Location: Dillon Beach, San Francisco Bay Area, California, USA (One hour north of San Francisco)
Accommodations: House, 4 Bedrooms + No additional sleeping rooms avail, 1.5 Baths (Sleeps 8)
Keywords: Cozy and roomy cottage
Dillon Beach is one of the last accessible bastions of peace and tranquility that you'll find anywhere on the California Coast. This remote, albeit centrally located community, is situated about one hour north of San Francisco. It is just a few miles off Highway 1 at the "end of the road," nestled in the rolling coastal foothills of Marin County. You will pass through the historic town of Tomales (named for the 'Tomal' Indians).
Be sure to visit the Tomales History center and the William Tell House Restaurant. Sample early morning treats from the Tomales Bakery and Deli, all seen in the 2001 motion picture "Bandits."
Our home is located four miles west of Tomales in the original little village area of Dillon Beach, and just two easy-walking blocks from the long, sandy beach. The house is very comfortable, accommodating a maximum of eight people.
We welcome families with children but request that the party securing the rental be at least 25 years old. Built in 1940, our family home has been remodeled and upgraded to fulfill everyone's comfort zone. Because "Wind Song" has been in the family for over 60 years, you will enjoy the many personal touches and photos of the past - creating a hospitable atmosphere and a feeling of being at home.
From the bright and sunny living/dining room with ocean views, to the privacy of our beautiful little back yard where you can enjoy morning coffee while watching the birds feed and bathe, Wind Song will provide you with all the ingredients for solitude, relaxation, reflection and just plain fun. Visit the many antique shops in nearby Petaluma and Sebastopol. Play golf one-half hour away at Bodega Bay, or visit their quaint shops. On Friday's, you can visit the University of California Marine Biology Center and learn everything you have every wanted to know about lobsters and other marine life in the area.
Have dinner in one of the many wonderful restaurants frequented by the locals. Visit the Dillon Beach Cafe for a taste of local cuisine and the regulars. Take a drive to the surrounding wineries and do a little tasting.
Drive down the bay and purchase fresh oysters; eat them on site at the Tomales Bay Oyster Company or the Hog Island Oyster Company, both at the water's edge, or bring them back to Wind Song and barbeque them out on the deck (recipe posted on our bulletin board). Spend the day walking the beach to the fishing pier, or head up to the tide pools at the opposite end of the beach.
Top off your day with a late (and very safe) evening walk through the village enjoying the fragrances of the sea and sand, and look back at the warm glow of the lighted homes up on the hillsides. We invite you to visit us and share the experience. You will be amazed how easy it is to step back in time at Dillon Beach.
WE ENJOY KNOWING THAT PEOPLE WHO SHARE OUR HOME SHARE OUR LOVE OF THE COAST. WE ALWAYS ALLOW EARLY CHECK-IN/ - LATE CHECK-OUT TIMES WHENEVER POSSIBLE AT NO EXTRA CHARGE.

Windsong Weekend

I have stayed at Windsong many times over the years, and recently I took my boyfriend on his inaugural visit. He instantly fell in love with the place - the village, the view, and the house itself. We had beautiful weather and spent much of one day down on the beach. The house is very comfortable and feels like home. When I want to be outside, I like the option of privacy in the tranquil back yard or sitting in the front and visiting with people as they walk by. My most recent visit was with my crafting group; we are all now retired and have upgraded our annual Windsong weekends to semiannual 3-night stays. The main living area is spacious enough that knitters, quilters, and scrapbookers can all spread out and work on projects. And the fully-appointed kitchen allows us to cook (aka eat) well while we craft!
Owner response:Thank you Cindy, et al! We love our "family" of tenants.

We spent 3 lovely days in Dillon Beach at Windsong over the New Years holiday. What a great house! The beds were comfortable, the kitchen nicely appointed and the proximity to the beach is fabulous. Great views and sunsets for two nights, nice fire pit in the backyard and all in all a most relaxing vacation. Fresh oysters just down the road, a nice little cafe in Dillon Beach and clean, warm house to come back to after long walks on the beach. We enjoyed everything! Thanks for sharing with us.
Owner response:Thanks for the wonderful review. We hope you will return to Dillon once again.

We had the pleasure of staying at Windsong over the Thanksgiving holiday. Our family enjoys coming to Windsong and Dillon's Beach. The home is well-equipped and has roomy bedrooms for the kids to enjoy. The backyard is a added treat - haveyour morning coffee or evening wine, especially nice sitting by the firepit and stargazing. This charming home is well cared for and has everything you need to enjoy your stay at Dillon's Beach.
Owner response:Thank you for the great review! The doors are always open for you and your family.

We are frequent renters at various houses in the Village. A charming home with a lot of history. The rooms have interesting closets (one that joins two rooms), a small one the height of a 10yr old. The beds and pillows are cofy. The backyard counter and sink kept the inside kitchen from getting full of sand. The landscape backyard is a wonderful escape all it's own. The house has practically everything you need for a weekend or extended stay. Marilyn is a gracious owner with a warm and cozy home to share. We love Dillon Beach and the family who came with us is hooked also!
Owner response:We love having families visit our "historic" home. The house does hold a great deal of history and wonderful memories for our family dating back to the building of its sturdy foundation, which is how it has managed to withstand the sands of time! We are happy to share. Don and Marilyn Greaves

Marilyn's house is perfect for "getting away from it all", long walks on the long beach, and trips up to Bodega Bay and down to Marin County. I've stayed at Windsong on a quilt retreat with three friends, and also with my family and friends, including a baby, two-year-old and six-year-old (8 total). The configuration of rooms and vanities within each room worked wonderfully for the families-- two kids in the bunkbeds, the little one on the trundle and the baby in a playpen. The bedrooms are separated from the living/dining area enough to allow quiet early bedtimes and latenight card games. For such a small "footprint", the house has a lot of room for people and things, and is very quiet. Marilyn has stocked the kitchen with pots and pans enough to satisfy our two chefs (we used every one)and the children were entranced by the magical multi-level garden. We were very pleased with the accommodations and will definitely come back!
