Keywords: Vacation Home
"Sansei Hale" (Third Generation House) was built in 2005. It is a luxury vacation rental home overlooking the beautiful private Waikomo Stream as it meets the ocean in Turtle Cove, Poipu. It has three bedrooms (2 kings and 1 twin set) and three full bathrooms in a stunning, private setting. Both king beds are "Select-Comfort Dual Control." All bedrooms, living and dining have remote controlled AC units and ceiling fans throughout. The home has easy ground access to the large downstairs area that encompasses one bedroom/bath, living room, kitchen, dining area, and a spacious covered lanai with ocean and river views. Barbecue on the lanai, watch the stream roll into the Pacific Ocean, and enjoy the starry nights while falling asleep to the wonderful sounds of the stream and ocean.
The fully-equipped kitchen features granite countertops, with a center island and bar stools. The dining area, which seats six, is open to a living room featuring an entertainment center, 42" flat screen TV with TIVO, DVD player, and CD sound system. Slate floors and island-style furnishings complement the setting. The grounds are lush with tropical flowers and trees and cooled by the ocean trade winds. Steps take you to the stream below and to Turtle Cove, true to its name each evening.
The second floor has an ocean viewing deck, 2 bedrooms/2 baths and a bonus room with a queen sofa bed. The cathedral-ceiling bonus room also has a wet bar with mini-refrigerator and microwave. The entire home can accommodate eight people, with two king-size beds, two twins, and a queen sofa. The sleeping areas allow for space, comfort, and privacy for a wonderful island experience for couples and/or the entire family.
World famous Poipu Beach Park and Spouting Horn are a about a mile down the coast. Baby Beach is one block away and the National Botanical Gardens are walking distance from the home. Koloa Landing, an excellent snorkeling and shore scuba diving spot, is just off the shore of the river mouth which is adjacent to the house. It is also known as Turtle Cove as turtles gather there throughout the year as their sleeping spot. Tennis, Golf (including Poipu Bay, home of the PGA Grand Slam), and excellent surfing are within minutes, yet the setting is very private. Fine dining abounds, ranging from elegant to casual, garden settings to oceanfront.
We hope you come to visit our Sansei Hale and experience the local Hawaiian island escape.

Aloha from Garen and Susan McCune, owners of Sansei Hale!
Sansei Hale, is our Hawaiiana HOME where you will relax—enjoy the privacy of the stream AND the ocean, watch the fish and rare birds in the stream just below the deck, see the turtles in the cove, and soak up the genuine aloha that is truly Kauai.
Susan was born and raised on this very spot, surrounded by avocados, mangos, bananas, star fruit, pamello—all of which are still here. Susan’s playground was Baby Beach, Kukuiula Landing, Poipu Beach and Koloa Town…also all still here! Garen, the consummate adventurer, knows the island’s hiking, diving, exploring. Both of us would love to share our wealth of information to enhance your Kauai experience.
GLM Custom Homes is the McCune family business in Granite Bay, CA. A custom home builder of 30 years, Garen designed and constructed Sansei Hale on our Miyahara family property in 2005. The McCune children, Jason and Tricia, celebrated both their weddings at Sansei Hale, overlooking Waikomo Stream and Turtle Cove. Several guests to our home have also chosen our home to celebrate their own weddings and anniversaries.
“Sansei is the number 3 in Japanese, and “hale” means “home” in Hawaiian. Susan is the third generation of Hawaii’s Japanese immigrants that settled in Koloa Town…hence, with honor and love we call our home, Sansei Hale, “third generation home.” Today, a blended family of Hapas (racially mixed), we embrace our cosmopolitan/Hawaiian heritage, particularly our Kauai culture. With warm aloha, we welcome you to share our piece of paradise and call it “home” too as you enjoy the truly local experience of Sansei Hale. Once you do, we hope you will return again and again as many of our guests do!
Come share our island paradise!

We stayed in this beautiful home from Jun 20 - 27. We found it to be an awesome place to stay, it was very comfortable and nicely decorated. With the added fact that it was close to everything you could want to do. You have a great house and I do believe you'll be hearing from us again next year. Mahalo, Mark.

Once again Frank and I want to thank you for making your lovely home in Kauai for us to rent-through your generous donation to the Knights. We had a super time with our family celebrating the high school graduation of a very special grandaughter who"ll be at San Jose State this fall. We all loved our time in your place. It felt like home--so comfy--so beautifully decorated and set up perfectly for our family. What great memories AND we found and loved Baby Beach! All the best...Vi & Frank

We were deligted with Sansei Hale in every respect. The house is beautifully decorated and yet very comfortable and welcoming. The location and views are unbeatable and the layout of the house providing two master bedroom suites as well as additional sleeping room/area is great for couples or families. The perfectly designed and equipped gourmet kitchen and both inside/outside eating areas work very well and the comfort of the living room made our family kick back evenings perfect. We can't wait for our next stay, which is already booked so we can share it once again with some of our family. It truly is a home in paradise.

We stayed at this home for 6 weeks with our 2 kids. It would be hard to describe the trip in detail, but truely wonderful, would be close. This home is very well equiped and is very comfortable. The yard itself has much character and is very well maintained. The kids had a great time picking bananas, avacodoes, Mangos, coconuts and limes. I left my number in case anyone has questions. Dave

Absolutely idyllic setting-from the moment the sun peeks over the trees to the soothing lull of the stream at night. We walk down to "Turtle Cove" every evening to watch the turtles come in from the ocean - spectacular and thrilling! The house is beautifully decorated & laid out perfectly. The kitchen is a dream - top of the line appliances - and the lanai is where we eat every meal. We have stayed 3 times, with our 4th already booked for next year. I call it "Heaven on Earth" and it truly is. Oh! The snorkeling at the end of the creek is GREAT. Grab your gear and walk down. Poipu Beach is nearby and it's the perfect spot for all ages to snorkel. Best place to stay in Kauai - hands down.

7/22/09-What a fabulous home to stay in. We had a wonderful time on the island. We snorkled on Poipu Beach, drove to the Kilauea Lighthouse, visited Hanalei Beach, waterfalls and the Smith's Luau were all fabulous. Most exciting was our marriage on Shipwreck Beach and our beautiful reception at the Beach House. What an amazing trip!--the Suleiman Family
