After a disappointing lobster dinner in Charlotte, NC, I joked with my wife that we should go to Maine and do it right. Her birthday was a few weeks away, and I wanted to surprise her with an unusual vacation. Typically we travel to the NC mountains or the islands off SC. While searching through vacation ideas I remembered our sad lobster dinner and on a whim looked up rental properties in Maine. I've often wondered why people would want to live in a climate as cold as this, but after spending a week in Bar Harbor I can finally see the attraction. Everywhere you look is a fairytale setting. The mountains and ocean views are breathtaking. When I booked this trip I had no idea of what to expect, other than getting my wife as far away from work as possible. To that extent it was an overwhelming success. She insisted on bringing her work laptop, but she never pulled it out of the bag the entire week. We arrived on Monday, 4/15, which is just out of season for the area. Many of the shops are still closed until May, and a few of the activities such as a whale watching boat ride were also not available. That was the downside of booking a trip this early in the year. However, the bright spot was having the entire resort area as our personal playground. There were hardly any crowds to contend with, and we managed to pack a full week of fun and adventure into the trip. My wife and I rode in a bi-plane and toured the lighthouses (Gary & Mike at Acadia Air Tours were awesome!) We booked a Stephen King Tour with Stu from SK-Tours of Maine (45 minutes away in Bangor) and had a wonderful time. My wife spent a day at the spa and afterwards we went to a wine tasting event. There were so many hiking trails with awe inspiring views that it's impossible to visit them all in a week, but we tried. I'm running out of room on this review, and I haven't even mentioned the rental property yet! Robert and Marcia were gracious hosts, and they live in the area. They made sure we had everything we needed for our stay. The home is gorgeous (million dollar views are correct). It backs up to the Acadia National Park and you will see deer, eagles and other wildlife in this private setting. Sitting on one of the decks with a glass of wine watching the sun go down was a highlight. Oh, and the lobstah! Two Cats for breakfast and Side Street Cafe for dinner - you can't go wrong there. We had a 'wicked awesome' time. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for a romantic getaway.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

The owner is very accommodating and made the booking process very easy. I was a first time renter and felt very well taken care of. We came in late so we didn't end up meeting the owner until the third day of our stay but he was down the street if we needed anything. The home is totally a nature lover's dream. The view's of Acadia and the surrounding area are breathtaking. You can see Cadillac Mountain to the Southwest, the Kebo Valley Golf Club hills and meadows to the West and the town of Bar Harbor below you to the North with a little ocean peeking out just past the town. The panoramic windows and elevated floor plan make you feel like you are in a tree house above it all. Everything was taken care of within the home and the owners provide fresh linens and towels, laundry supplies and extra down comforters in case it gets chilly at night. The kitchen is stocked with lobster boiling supplies as well as plenty of other cookware and table settings. The location was great for us because we were a short walk from the town which has some really great dining and a lot of unique shopping. We had a fantastic meal a Galyn's and there are ample casual options too. Most evenings we spent walking around the town and harbor area and stopping in at the bars. Acadia National Park was the huge draw for us though and I wish that we had been able to spend more time there. I think we could've been there another month and still would've left wanting more. It's only a five minute walk from the front door to the park but you can do some driving through the park as well. You are also about a forty minute drive to Bangor which was a great way to spend a day as well. We took a Stephen King tour (www.sk-tours.com) which was fun and informative. I most liked to coziness of the house. Even with a large open floor plan it still feels warm plus all the windows act like a natural heater during the daylight hours so no cold mornings unless you're a very early riser. We will definitely be back to Bar Harbor some day and I hope that this home is available whenever that day comes.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

A clean, comfortable, well equipped and well appointed home with plenty of room. Owner greeted us with a fresh wild blueberry pie and remained available throughout our stay. The home has more stairs than you might be used to but this is what makes the views so outstanding. It's quite close to the action of the village but still tucked away and in a very quiet area. Nice rental with good access to park.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with teenagers, families with young children, sightseeing.

Mu husband and I enjoyed our stay at this home very much and would definitely recommend it and stay here again. Our host Bob was most accommodating. The home itself has great views and a wonderful deck. It is conveniently located to Acadia National park and overlooks Kebo golf course. Getting to town is walkable, although we found it very easy to drive down the hill and park a little closer to town. The location is very quiet and a wonderful place to come back to and relax after a day of activities. Everything was well maintained and clean upon arrival. The kitchen is fully equipped and we found everything we needed for cooking several meals at home. It is a bit of a walk up the stairs to the kitchen since it is on the 3rd level, so bringing up all our drinks and food was a little bit of work. We also looked at listing 910757 which Bob also owns before we left. This home is also very nice and although the view isn't as good, there are no stairs to the kitchen. After looking at that home, I would also recommend it and would consider it for my next stay. We've been to Bar Harbor several times to enjoy hiking, biking, golfing and wandering the town of Bar Harbor. It is a beautiful spot and this is the nicest home we've stayed in so far. Stay here and I don't think you'll be disappointed.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Kebo View exceeded our expectations! It’s very spacious, comfortable, well appointed, and it has everything you need or want. The location is perfect, giving you the option to enjoy the views and solitude, visit beautiful Acadia National Park, play golf at Kebo GC, or travel 5 blocks down the road to the center of Bar Harbor and all it has to offer. Bob and Marcia are very gracious hosts, and we would rent this property again if we planned to revisit the area. We thank them for their hospitality and kindness during our stay. We had a wonderful time and brought home some great memories!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We just returned from staying for one week with our 2 sons and my parents in their early 80s. The house is spacious, clean, comfortable and has gorgeous views of the mountatins. It is a great home to come back to after an active day of hiking or sight seeing. There are many comfy chairs on the two decks for sitting in the sun or shade, with a book and a view. I don't think the pictures fully reflect how great the view is. The kitchen and bedrooms are well stocked/supplied and laundry was very convenient right next to the bedrooms. Bob checked in to make sure we had everything we needed and was available nearby or by phone if we had any questions. He gave us excellent advice about local restaurants and things to do. The house is about a mile walk into the center of town. Very doable (though not as easy for my octogenarian parents to walk both ways.) The house is also very close to the Park Loop Road--the right fork off of Ledgelawn is Great Meadow Drive-- this was an easy and convenient way to drive or bike in and out of Acadia. We had a great week with warm, sunny weather. Though there was no A/C it would always cool off in the evening on the floor with the bedrooms ( I needed the extra blanket provided), and fans provided great cross ventillation through the big windows and screen doors on the third floor. With a king bed, 2 doubles and fold out couch in the living room, you could potentially sleep more than six (if kids are willing to team up on the doubles and if OK with Bob) I would be happy to stay here again!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

The location of this home is high up as seen in pictures. THe problem is that you have to drive thru the city dump and transfer stations to get to it. OK if you are driving thru but NOT alright if riding a bike or walking thru (smelly and noisy). As seen in the pictures, the deck is along the back of the house not the side where you look at Cadillac Mtn or the golf course. There are only enough dishes for 6 and the pots and pans are old. Wished there was a picnic table to seat us all out on the deck. The owner wants you to strip the beds and start the laundry before you go which is a issue when leaving at 8am. Also not a good idea since then you see what you've been sleeping on old pillows. The location to the park and town is great. The home is roomy and comfortable. THe owner is helpful but did come over to inquire how many people were staying at the house. We had friends staying elsewhere who would pick us up in the morning and stay for dinner at the house. After all said I would recommend this house to you but you need to know what to expect.Owner response: It is perplexing seeing your review posted on a site different from the one you had booked with us! After receiving your first review 2 months ago, (on the site you did book with us), it was surprising to find a 2nd post after much time has passed! As we stated in our first response, “Yes, the town facilities are located in a residential area; however not boarding, not visible, nor are smells noticeable from the house”. And again, from our original letter, to respond to your discontent of “only enough dishes for 6” is here as follows: “We suspect the reason behind your dissatisfaction is due primarily because of our objection of housing another family whom were not under contract with us. We feel you abused and took advantage of the situation; after repeatedly seeing other vehicles up the driveway, and at times your visitors were using the home while you were not there! Our signed rental agreement with you states one family of 5.” Our contract states our home comfortably accommodates a family of up to 6 people. There are plenty of essentials and seating for a group that size. “As conscientious property owners/renters, we felt something needed to be said and addressed with you.” The attempts that were made to resolve this matter were unsuccessful; your guests were the only ones present at the time. We were very cordial to your visiting guests; we would have appreciated the same respect in return. We have been extremely fortunate to have many wonderful happy families and guests renting our home for years and it is important to us that we try our best to make our visitors feel welcome and comfortable. It is unfortunate and regrettable that you didn’t enjoy your stay.

We had a great experience at Acadia, beginning with this home. Bob was great before arrival, asking what he could do to make our stay enjoyable, and after meeting him, I knew he meant it. The home was bigger than we needed, but in retrospect, it was just right. The views from the living room and master bedroom were fantastic. Sitting on the deck overlooking the park and golf course was worth the 1000 mile drive. The home was clean and well stocked for any traveler. We will be coming back and Bob will be the first person we call.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We just got back from our trip to Maine. the house was terrific. there was enough room so that our teenage boys could have some space to themselves and so that we could all cook and eat together. the rooms were comfortable and the kitchen had enough equipment so that we could cook lobster in often. the house is located on a dead end backing up to the golf course. it is located just outside of the touristy area of bar harbor, but we were all by ourselves in the woods--very convenient without having to be in the tourist crowds. Bob was very helpful. I would recommend this property to anyone wanting a vacation on Mt. Desert Island. We did rock climbing one day and whale watching another day. we saw 1 humpback, 3 razorfin (?) and 1 minky(?) whale along with many dolphins, seals and sea birds. I had thought that the whale watching would be a deep sea snipe hunt, but it was really terrific. My son wanted to go fishing, but we discovered that there really isn't any good fishing on the island, and that the deep sea fishing is no good. I wish I had done my fishing research before we tried it. We might have gone inland for that.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with teenagers, families with young children, sightseeing.

This house was just wonderful. I love watching birds and this house is surrounded by trees on all 4 sides, and warblers were singing all day. The house was clean and well kept. Bob, the owner was very kind and offered to help with anything we may need. The kitchen was well stocked and clean. Most everything but food is provided for your stay. The Park Loop Rd is right around the corner and easy to get to. Road leading up to the house is newly paved (that will look nice). The price was also very reasonable. The whole family can't wait to go back to Acadia and rent this place again.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

The house was just as the description reads and photos indicate. It was clean and everything was in great shape. There was more than enough room for 6 of us in the 3 bedrooms, There would have been sufficient space even if we had had a few kids with us that could have slept upstairs. The long flight of stairs up to the living areas might be a challenge for those that can't manage stairs well. The kitchen well-equipped. There were nice views of the golf course area below. It was convenient to town, though we always chose to drive the short mile or so. I kept meaning to walk one day, but it didn't happen. We were so busy that we never got to meet Bob, the owner, who lives nearby. We exchanged emails in advance and he offered to help with planning. When we were there, he checked in by phone a couple of times and again offered his assistance and recommendations. Rental arrangements were made easily and he refunded our deposit quickly. There was plenty to do in the Acadia area. We kayaked from the quiet side of the island, rode bikes on the carriage trails to Jordan Pond, our adult kids rappelled from Otter Cliff, we hiked, and we had some great dinners, including the lobster and steak meal our kids cooked in the house.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, tourists without a car, sightseeing.

This is a really lovely big house on the edge of Bar Harbor. We are a family with a 2 year old and 5 year old, and spent a very happy week here in May. The house is good for small children, and very close to the Acadia National Park. We were able to enjoy the morning sun and evening sunset from the fantastic balcony. The house had everything we could want and Bob was very friendly and helpful. We would definitely return.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children.

This house was absolutely amazing - clean, close to town, wooded area, and very spacious. It's hard to rent a house online, but the renter made it very easy by providing many details. The fact that he lives close by and made sure we knew where to go and what to see also were very helpful! We definitely would return to this house again! A very pleasant experience and a relaxing vacation.
