "away from it all." From the moment you approach the property, you can feel the time and emotion that went into making this such a special place. The owner Amy went out of her way to help navigate our anticipation leading up to our stay. We thank you for your help and information. The property manager Cynthia is quite simply a lovely person. She was helpful, thoughtful, knowledgeable and truly interesting. We had THREE flat tires on our trip and she went out of her way to help us time and time again. Thank you Cynthia. We'll never forget you! Dinners cooked with fresh herbs and fruits from the garden, watching the sun set over the Pacific from the pool or hammock, combing nearby beaches, hiking to waterfalls, deep sea fishing, snorkeling…just some of the many things we enjoyed during our stay. If you are even considering Villa Baha for your vacation, look no further. Pura Vida! -Jason, Lori, Jen, Tad, Heather and Jen

    • We LOVE Villa Baha! You never know what to expect when booking lodging online - and although we had a good idea that it would be LOVELY - any expectations that we could have had were surpassed. It is BEAUTIFUL, clean, well-appointed, festive! and has everything you could possibly need or even think to have. We were traveling with our 4 month old baby and another couple and their 3 month old baby and the layout was perfect for our "particular" situation. We had our zone downstairs and they had theirs upstairs- and so the babies slept quietly in our rooms which are in the same house, but it feels like you are separate - in a GOOD way. Even the outdoor areas can be communal or separate. We were really impressed with the detail and thought that they have put into the Villa. Amy was HUGELY helpful and very attentive... Cynthia and the staff were great. It felt like we were alone, but we knew there was a support circuit behind the scenes... just GREAT! Highly recommended. Thanks again Amy!

    • Our family gives Villa Baha 4 THUMBS UP!!!! I felt like I was living in three places at once: in the jungle, at the ocean, and on top of the world from the constant of an elegant home base. Hard to choose "best parts" but I'd choose: 1. Floating in the swimming pool and gazing past the forested mountains to the ocean's shoreline in the distance. 2. Falling asleep listening to the sounds of nature...esp. the rain, cicadas, and frogs 3. Waking up to the fresh morning air, sounds of the birds and the sheer magic of being able to do it all again. If it seems too good to be true, I know. It "seemed" that way even while we were there. Our memories have the quality of dreams. Thanks Amy, Cynthia, the housekeeper, and to the gardener, too, who keeps the grounds immaculate!

    • 3/15/08 Our family had an absolutely wonderful time for our week at Villa Baha. We have rented homes throughout the Caribbean and Hawaii and this is by far the nicest and best equiped home we have ever rented. The photos on the web site are great and when you get to the house you will be even more impressed! It's a spectactular place and Dominical is a charming and delightful town. You cannot go wrong with this rental and if you want a "dream" Costa Rican trip go to Villa Baha! The Nanfelt's- Scott, Grit Kai & Svenja

    • We had an amazing 2 week stay at Villa Baha. The wildlife was so diverse, and the weather was great too! (Expect showers almost every afternoon). Some of the activities we enjoyed most were: playing at the Playa Belina, Horseback riding to Nuayaca Falls, Zip Line Adventure at Hacienda Baru, and eating GREAT FOOD at the resurants in Dominical. If you're looking for an authentic Costa Rican trip to remember, stay at Villa Baha!!

    • My wife and I spent a spectacular week at Villa Baha. Villa Baha is a gorgeous house with beautiful grounds and views. We like a mix of adventure, activity and relaxation in our vacations and the Dominical area was an ideal location. We started everyday the same way. We’d spend an hour or so lounging on the patio eating breakfast and drinking coffee, watching the birds and other wildlife. Then, we’d either head out for our adventure or just spend the day at Villa Baha. During the week, we snorkeled at Cano Island, toured the Mangrove swamps, did the zip lines at Hacienda Baru, went horseback riding to Nauyaca Falls and went to the reptile zoo. The days we stayed at Villa Baha, we swam in the pool, played ping pong, snoozed in the hammocks, read on the patio and occasionally got to watch the neighborhood coati as it strolled through the yard. After most vacations, we’re usually ready to go home but not this time…it was really hard to leave!

    • Our family of four thoroughly enjoyed our recent stay at Villa Baha. We felt at home instantly. My husband and I loved the master suite and our children enjoyed the ping pong table and the TVs. Best of all was the swimming pool and the outdoor dining area. We could have stayed forever. Dominical itself was a lot of fun and we enjoyed several beaches and tours. We highly recommend Villa Baha and hope that we can return one day.

    • Villa Baha is a nice house built for personal use and not for the rental market. Beautifully decorated and well equipped. Set in secluded surroundings with a great view of the Pacific coast and ocean. We all enjoyed our stay including the kids (good selection of beaches with and without waves). Strongly recommend going to Dominical and staying at villa Baha, for those interested in a quiet vacation off the over-beaten track.
