from the warm hickory floors to the comfortable king bed, we loved this gem in Durango! the area is quiet and inviting, just a few minutes away from downtown and easily accessible. This apartment was perfect for our family of 3--clean, comfortable, private, quiet, and very well located. We had everything we needed, and appreciated the bath with a tub (for our 5 year old), the off street parking, and proximity to the grocery store. We also really enjoyed the easy access to the wonderful Animus River trail--a paved trail along the river. We were able to bike to just about everywhere we wanted to visit using the trail, including the Recreation Center (great pool for kids), the Discovery Museum (a must for families), the fun and free Train Museum downtown, and the well equipped Santa Rita park. Our son enjoyed exploring the river's edge a few blocks away and was thrilled to see the old steam train chugging by on the track across the river each morning. The only thing we wished for was a larger sitting space in the living room area--perhaps a loveseat or additional chair. Otherwise, the place was just right for us. We definitely recommend this property.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

This place worked perfectly for our vacation. We went to ski, but did not want to stay on the mountain since we knew we would want to go out at night. The location was ideal. It was a very short drive into downtown and super close to a grocery store to grab the food we needed. It was also a very easy drive up the mountain every day. Daniel was great to work with and responded quickly to any questions. The room was just as advertised and everything was beautiful. I would definitely stay again and would recommend this place to my friends and family.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

This location is not a cottage, it is a loft, located upstairs over a garage. The listing description was absolutely accurate. The neighborhood is a bit run down, but the property is excellent! Private drive, very quiet, far away from the noise and traffic of downtown Durango. Immaculately clean, well-maintained property. The space is perfect for a couple. The bed is very comfortable, with upscale bedding. There is a window unit air conditioner that isn't shown in the photo. It was too loud and noisy. Fortunately, the weather was cool enough that we didn't need to use it. Pretty park located next to the Animas River. We saw 8 deer wandering the neighborhood one morning. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. I would defintely stay here again.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Overall, a comfortable and convenient place to stay. Easy access to the river, swings/parks and train viewing for morning walks with my toddler. Quiet and friendly location within the neighborhood. We say deer everyday in the neighborhood. Daniel pleasantly assisted in resolving a fipped breaker i endured while running too many appliances. Basic necessities were provided in the kitchen; however, the toaster did not appear as it had ever been cleaned and some utensils were broken (so i ended up purchasing and donating). The only major dissapointment i had was that the "A/C" mentioned in description was a window unit (which is also left out of the pictures). Although limited by placement options, it was annoyingly loud as it was placed in the window right next to the bed. This obviously wouldn't be an issue during the winter months, but may impact my decision to stay again during durango's hot season. FYI: Not sure who is in charge of setting trash cans out on trash day...but they were full when i arrived and i could hardly place trash in them. I ended up having to take my trash bags to my grandparents house to dispose of them.Owner response: I'll let cleaning know about the toaster. We've been considering getting a portable air conditioner that would be away from the bed and vented through the wall. That would solve the issues mentioned. Hopefully we'll get to it this fall. The trash goes out every Tues. Unfortunately there are occurrences when new guest arrival overlaps with guest departures prior to Tues. which allows a weeks accumulation. This is an inconvenience that we handle as best we can given varying arrival/departures schedules. Thanks for your comments.

My wife and I spent a week at the cottage on our first trip to Durango. Although it is small, it was very comfortable and clean. Even though it was a little further from downtown than we were expecting, it did not distract from our stay. Everything was just as advertized and we would recommend. Had a great time.Owner response: The studio is about 1 1/4 miles North of the main downtown area along the Animas river walking trail crossing the river twice over 2 beautiful foot bridges. Driving it takes less than 5 minutes

"Lovely little studio on the second floor above a garage. Super quiet family neighborhood very close to the river walk. The studio had so many windows and so much light... views of the mountains and the sunsets. The king size bed was a dream! The one issue was the full-size blow up mattress. I would not say the studio sleeps four, as the mattress was pretty small, and there was barely enough floor-space to put it on. We were lucky that our 6 foot tall teenager didn't come with us, and we only had our 9 year old. The blow-up was just fine for her. The bathroom was very dark and could use some more light, but other than that, we had a great stay. Daniel was super easy to deal with and was always responsive and polite. We'd definitely stay there again, but would prefer to stay there without children, as it's very romantic." - Anne G., Albuquerque, NM, 05/13/2012 ______________________________ Owner Comment: The blow mattress is not intended for adults and normally for children under 14. We'll be looking at installing higher wattage bulbs in the bathroom. Thanks.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Durango studio. The studio had everything we needed and was quite cozy. Upon arriving in Durango, we parked our car at the studio and walked wherever we wanted to go. It is very close to the river walk as well as to the Country Market. We also rode the free trolly from town back to the studio one day when we were tired of walking! We highly recommend the studio and hope to go back this fall. Daniel was also a pleasure to deal with on our rental. Janet B., Douglas, AZ, 05/11/2012Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We stayed here for 3 nights and it was perfect! Much better than staying in a hotel, location is a little father out of town than we wanted but turned out to be just fine. Would stay here again!Recommended for: Age 55+, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: The studio is near 30th street. The middle of downtown is about 10th street, so it's about 20 blocks North of the main downtown area. A very short drive or a medium walk, normally 20-30 minutes.

About the owner: Here we are somewhere in Norway. We travel a lot as Heather is a guest entertainer on Princess Cruise Lines. We do love coming back home to Durango at times and spending time in our home.
Why the Owner Chose Private Homes:
We loved Durango in the summer and winter and this property gives a place to relax when we are not traveling.
The Unique Benefits at this Studio:
In the fall the fruit trees produce pears, cherries and plums. The Animas valley hiking trail is 1/4 mile North of the house. The Animas river hiking trail is 1/4 mile East. Views in the area are stunning and the Durango Silverton train is a once in a lifetime experience. White water rafting, fishing, skiing and many other activities make this a very special unique area.
