Villa Bahá is 4,000 square feet of contemporary Mexican Country-style living space thoughtfully integrated into the rugged jungle of Costa Rica. Exuberant tropical gardens enhance the dramatic white water views of the Pacific Ocean and the serene valley vistas.

Immediately upon entering the gated driveway of this 11-acre compound, situated 1,000 feet above sea level, you know that you have arrived at an exceptional destination. The scent of ylang ylang and the sounds of nature welcome you to your home away from home. Bougainvillea, helaconia, and ginger provide tropical color and graceful palms and bamboo sway in the breezes.

Built in 2001 and recently updated inside and out, the main house at Villa Bahá is entered though a colorful butterfly and hummingbird garden featuring a Mexican-wall fountain. The interior is dominated by a dramatic, curved staircase which leads to the upper floors. The first floor rooms flow in an open, airy manner and are decorated with an eclectic mix of classic, Mexican and antique furnishings enhanced with dramatic lighting and architectural details. The living room comfortably seats six and is suitable for reading, family games or surfing the internet (bring your laptop or borrow ours). An entertainment armoire contains a TV with satellite Sky TV and DVD/CD/MP3 player. Beyond the living room, the kitchen and dining room share the captivating view of the Pacific Ocean. The large, cook-friendly kitchen is playfully decorated with colorful, hand-painted Mexican talavera tiles on the countertops and cooking island and equipped with all that you might require to prepare and serve anything from salsa and chips to a full holiday meal. The dining room features a soaring, 20-foot beamed ceiling and French doors which open to the ocean view veranda beyond.

The lushly landscaped outdoor spaces are the true focal points of daily life at Villa Bahá. The swimming pool features both a 40-foot swim lane for exercise and graceful, wide steps for fun and relaxation. Swimmers will appreciate the gentle, eco-friendly salt chlorination system. While it is possible to spend the entire day enjoying the expansive Pacific Ocean view and watching the peaceful and inspiring parade of wildlife from the pool area in its comfortable chaises and lounge chairs, around the corner, is an equally delightful outdoor space. On the kitchen veranda and its adjacent stone patio, guests can dine while listening to the hypnotic sounds of the nearby cascading, hand-carved Mexican fountain and enjoy its peaceful tropical garden backdrop. A colorful mural painted by a local artist enlivens this space, which is also used for ping pong and grilling.

The private and serene, ocean and garden view master suite, furnished with a king size bed, is also situated on the first floor. A screened door allows nighttime breezes in and also gives private access to the rear veranda and pool area, perfect for late night swims under star-filled skies. The Spanish-style master bathroom features his and hers talavera sinks and an inviting sunken soaking tub and shower with floor-to-ceiling windows and garden views.

The entire second floor easily serves as an additional master suite for a second couple. The bedroom contains a queen size bed, writing desk, and built-in closets. French doors lead to a private veranda and terrace with views of the surrounding mountain ridges and valleys. Within the sounds of both of Villa Bahá’s Mexican fountains, rocking chairs and potted plants make this area a charming, romantic spot for quiet morning coffee or evening drinks. The full bathroom features more Mexican tile and a rainforest mural. The second floor media room has comfortable lounge seating for viewing TV and movies (with Satellite SkyTV and DVD/VCR). Sliding doors provide access to another rooftop terrace with oceans views, ideal for private sunning. Stairs from this terrace lead to the upper roof terrace, for a 360 degree, bird's-eye view of this glorious property and its surroundings.

For groups requiring more than two bedrooms, Villa Bahá can be expanded to suit your needs. For families with small children or teens, the media room in the main house can be arranged as a third bedroom with two twin beds or a queen size Aerobed. For larger groups, the separate casita at Villa Bahá is also available, adding a fourth bedroom and an additional bathroom to Villa Bahá’s accommodations. The casita features soaring wooden ceilings, satillo tile floors and talavera countertops and its own covered veranda and tropical gardens. The interior includes a kitchen/living room, bedroom and bathroom can sleep 2-4 people. The casita is never rented separately when the main house is rented, so renters of Villa Bahá, no matter how large or small the party, will always have the entire property to themselves.

Villa Baha’s gardens have been designed to attract and support a large variety of wildlife. Colorful toucans and blue morpho butterflies are among our daily visitors. Dozens of species of birds, white-faced monkeys, pizotes, iguanas and fascinating insects are regulars. Villa Bahá is located in the safe and friendly, residential area of Lagunas de Barú, just outside of Dominical. Houses dot the finger ridges of Lagunas, providing a sense of community while still maintaining total privacy. Our bi-lingual property manager is very close by, ready to greet you and assist you as necessary during your stay.

Villa Bahá and its tranquil interrelationship with the ocean and rainforest can be the focal point of your visit with short trips to Dominical and surrounding towns for supplies, or it can serve as your base of operations for an active, adventure-filled exploration of the South Pacific coast of Costa Rica. The choice is yours. Please visit our website for more information about Villa Bahá and begin planning your adventure in Costa Rica today.

Villa Baha - At Home in Paradise

Guest: djs01 (Novi, MI)
Date of Stay: 04/01/07 Review Submitted: 10/15/07

My wife and I spent a spectacular week at Villa Baha. Villa Baha is a gorgeous house with beautiful grounds and views. We like a mix of adventure, activity and relaxation in our vacations and the Dominical area was an ideal location. We started everyday the same way. We’d spend an hour or so lounging on the patio eating breakfast and drinking coffee, watching the birds and other wildlife. Then, we’d either head out for our adventure or just spend the day at Villa Baha. During the week, we snorkeled at Cano Island, toured the Mangrove swamps, did the zip lines at Hacienda Baru, went horseback riding to Nauyaca Falls and went to the reptile zoo. The days we stayed at Villa Baha, we swam in the pool, played ping pong, snoozed in the hammocks, read on the patio and occasionally got to watch the neighborhood coati as it strolled through the yard. After most vacations, we’re usually ready to go home but not this time…it was really hard to leave!

Paradise

Date of Stay: 06/11/11 Review Submitted: 06/21/11

We loved our Costa Rican home, it truly is paradise. This was a family vacation of 8 people from all over the USA gathering together to explore a new country and just 'chill out' as a family. The layout of this house really allows everyone to have privacy and then to gather together. The pool overlooks the mountains and the Pacific Ocean and was something we were all drawn to throughout the day. This place is even more spectacular than the pictures. We had great times going to all the surrounding places and exploring but the best time was coming back home and hanging out watching the toucans, many different types of birds, hummingbirds and frogs and the incredible views. We all left each other at the airport really feeling like this was the perfect family vacation and staying at Villa Baha was a big part of this.

In a word...Superb!

Just back from a fabulous week in CR, many visits before but this was the first with our tribe of 20-something kids. Having seen Amy's pics, we knew Villa Baha would be great but our expectations were exceeded in every way. Beautiful gardens and decor, gourmet kitchen, immaculate facilities, comfy bedrooms and casita, wifi, terrific selection of books. Every detail has been considered, truly a home away from home. Amy also arranged groceries for our arrival, made for a very relaxing and fully-stocked first evening. Spectacular location and vantage point, our favorite mix of mountains, jungle and the ocean in the distance, close to Dominical and points south on the Costanera Sur. Zip-lining at Hacienda Baru, swimming at Playa Ventanas and lunch or dinner at Exotica. Bravo Amy, what an oasis you have created...we can't wait to return!

Owner response:We are so happy to hear that your family had a great vacation at Villa Baha. We look forward to seeing you again soon!

Amazing Adventures!

Date of Stay: 12/27/10 Review Submitted: 01/12/11

Thank you Amy and Villa Baha! Our recent holiday was fantastic! Start your days with singing birds, frolicking monkeys and colorful butterflies and end them with stunning pink skies. Our group of 10 had the most amazing time, delicious meals and wonderful adventures. Ages ranged from 50-2 and everybody was beyond happy! Amy provided great suggestions for tours and activities, as well as helpful directions to and from the house. The house is beautiful, comfortable and has everything you need to relax, make gourmet meals, play games, read, swim, hike, learn about Costa Rica, use the internet etc... It's a magical place! Thanks for sharing, and making it feel effortless.

A truly wonderful vacation home!

Date of Stay: 03/17/10 Review Submitted: 03/29/10

My family (husband, mother-in-law, 3 children under the age of 11) and I recently stayed at Villa Baha for four nights during our spring break. This house is truly amazing! The location is wonderful, the house is immaculate and the grounds are unbelievable. It is very well-maintained and provided everything we needed for a wonderful vacation. The boys loved swimming in the pool every afternoon and we enjoyed cooking in the kitchen. We could eat in the outside dining room and watch the wildlife and the changing views during sunsets. This was the most beautiful house we have ever rented. I would recommend this house to everyone. An added bonus when you rent this house is the incredible knowledge that the owner (Amy) brings to your vacation. She gives incredible tips and really makes your stay hassle free. She is better than any travel agent!

Owner response:Thank you for staying at Villa Baha. Pura Vida!

I don't know where to start. We six friends met up in Costa Rica for the winter holiday and made our way down to Villa Baha. Our time at Villa Baha was without a doubt our favorite part of the trip. The photos online only give a small snapshot of the beauty and thought that went into the evolution of this property. We rent houses from VRBO every year, and this is by far our favorite. It is gorgeously decorated, beautifully landscaped, and just remote enough to feel "away from it all." From the moment you approach the property, you can feel the time and emotion that went into making this such a special place. The owner Amy went out of her way to help navigate our anticipation leading up to our stay. We thank you for your help and information. The property manager Cynthia is quite simply a lovely person. She was helpful, thoughtful, knowledgeable and truly interesting. We had THREE flat tires on our trip and she went out of her way to help us time and time again. Thank you Cynthia. We'll never forget you! Dinners cooked with fresh herbs and fruits from the garden, watching the sun set over the Pacific from the pool or hammock, combing nearby beaches, hiking to waterfalls, deep sea fishing, snorkeling…just some of the many things we enjoyed during our stay. If you are even considering Villa Baha for your vacation, look no further.Pura Vida!-Jason, Lori, Jen, Tad, Heather and Jen

We LOVE Villa Baha! You never know what to expect when booking lodging online - and although we had a good idea that it would be LOVELY - any expectations that we could have had were surpassed. It is BEAUTIFUL, clean, well-appointed, festive! and has everything you could possibly need or even think to have. We were traveling with our 4 month old baby and another couple and their 3 month old baby and the layout was perfect for our "particular" situation. We had our zone downstairs and they had theirs upstairs- and so the babies slept quietly in our rooms which are in the same house, but it feels like you are separate - in a GOOD way. Even the outdoor areas can be communal or separate. We were really impressed with the detail and thought that they have put into the Villa. Amy was HUGELY helpful and very attentive... Cynthia and the staff were great. It felt like we were alone, but we knew there was a support circuit behind the scenes... just GREAT! Highly recommended. Thanks again Amy!

Our family gives Villa Baha 4 THUMBS UP!!!! I felt like I was living in three places at once: in the jungle, at the ocean, and on top of the world from the constant of an elegant home base. Hard to choose "best parts" but I'd choose: 1. Floating in the swimming pool and gazing past the forested mountains to the ocean's shoreline in the distance. 2. Falling asleep listening to the sounds of nature...esp. the rain, cicadas, and frogs 3. Waking up to the fresh morning air, sounds of the birds and the sheer magic of being able to do it all again. If it seems too good to be true, I know. It "seemed" that way even while we were there. Our memories have the quality of dreams. Thanks Amy, Cynthia, the housekeeper, and to the gardener, too, who keeps the grounds immaculate!

3/15/08 Our family had an absolutely wonderful time for our week at Villa Baha. We have rented homes throughout the Caribbean and Hawaii and this is by far the nicest and best equiped home we have ever rented. The photos on the web site are great and when you get to the house you will be even more impressed! It's a spectactular place and Dominical is a charming and delightful town. You cannot go wrong with this rental and if you want a "dream" Costa Rican trip go to Villa Baha! The Nanfelt's- Scott, Grit Kai & Svenja
