The Perfect Log Cabin for Your Mountain Vacation Getaway!!!

Year Purchased: 2005

Why the Owner Chose Blairsville

My father had always dreamt of having a log cabin in the mountains and back in 1994 he bought the lot and eventually built the house years later. It has been our vacation home for years, and we love this location for its lush forest and abundant wildlife! We love being so close to so many beautiful waterfalls and such vast scenery! We are so nestled in the forest, that there is no doubt you are on vacation when you are here!!! This home is perfect to disconnect from the hustle and bustle of the outside world and modern technology and be submerged in nature...and just forget it all!!!

The Unique Benefits at this Cabin

Being a native Floridian, I am so impressed with the fact that the North Georgia Mountains is the closest place we can visit with the most impressive geological changes! You go from flat land and no scenery to mountains and lush green trees soaring in the sky!! I love the fact that there are deer on the property and we can pick blueberries off the bushes when in season! When we wake up in the morning and open our eyes, we become aware of the absolute serenity of being 1,200 feet above sea level, away from people and close to the birds, crickets, and fireflies! It's so incredibly quiet and peaceful and we love reconnecting with nature! We love hiking to the numerous waterfalls in the area and seeing the views!

A Few Difficulties.....

Guest: Rick & Katy (Tampa, FL)
Date of Stay: 11/20/10 Review Submitted: 12/12/10

The cabin is nice and the bear motif is cute. Some of the problems we encountered were that the dishes/pots/pans were all dirty and greasy upon arrival. The closets were jammed full of the owners personal items leaving little room for our hanging clothes. One upstairs bedroom had no dresser for my daughters things and neither had a rod for hanging clothes in the closets. There is no tub in the masterbath, although, the shower is quite large with two sprayheads which is nice. The masterbath door is a folding closet door which leaves a little to be desired for privacy. There are no window coverings in the cabin which makes you feel a little exposed and the master bedroom window is right on the porch so I woke up one morning with my daughters friend sitting on the porch looking into the bedroom! Great location and more secluded than previous cabins we have rented in Blairsville which was great. My biggest concern though was the electrical system in the house. It appears the wiring may have been done by the homeowner as switches were improperly located and it was difficult to initially figure out how to turn some on.......plus an inordinate number of bulbs were burned out and needed to be replaced. The biggest concern though were the light fixtures that were hanging by bare wires. Also, the "gourmet kitchen" does have a center island with stove, however, there is no overhead vent as is required so when we cooked bacon for breakfast the living room was a little smoky. We were not provided with a key to the basement where the washer and dryer are located.....fortunately, we found a key in the bottom of one of the kitchen drawers and were able to do some laundry as we were only provided with one towel each for the week. Always an adventure when heading out to the cabin.......

Owner response:Thank you for this review. It was so helpful! I just recently switched to a different property manager, and all of the issues mentioned in this review have been addressed. Thanks for your input! The reason you were not provided with a key to basement and access to washer/dryer is because it is off limits to the renters as the basement is not "finished" and meant only for the cleaning crew to use. I will have them put 2 towels out per person from now on. The closet issues have been resolved as well. I will label the light switches for ease of use. The 2 burnt out light bulbs have been replaced. And there are window coverings in the master bedroom now. The upstairs drapes will be in soon!

Our stay

We just got back from 5 beautiful days at your cabin. I was so surprised at how cool the nights were. Even though it was suppose to be HOT. The cabin is so nice and comfortable. The porch and swing was where I stayed a lot. Just the view and the peace and quiet was so refreshing. There was even a Black Bear spotted just up the road from the cabin. We saw a deer the first night we were there. Vogel State Park is close by. Thanks so much for a wonderful stay. Can't wait til next time
