Location: Victoria, Vancouver Island, The Islands, British Columbia, Canada

Accommodations:  Condo, 1 Bedroom + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath (Sleeps 4)

Keywords:  Residential self catering condominium

This luxurious condo fronts directly on Victoria's harbour with NO road or traffic running by out front, in a seven story residential building, offering both scenic peacefulness and convenient access. A short walk will bring you to all major downtown attractions, including the Empress Hotel and Convention Center, the Parliament Buildings, the Museum, and some of Victoria’s finest restaurants. Nearby are many boutiques, theatres and shopping opportunities.

Why not have breakfast on the balcony while watching seals frolic and kayakers paddle past? On a cool evening, perhaps you would enjoy curling up by the living room fireplace with one of the books or DVDs provided, as the harbour lights twinkle on.

Wake refreshed from the comfort of the sumptuous King-size pillow-top bed, surrounded by carefully selected furnishings. Enjoy a romantic second fireplace, in the bedroom, and view rowers and harbour traffic right from the bed. A Queen-size pull-out sofa bed is available in the living room. Always verify that the condo you are renting is a real 1 bedroom: many small studio condos are advertised as 1 bedrooms when the bedroom and living space are in one room very much limiting living space and flexibility.

Savour meals prepared in the fully equipped kitchen, and elegantly served at the mahogany inlaid dining table. The condo also offers air-conditioning, and reduced glare window tinting to maximize your comfort in the increased temperatures of these last few summers. The four piece bath includes a deep soaker tub, shower, hair dryer, and two robes for your comfort.

Charming water taxis stop at the wharf below and will transport you, inexpensively, to Victoria's many harbour attractions. Should you wish, whale watching and kayaking are just a few steps away. Perhaps you would choose instead one of the many golf courses, or miles of waterside bike paths. Bike rentals are next door.

Sunset is a lovely time to enjoy a glass of wine on the rooftop patio, overlooking the boats and seaplanes, while dinner sizzles on the gas BBQ.

The Mermaid Suite is an oasis of scenic luxury, with waterfront views and walking access to downtown amenities, but without the downtown bustle. There is also good separation in this condo between living and sleeping areas for privacy and quiet; many condos here have no walls/doors separating these 2 areas minimizing the ability to have private activities simultaneously.

The condo is 5 minutes walking distance from the Seaplane Terminal, 15 minutes from the Seattle Ferry port, 35 minutes from the Victoria Airport, and 40 minutes from the British Columbia Ferry Terminal at Swartz Bay. We provide dedicated underground parking, and will assist you with airport pick up, grocery delivery, reduced rental car rates, and myriad information on restaurants and attractions.

Pets only by prior written arrangement.

Why the Owner Chose Victoria

The abundance of variety in scenery, and activities, both recreational, and cultural, really impressed us in Victoria. Biking, whale watching, garden touring, museums, wineries, theates, the symphony- all in a Pacific island community with Canada's most moderate climate. The ease of manoeuvring around a small town without freeways, and the friendliness of a seaside community that has the charm of the little harbour ferries, all conjures up a peaceful haven separate from the frenzied real world.

The Unique Benefits of this Condo

Here you really can have the beauty of Victoria nestled at the water's edge without any of the usual downtown intrusions such as noise, congestion, smog, but still have immediate walking access to shops, and restaurants once you leave the condo. How nice to move about on foot, or on a bike to take in the fresh sea air rather than have to fight for a parking spot every time you venture out. Plus the changing panorama on the waterway just off the balcony will encourage you to slow down, and enjoy the captivating scenery and sunsets.

Great Location

Your condo is beautiful, but your location is even better. We walked and biked the nearby trails along the water, went whale watching directly from the condo pier, walked to the float plane terminal to spend a day in Vancouver after an early morning 20 minute flight into that harbour, and walked to Via Rail to take the historic train up to Qualicum through gorgeous scenery for the day. We had an amazing time without needing a car. Thank you.

We're Coming Back

Guest: Marco and family, Mexico (-)
Date of Stay: 06/15/05 Review Submitted: 01/07/12

Our family had a wonderful time in Victoria, and a great part was due to having such a comfortable place to crash after long days of sight seeing. Thank you so much for all your help, and hospitality. If it were not for all the space and the lovely view, our vacation wouldn't have been half as fun. I look froward to us coming back to stay at the Mermaid.

So Much to See

Thank you for being such gracious hosts. We really enjoyed a huge variety of activities thanks to your suggestions-walking trails along the Galloping Goose and Lochside Trails, the gorgeous Songhees harbour walk, the floral beauty of Beacon Hill Park, and all along the cliffs above the Pacific on Dallas Road looking towards the mountain tops of Washington state. We enjoyed all of the restaurants you suggested that we tried plus others we added to your list for future guests. We will be back!

So Much Better than a Hotel

This was our first visit to Victoria, and we truly enjoyed our 8 days here.Your condo is so beautifully furnished and appointed that it was like being in a lovely home rather than a claustrophobic hotel room. We loved seeing the water just outside every room and from the balcony, and being so close to the downtown that we didn't need a car.Thank you so much for your hospitality.

Lovely Condo

Guest: Kristina (San Diego, California)
Date of Stay: 07/16/11 Review Submitted: 07/25/11

My husband and I, and our two daughters stayed at the condo for five nights. The experience exceeded our expectations in every way. The owner was so gracious in helping me plan our vacation in Victoria, and upon arrival, the property manager was also delightful and wanted to help in every way that he could. The photographs of the condo are very nice, but the condo is much nicer than photographs are able to show. The view of the harbor is lovely at all times of the day and night, and the condo is beautifully appointed with lovely decor. Although we had a rental car, we never needed it in Victoria as the condo is within walking distance of everything. We used our car to travel up-island and to visit Buchart Gardens, but walked to all of the restaurants and museums downtown. I highly recommend this lovely condo and hope to stay there again sometime in the future.

Owner response:Hi Kristina, When our guests are happy, we are happy. This is your vacation, and we are delighted that our efforts and our manager's enabled you to more fully enjoy your Victoria escape. You live in such a terrific area yourselves in San Diego that we are pleased that Victoria so delighted you. We'd love to have the four of you return. Colleen and Don

Perfect cozy retreat!

Guest: Teena (Seattle, WA)
Date of Stay: 11/20/10 Review Submitted: 04/03/11

I spent a week in late November 2010, and it was the perfect apartment to keep warm during the snowstorm! Warm and cozy with the fireplace, and I could bundle up and walk to most of the places I wanted to go to. The parking space was a bonus, knowing I wouldn't have to worry about finding parking upon return after going out for the day. Francis, (who met me to show me around and give me keys) was extremely helpful and kind. Highly recommended, I hope to return for a visit again!

Owner response:Teena, your response to Victoria's surprise snow storm was very generous considering this is the one Canadian city that people usually journey to to avoid winter! You are certainly right about this condo's convenient location enabling you to walk everywhere in the downtown while still living at the edge of the harbour looking at sunset and the boats below. Please do come back when you can experience more moderate weather for which Victoria is known. Thank you for mentioning Francis who is always reliable and helpful with our guests.
