This perfect vacation get-away lovingly nicknamed the "Chinchilla house" is conveniently located on the Bull River on Talahi Island, between historic downtown Savannah, (10 minutes away) and Tybee Island (also 10 minutes away). Pulling onto our sandy drive, located on the northeast tip of Talahi Island, with salt marsh on three sides, you get the illusion of being on your own private island. Secluded by atlantic red cedar, sabal palm, bamboo and live oak, our home offers beautiful views, nature, tranquility, privacy and a sense of vastness overlooking the Bull River. Relax from the hustle and bustle of the 21st century and ease into the charm of the early 20th century as we create for you an atmosphere of southern living. Awaken to the morning songs of mockingbirds, boat-tailed grackles, red-winged blackbirds, and the trill of kingfishers scanning the river. Relax from the front porch and watch pelicans, gulls and terns plunge for marine life in the tidal river. Watch and hear the behavior of flocks of white ibis and endangered woodstorks circling and landing over the marsh. Catch glimpses of bottle-nosed dolphins playing and feeding in the river daily. See the massive freight ships navigate the waters of the North Channel of the Savannah River. Ease into the low country life as local crabbers check their traps bi-weekly in the Bull River in front of the house. Conveniently located, there is plenty to offer just minutes from the house. Our home is only a short walk to in-season fresh produce at Davis produce stand just off of Highway 80. For boat enthusiasts the house is located close to several public boat ramps and marinas. Also minutes from the house heading to the coast is the trailhead for the rails-to-trails along marshes of the Savannah River where you can walk, bike or run 6 scenic miles. Further down the road toward Tybee Island is historic Civil War era Fort Pulaski National Monument. Take in the ruins of the fort, have a family picnic, or cast your fishing lines and nets from the bridge that spans the south channel of the Savannah River. If you head west from the house, towards historic downtown Savannah, we are only a few minutes from Oatland Island Education Center, where you can walk the hiking trails that wind through woodland and marsh, leading to exhibits of live animals native to the area. If gambling is your thing, we are minutes from a casino yacht, that will take you 12 miles offshore to international waters for a lively night activity. This rustic turn of the century house and beautiful property has been in our family for over 50 years. We come to the house between each guest visit to insure that it is clean and well maintained. When we have family and friends visit Savannah, they stay here too. Please treat our home, our neighbors and our property with kindness. |
