Port of Spain house description
Beautiful Colonial Architecture in a quiet neighbourhood, on the main road in St.Anns. This house is a perfect get-away for you and your family or just you and your friends. The house is split to provide comfort for just the two of you or for a large group. There is a one bedroom semi-detached loft that is fully -furnished with kitchenette (additional price) or a fully functional house with all the amenities to provide a home away from home feel, with a large living room, an elegant dining room and a fully functional kitchen with all modern conveniences. With a vegetable mart steps away to a high-end grocery store mere minutes away on foot. The gorgeous botanical gardens 5 minutes away to the back of the property and the Savannah (kite flying, leisure walking, street food: snowcones, coconuts, poulorie) about 20mins walking distance. Taking in a cultural performance at The theatre (Queens Hall) again 15 mins walking distance. Being in the city makes getting to and from nightclubs easy (car/driver recomm.)
The location of the house is ideal for traveling around Port of Spain. There is a bus stop right outside the gates, as well as numerous taxi's heading into and out of downtown. The property also has parking available if you decide to rent a car.
The Savannah and NAPA are close enough to walk to and enjoy a little entertainment.
The museum is also in the same area.
Morning walks through the Botanical Gardens are magical. And a trip to the Zoo right next door to the Gardens is highly recommended.
The house and area are secure with an alarm system, bugler proofing, and security cameras around the premises that are monitored, as we believe in safety first.
We want your stay with us to be enjoyable and worry free.
Information on tours and vehicle hire for beach trips can be made available.

Excellent location and plenty of room inside...a t
When we arrived, the Charles Family made us feel welcome and did an excellent job of orienting us to the Greater Port of Spain metropolitan region, including the North Coast beaches of Maracas Bay and Magariep. The Charles family also gave us a free tour of points of interest in the City, including the famous Breakfast Shack on the harbor and various shopping malls. They were also able to connect us with a local swimming club where our kids could sign up for full-day swimming camps while we got to relax and enjoy some peace and quiet and they on the other hand learned about the Trinidadian culture through the other kids at the Camp. In addition to the hospitality of the hosts, the location could not have been better. Colonial House is located within walking distance of several attractions in Port of Spain, including the Savannah Park, the Zoo and Botanical Gardens and the Queens Oval Theater. It is also located next to a fruit and vegetable market, a local Trini bakery and a grocery supermakert. We ate fresh mangoes and other local fruit/vegetables daily and cooked most of out meals right at the house. With 2 spacious bedrooms, 2 full baths, a full kitchen, a dining room, a living room, an enclosed porch and a fenced/gated yard, we (2 adults, 3 kids) never felt like we were on top of each other and enjoyed every moment we spent in the house. While we were cooking or relaxing at the house, our kids had plenty of space to play both inside and outside. When we were done eating, we often went for long walks around the Savannah and got to drink some fresh coconut water from the many vendors around the park. If you are looking to experience a feeling of being home away from home, Colonial house is a great choice and we strongly recommend it, particularly if you are traveling as a family with young kids or two couples. We certainly plan to stay there the next time we visit Trinidad. · By Jay and Marie from Albany, New York, USA on 3/22/2013 for a stay in 8/1/2012 Value: 5 of 5 Check-in: 5 of 5 Location: 5 of 5 Cleanliness: 5 of 5 Comfort: 5 of 5 Service: 5 of 5 I selected this accommodation because of Outdoor/Adventure

Carnival 2013Guest comment entered by owner
Good day... stayed at the Colonial house for the 2013 carnival season. We stayed there for a total 10 days. I have nothing but great things to say about the house. We were the first people to rent the two back apartments in the back of the main house so everything was pristine!!! Nisha and her father were the best for accommodating us. Coming back from a fete(party) our car got wrecked(towed) Mr Charles was nice enough to drop me over in St.James to pick it up!!! I will definitely be staying for 2014 carnival season!!! · By Marley-Marl from BUCKTOWN USA on 3/23/2013 for a stay in 2/1/2013 at My Detailed Ratings Value: 5 of 5 Check-in: 4 of 5 Location: 5 of 5 Cleanliness: 5 of 5 Comfort: 5 of 5 Service: 5 of 5 I selected this accommodation because of Beach/Sun,

We had a great time in POS, and staying at Nisha's property was the best. We stayed in the beautiful home for one night and then the apartments the next two nights. Nisha was a wonderful, friendly host. Her and her father and friend Keith were are very helpful with things to do, directions and the home and apartments were the best lodging we have had in Trinidad. Very well appointed, clean, quiet and very secure. Nisha's mother has a little store next to the home full of fruits and vegetables and staples you might need. There is a larger market two blocks away. The location is convenient to all things in POS. Nisha was kind enough to give us the name and number of a driver for areas that weren't in walking distance. If you want stress-free lodging this is the place. Two thumbs up! Thanks Nisha

About the owner: I grew up in Trinidad and went to one of the more prestigious girls high schools in the country (Bishops). After high school I attended the Caribbean Union College where I was first introduced to students and professors from all over the Caribbean. It was my first taste of new but similar cultures. I transfered to York University in Canada and spent the next few years finishing my degree, working and making invaluable friendships there. Having spent that time being introduced to a new way of life and completely new culture, I found myself in a rut so I did it again, and uprouted myself to Turkey, were I spent the next few years in an even more confusing environment. LOL!. But what an experience! Going back to basics, starting from the ground up financially, new friendships, new language, new culture, the learning curve was ridiculous. After another few years, traveling around the surrounding countries, and making even stronger friendships, coming back home was supposed to be easy. But once again I found myself in a totally new environment. Trinidad has changed in the 12years I've been gone. But I trust my instincts and my ability to adapt. Plus I love being around my family again, even when they drive me insane. :)
Why the Owner Chose Port of Spain:
The house and its surroundings were added to the family holdings in the year 2008. It was purchased from the previous owners (The R.C. Church). Once in possession, my parents with the help of my brother, who designed and oversaw construction, proceeded to update and restore the house, trying to keep the historical features in place. My mom had this dream of a guesthouse and she put everything into designing the interior, from the chandilier to the kitchen plates, this is her new baby. And what a baby it is! As a family project we hope to see it take off and fulfil her dreams. Construction started in 2009 and was completed in 2011 and our first guest was in February 2012. It's a brand new space that I hope our guests will appreciate.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
The height of the ceilings and doors in this house gives you the feeling of space and the wood panelling on the walls and floors makes the whole space more luxurious with an old world feeling, while the modern appliances and the house location makes living in this world convenient and comfortable.
