We liked the cabin however the towels and cubboards were coverd with mouse droppings. Also the gas grill ran out of gas in the middle of cooking dinner. The area was great and mountain views were breathtaking. We saw lots of wildlife. Also the drive to tech was longer than advertised [we tried 3 different routes].

This cabin get-a-way is an absolute dream. Our family stayed here for the weekend to celebrate my husband's 50th birthday, because he has always wansted to own a property on Craig Creek. This was a dream weekend for us . Our girls loved wading the creek, as did we, and trail-hiking, laying in the hammock and relaxing in the homey, clean and fully-equipped cottage. This cottage has it all! Nestled in the Craig Creek area of Virginia, with secnic vistas of the mountains in the backdrop and the creek right at the back door, this location is the ideal spot for getting away and truly escaping your every-day life, if you desire, although all the comforts of home are still amply provided in this darling mountain cabin. There is an inviting front porch with a foozeball table and charming "palm-tree" lamps for extending your porch enjoyment into "firefly" hour time, as well as several comfortable reclining chairs for relaxing too. Inside, it gets better! My 13 y/o was delighted to be able to watch some of her favorite shows(particularly since we don't have cable t.v.), and there were fresh linens on the beds, towels in the bathrooms to use and a washer and dryer. Cooking utensils and such were all provided as well, and all of the modern kitchen conviniences so that making a meal for your family is very do-able. The open kitchen and living room area is very family-friendly. There were great family movie selections and games to play. The decor inside was absolutely charming and very woodland style right along with the theme of where you are. There was a homey sense of wilderness that continued for you in the indoors. We wanted to spend more time on the creek than we did, but several hours a day was about as much as anyone could ask for. We took the canoe out for a spin several times, and our 8 m/o son was thrilled. Since the owner provided a johnny-jump-up for our son, we found that we needed to buy him one as soon as we got home for ourselves ( I had given away ours)! Our ability to spend time to get away here was limited, but we enjoyed every minute of it. We were able to literally leave a downtown Roanoke birthday dinner and with just clothes and port-a-crib packed, hit the road and enjoy our stay here. Our 8 y/o cried when we had to leave! It was great to see our girls up at almost dawn to play on the creek! Thank you so much for one of the best weekends we have everr had. Nora Bryant and family

Where do I start? From the moment we drove up we had a great time. We were looking for a quiet place to relax for the weekend and we were not disappointed. We found the cabin to be very cozy, neatly decorated and clean. We spent several days fishing, canoeing, relaxing by the firepit and laying in the hammock. We had all the comforts of home. On a personal note, we had the opportunity to spend some quality time with our two teenage children without the interruptions of "city life". Our evenings by the firepit were priceless. Thanks Mike and Rebecca for allowing us to spend some time at your beautiful cabin. There was one bad thing that we must write about......... LEAVING!. We didn't want to leave. We will be back as soon as time allows. If you get a chance to visit Rebecca's cabin you wont be disappointed.
Owner response:THANK YOU FOR TAKING THE TIME TO REVIEW OUR COTTAGE, YOU ARE WELCOME BACK ANY TIME. SINCERELY REBECCA

What a fantastic escape. We have been in the process of moving back to the USA from Portugal, and needed a family getaway. Becky's place was perfect. Not only was the Cottage comfortable with everything you could possible need, but the surroundings were amazing. We filled everyday with fly fishing, hiking, floating down the river, and eating Smores. We couldn't have imagined anything better!

Thanks so much for allowing us to spend our vacation at your cottage. We had a wonderful time. We went with anticipation of not much to do besides relax by the water but we stayed really busy. We found lots of hiking trails, walking trails, a fishing pond, a beautiful waterfall, The Swinging Bridge Restaurant was great. We had so much fun with the canoe and tubes. The kids had a great time just searching for minnows and crayfish! The cottage is beautiful and was very clean and comfortable. Next time I won't pack as much because the cottage was very well equipped! We have already had friends looking at our pictures and asking about your place. Thanks again so much. We made some wonderful family memories!

We had a family reunion in this area and this cottage was an excellent place for us to stay (other family stayed nearby). The creek is scenic and safe for tubing, canoeing, and fishing. The full length porch (on the road side) is a great feature--cool and shaded all day with a lovely view of the mountains. You might try Swinging Bridge Restaurant in Paint Bank, VA. Good food and there's a general store, gift shop, and a pond where you can feed some BIG rainbow trout. We're still curious about meals at The Home Place on Rt 311 east of New Castle.
Owner response:Thank you Bill for taking the time to review my cottage. I am so glad you and your family had a good time and enjoyed your stay. I appreciate the way you left the cottage at departure. Its guest's like you that make my job alot easier when I have to get them ready for another vacationer. Sincerely Rebecca

We had a great stay, relaxing in peace and quiet in this very clean and well equiped cottage. Being right on the creek was the best.We brought our dog and it was great. Rafting a little fishing, sitting by the water, Awesome. Look foreward to revisiting this property in the future.

What a great location! The cabin is right on the creek (which was the perfect depth--deep enough to cool off in, but not too deep that we had to worry), close to hiking and 10 minutes from stores for last minute items, but still remote enough to feel like we were getting away from it all. We hiked Dragon's Tooth on the Appalachian Trail, we recommend it to anyone styaing in the area-what a great 1/2 day adventure. The cabin itself was well stocked with any ammenity we could imagine needing and more. The inside was very comfortable--we just lounged around part of our stay and had every evening meal in the screened porch room. The beds were extremely comfy too--we left extremely well rested. The fenced in deck was a great plus--the mornings and evenings were beautiful and we would just hang out enjoying the scenery and breeze. I'm sure we'll be back! Thank you!

David and I decided to spend Christmas in the mountains with our black Lab Maggie. Wthe stayed from the 24 of December until the 28th. Suffice it to say, we didn't even get out of our pajamas on Christmas day and chose to lounge by the fire and look out at the beautiful river and watch the birds, drink champagne and nibble on the goodies we brought with us. The cabin was so sweetly decorated for the season and we could want for nothing. We love to cook for ouselves and found the kitchen very well equipped and functional. Maggie loved going outside to the adjacent property and romping in the snow and sticking her nose in every single footprint left by other animals! We are sure to come back to this incredible, beautiful haven! Thank you Becky and Mike

We had a great time at the cottage. The owner provided everything needed except food and clothing. Most of our time was spent outside enjoying the creek, firepit, and relaxing. I spent many Saturdays fishing on Craigs Creek when I lived in Roanoke and very much enjoyed sharing this experience with my friends from the beach. They were amazed by the beauty of the mountians and the creek. I think we took about 200 pictures to remember this trip. Saturday morning we drove to Paint Bank and ate breakfast at the Swinging Bridge Restaurant and visited the State Trout Hatchery. Thank you for providing us with such a great vacation. Looking forward to a return trip.

BOTH OF OUR DOGS ENJOYED THE WALKS UP AND DOWN THE ROAD. ALL FOUR OF US ENJOYED WATCHING THE SQUIRRELS, CHIPMUNKS, MORNING DOVES, CARDINALS, GOLDENFINCHES, NUTHATCHES, AND TITMICE AT THE FEEDERS. ONE DAY ART HAD TO RESCUE THE CHIPMUNK WHO'D GOTTON INTO THE FEEDER AND EATEN THE SEED DOWN SO HE COULDN'T GET OUT. Great place! The front porch was the true"icing on the cake". The view from the family room was wonderful. The creek, the birds and squirrrels were entertaining the entire week! Sitting by the creek in the evening, with a book, was the way end a perfect day. Little or no traffic so it was like having the mountains to yourself. Lots to do within a short trip into Salem or Roanoke. Close to the caverns and other tourist attractions as well. Extra effort on the part of the host only made the stay better. Very homey, reflecting a "lodge" decor that only added to the relaxing atmosphere. Would love to spend a week in the fall to enjoy the magnificent change of colors that I know is part of the Blue Ridge Mountain experience. Thanks Rebecca!!!!

Wow! What a vacation our family had. My father died earlier this year, and we decided that we needed to be together as a family sharing in a happy time. My mother, 2 sisters, my husband and son and daughter and myself all truly enjoyed ourselves. We picked the perfect place! We had planned to do some sightseeing on Saturday, but enjoyed the creek so much on Friday that we decided to stay right there. The cottage was so homey. We all loved the decor. My favorite spot in the house was the sofa, looking out the big picture window overlooking the creek. Our 11 year son would just love to move there and would probably just live beside the creek. We enjoyed floating down the creek in the tubes and the canoe. Also, one of our enjoyable events was to cook hot dogs and smores over the fire pit. My son thinks we need one at home now. It was probably the most relaxing vacation I think we have had in a long time. We all needed a place to do just that and we found the perfect place. Thanks for sharing your cottage with us!
Owner response:Dear Tammy and Family, I am so glad you enjoyed our cottage. I know your father was there with all of you!!!! God Bless Rebecca

It took just a couple breaths of the fresh mountain air before we relaxed into our 9-night stay at this little slice of Heaven..... The kids had a fun time riding bikes and fishing while the parents read, took naps, rested in the hammock, and relaxed. As other reviewers have said, you will want for nothing at this cabin. Just bring your food and clothes. The owners have taken care of everything. Also, these owners provide EXCELLENT customer service. We had a small problem with the oven - and they responded very quickly to take care of it! Thank you for sharing your cabin!

We had a wonderful time! The cottage was just right! Better than advertized! We did not want for anything, all we needed to bring was food. We had enough space for both privacy and group interaction! Everyone was warm and comfortable! It was so nice and home-like (as opposed to a cold sterile hotel or some places that look like a rental unit ). We watched birds in the comfort of the living room (quite an added a treat!) We did stay on the go... hiking a weather were wonderful! We were at the trailheads in 30 min or less each day! Awesome! Wow!! We just got back from spending a week at your vacation cottage and can't wait to make reservations to go back. The cottage is everything I read about and more. There are so many homey touches that make it feel like a home and not a rental. Everything we needed was already there. We really could have just packed food and clothes. The 4 kids really enjoyed fishing, canoeing, snorkeling and tubing. The adults enjoyed sitting on the amazingly comfortable and beautifully decorated front porch playing cards with the kids in the evening, or drinking our first cup of coffee as the deer fed on the nerby pasture. Thanks for the firewood and all the wonderful memories. Definetly will recommend your cottage to others and will be back.

Our family loved our stay at the cottage. The children spent hours and hours in the creek skipping stones, catching frogs, canoeing and tubing. I really enjoyed relaxing on the front porch watching hummingbirds and sitting around the campfire out back. I can't think of a more peaceful place. "Dear Becky and Mike, Well you were right - the grandchildren loved everything about the cottage & so did we. They had so much fun finding bears and at 5 cents a bear to grandpa's dismay, the older boys (8 1/2 and 10) found over 100! They all loved fishing, catching minnows and tubing. We enjoyed excursions to the Safari Park, Roaring Run waterfalls and the fish hatchery. And of course paddling the canoe was great fun also. its been a good 2 weeks having special time alone with the grandsons. We end on a high note with a weenie roast and s'mores outside by the fire. Appreciate your bringing extra wood Mike and thank-you becky for the tubes, bycicles, and all the extra things you did to make our stay very comfortable in your charming little house. We really appreciated having things like bicycles, tubes, a canoe and toys - this made our stay a very relaxing vacation. Thank You Bob and Barbara"

"Wow - - pretty much sums it up. My husbaand and 12 year old son caught and released around 200 fish. Our 4 year old grandson reeled in about 20 of those. We even have pictures of our 13 month old grandaughter trying to reel some in. Nap Time is usually a battle with our grandson, but i convinced him to lay and watch the birds and squirrels at the feeders! he was asleep in 15 minutes - Our granddaughter had no use for walking before we arrived. Her maximum journey had been 5 steps. Today, to get to the squirrels she went from the step to the window - it was amazing! The memories made here are possible because of the fabulous place you have here. As our son-in-law prepares to ship off to his second tour in iraq - he got a great kid free vacation - while they had a Great Time!" Laura Pugesek

Our Memorial Day week end was magnificent. We brought our three year old granddaughter for her first week end trip. The cabin was more than a cabin, more like a warm friendly home with all the amenities, beautiful views (lots of wildlife) and good fishing in the creek. Beautifully furnished and appointed with everything you need for a great getaway, even down to spices in the kitchen. You might want to bring your own steaks, seafood etc. as the local IGA has a limited selection, but all the staples are available there. No liquor store within 30 miles. We'll surely be back! John, Dianne and Millia Virginia Beach, Virginia
Owner response:Thank You John, Diane and Milli, for a wonderful guest review. It makes me very happy that my guest's enjoy their stay. And also makes all the hard work and special touches I do for my guest's worth while. Come back soon!!! Sincerely Rebecca

HONEYMOONERS!!! "MIke and Becky, Pam and i had an incredible time in your cottage. We loved the big porch in front, we loved the layout and the decorations of the cottage, we loved the gas fireplace, and the den's intense view of craigs creek providing a beautiful background to a forgground view of enough Blue, gray, and yellow birds to make me feel like Sr Fransis of Assissi. At the time of our stay butterflies were constantly swirling throughout, and by the end of our stay, it was warm enough to wade into the creek. Thank you for all you've done for us, especially when you made that trip to us after we locked ourselves out of the cottage. We thank you, and our Jadyn our dog thanks you. never has she felt more like a Hound."

We are a group of hunters that have been going to this area of Virginia for the past 7 years. This was out first stay at Rebecca and Mike's cottage and we had a great time. Comfortable, private (yet great neighbors) and just good down home feeling the entire time we were there. Everything they say they have at their cottage...they got it!! And they stopped by every day..not to check up but just to chat and see if there was anything we needed. We found a new home in VA...with Rebecca and Mike. Terry Hyde We have already given a deposit to go back again next year
Owner response:Wonderful Guest's.... This group of men took very good care of my cottage. I look forward to them comming back in the fall for Deer Hunting Season and Spring Gobbler hunting next year. We were at our cabin doing spring cleanup, and yard maintenance for the weekend. It was nice to meet our guest's at the cottage! Sincerely Rebecca

"The Ulrey Family Thank you so much for the pleasure to stay in your beautiful cottage. We had a great time, the girls had a blast in the river and roasting marshmellows over a fire at night. Jeff caught a dozen Brook Trout in a nearby stream. I just love the peace and quiet - the simplicity. We will defiinately consider coming back another spring break. Thank You again" The Small family

"Rebecca, Thank you so much for letting us spend our christmas vacation in your cozy cottage. it is so nice and peaceful here. We had a wonderful time. Your place is so beautiful, loved all the bears and other decor you have here. This has really been a special Christmas for us to remember. You really made the place feel like home with all the Christmas decorations and the cute Christmas Tree. We spent alot of time by the fireplace, looking out the picture window, watching the birds and spuirrals. We loved the view of the creek and the mountains. It was so nice and peaceful sitting on the porch in the morning, drinking coffee, enjoying the mountain view. Well we didn't get the snow we were hoping for - but we stillenjoyed our stay here. My 7 year old had so much fun playing on the hill out back and walking out by the creek collecting rocks. Our 2 dogs had a blast playing in the creek, running through the water, fetching sticks. We really hate to see the week come to an end, but its been great here. We hope to come back for another visit - maybe during the summer - so we can tube or go canoeing down the creek Thanks again for everythig! The Oakleys"

We could "bearly" belive our eyes when we arrived at the cabin in the woods. The cabin is stuffed with all kinds of bears, deers and other critters that add to the outdoors atmosphere of the cabin. The little creek below is so clear and clean and the fishing is very good. The birds at the many feeders around the cabin are fun to watch. We loved cooking outside on the front porch and having our dinner out there too. The cabin in the woods is very relaxing and we look forward to our visit next October to watch the colors change in the mountains.
Owner response:What great Guest's! They took good care of my cottage, at treated it as if if was their home. I gladly welcome tham back in October 2008, although the lack of rain and drought condition's for the summer and fall did make the creek appear "little" I am glead they still enjoyed their stay. 1 free night 2008 for prompt guest comment. See you in October Anne and Brad Sincerely Rebecca
