'Pilot's Perch'TM sits atop the mountain, in a beautiful setting, away from the hustle and bustle, but within a short distance to area attractions. Located just off Highway 52, approximately 3.5 miles from Mile Marker 199 of the Blue Ridge Parkway; this log cabin home is furnished with everything you need for rest and relaxation.
Curl up on the comfy sofa or love seat, both of which offer recliners, in front of our stone fireplace with inviting gas logs. Relax in the Jacuzzi tub. If it's the outdoors you love, grab a seat in an old timey cedar rocking chair on one of the two spacious mountain view decks or front porch and take in the breathtaking view of Pilot Mountain, the valley below and a long-range view of the Piedmont. This cabin boasts a wide open panoramic view! An added bonus is that there's always a breeze.
Enjoy a soak in the 'oh-so-relaxing' bubbling hot tub and let the water wash away the tensions of the city. Wake up snuggling under a handmade quilt in a warm and cozy bed with luxurious linens and pillowtop mattress to the sounds of birds and sights of deer and wild turkeys as close as your own front yard. Step out onto a deck to sip your coffee as you take in the gorgeous colors of the season. Spend the afternoon fishing in one of the two ponds in our development, enjoy a picnic beside a covered bridge, hike nearby trails, climb waterfalls or just relax and do nothing.
Motorcyclists and bikers will appreciate the security of the garage and the paved driveways. Senior citizens will appreciate the ease of accessibility; only two steps up and you're on the front porch which leads directly into the main living area of the cabin.
This Fancy Gap cabin has it all!
NO PETS! NO SMOKING! NO EXCEPTIONS! MUST BE 24 YEARS OLD OR OLDER TO RENT.

We had an outstanding stay at your cabin and the view was unbelievable, pictures do not do it justice. The cabin was very well decorated and furnished and the beds were so comfortable . It was wonderful to wake up to a sunrise peeking over the mountains and overseeing the town of Mt. airy on a clear night. ( Million dollar view) The Hillsville restaurant had an outstanding breakfast and the pancakes were the best. The Smokehouse BBQ in Galax was also very good especially the pulled pork. We enjoyed many day trips to Boone, Blowing Rock and the D-Day Memorial in Bedford. Our best trip was to Blacksburg where our Noles got a hard fought win against the Hokies. We had a great time at your cabin and we hope one day to make a return trip and will definitely recommend it to our friends. Thanks again for sharing your five star cabin with us.Recommended for: Girls getaway, families with young children, sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, romantic getaway.

My girlfriends and I stayed at Pilot's Perch, and we could not have been more pleased. This spacious cabin is very clean and well furnished (with everything you need), and atop the mountain is just perfect. We mostly enjoyed arising before sunrise and sitting out on the deck watching the fog lift as the sun crept up from the horizon. We were only three in our group, and there was lots and lots of room for us to roam. Perfect place for a quiet get away. Also, it's a very easy drive from the cabin to the New River Trail! We highly recommend Pilot's Perch!!Recommended for: Girls getaway, families with young children, sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, romantic getaway.
Owner response: We are so glad you enjoyed your stay at Pilot's Perch cabin. As you mentioned, the cabin is very close to the New River Trail State Park, making it the perfect location for those looking to enjoy the park's activities. For hikers, there are also lots of trails and places immediately surrounding the cabin and in the development in which it is located for them to enjoy. We agree with you that the view from the two decks is really unbelievably awesome. We hope you and your friends will make a visit to Pilot's Perch an annual event.

Being a little skeptical of renting on line from someone I do not know, after speaking to the owner of this cabin, I felt so comfortable with the transaction! I have to say, this was one of the best maintained and furnished vacation rentals I have rented. It was like being at home, everything the owner supplied for your stay down to the cookware was the best! Though Mr. Weatherman decided to rain on our parade, the cabin view was spectaculor! We did not want to leave and surely plan on returning in the near future. Great location..you are close to several tourist attractions.Recommended for: Girls getaway, sightseeing, age 55+, romantic getaway.
Owner response: Thank you for your nice comments about both Pilot's Perch cabin and your experience with us. We do strive to be the "best maintained and furnished" home in the Fancy Gap area, "down to the cookware." (I must admit it used to really dismay me to rent a home and not have adequate or decent cookware and utensils. Therefore, we have tried to provide most everything one would need to cook a good meal. After all, we have many guests who tell us they arrive and never leave the cabin because they enjoy the views, hot tub and cabin amenities so much. And being close to area attractions is a big plus!!! We're glad to hear you want to return for another visit. Maybe Mother Nature will cooperate the next time. However, I think you'll agree that the hot tub makes any kind of weather great!

We really enjoyed our stay in this cabin. It was very pretty and clean. Everything we needed was there. The location is great. We were close to the Blue Ridge Parkway and many local activities. The view from the deck was gorgeous. The hot tub was very refreshing. Just what we needed for our little family getaway. Thank you so much. We will definitely go back again.Recommended for: Girls getaway, sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway.
Owner response: We are so glad that you enjoyed your stay at Pilot's Perch and that you were pleased with the cabin and the awesome views it affords. We take real pride in the cleanliness of the cabin and give credit for it's well kept condition to our housekeeper, Amy. She's great and treats the cabin as if it were her own home. It's good to hear you'll be back. Thanks for choosing Pilot's Perch!

We just completed a 12 night stay at Pilot's Perch. It was exactly as the pictures show, the view was spectacular, the owners so very helpful in giving us ideas of what to do, where to eat, how to get to places. The kitchen was well equipped for fixing meals and we found the entire experience to be just perfect. We needed time to decompress and relax and the cabin was the perfect place for us to do that. We have now stayed in 4 VRBO's and have not been disappointed at all. We hope to return to Pilots Perch again!!!!Recommended for: Girls getaway, sightseeing, age 55+, romantic getaway.
Owner response: We are so glad that you enjoyed your recent stay at Pilot's Perch. We are even more excited that you enjoyed it enough to want to return for another visit. The cabin is a great place to get away from it all if you just want to relax. It is also located very close to some great sightseeing and shopping opportunities. You truly can do it all or do nothing at all. You choose.

We enjoyed our stay at Pilot's Perch. We spent the days relaxing on the deck overlooking Mount Airy, visiting the covered bridge in the subdivision, fishing in each of the subdivision's ponds, and grilling. We spent each night in the hot tub, relaxing and telling stories. The views were great and the cabin was perfect for our family. The kitchen has all of the pots and pans you could need. There were some condiments available for use. Roxanne was extremely helpful in providing us with all of the details we needed for our stay. I highly recommend this cabin.Owner response: Thank you so much for describing "Pilot's Perch" in such a delightful way! You're absolutely right - there is no more relaxing way to spend an evening at the cabin than soaking in the hot tub as the sun goes down watching the lights in the valley below as they come on. It looks like a million fireflies flickering in the distance! We're really glad too that you were able to get in some fishing in the development's ponds. There are some huge catfish in them that would make really great "fish tales." We have tried to provide all of the pots, pans and other amenities that our guests might need to make their stay enjoyable. I'm glad you found everything to your satisfaction. We hope to hear from you about a return visit sometime.

My husband and I chose this cabin for our honeymoon because of it's proximity to Raleigh and the views! It was the perfect place to relax after our wedding. We had plans to visit Mount Airy and several other places in the area, but we had so much fun just relaxing at the cabin. We went to the Food Lion in Hillsville the first night to get snacks and rent a movie at the RedBox. We then had dinner at the Mile High Burger in Hillsville. They had the best fried mushrooms and fried pickles and a very good burger. We went to Galax on the second day and found a new and used bookstore and ate dinner at the Galax Smokehouse. The next day, we just sat around and read our books. We went back to the Food Lion and cooked dinner the last night and enjoyed one last time in the hot tub. Overall, it was a really relaxing experience and Roxanne was really great to work with! She provided recommendations for several restaurants and tourist attractions. Our only complaint was that we didn't stay long enough (3 nights). We would like to go back for a week in the fall.Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, romantic getaway.
Owner response: Thank you for your kind words. We are so happy that you had a relaxing and peaceful honeymoon at "Pilot's Perch". So many of our guests tell us they go to the cabin with plans to do lots of sightseeing. However, after arriving they love the cabin so much, they end up spending most of their time there. That's confirmation for us that we've provided a really comfortable and relaxing get-a-way for our guests to enjoy. And it sounds like you all took our suggestions about some of the "local" food. There really are some great places to dine very close to the cabin! We'll look forward to hearing from you about a fall visit.

Pilots Perch is just perfect for that relaxing get away. Beautiful cabin that is peferctly appointed with all of the touches of home. From the big comfy deck chairs and beds, great hot tub and amazing views you just can't go wrong. Roxanne was just super to work with and so accomodating. Thanks! We found the local auction in Fancy Gap to be a real treat on Saturday night and found some treasures too. Also, don't miss the opportunity to slip back into the past at the Hillville Diner and Family Shoe Store!Recommended for: Girls getaway, families with young children, sightseeing, romantic getaway.

This place is fantastic. Great cabin, wonderful hot tub, awe inspiring views! We loved it, and it was February. Really want to return when it is a little warmer, we would never turn on a TV if weather permitted setting on the deck all day and evening. If you want to sleep in, don't take the downstairs bedroom, but if you are an early riser you won't even need an alarm clock. The sun will wake you up and the views will keep you going. Roxanne is the sweetest person, can't go wrong with this one! Mandi & TimRecommended for: Girls getaway, sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, romantic getaway.
Owner response: You are right about the downstairs bedroom. I awoke one morning (really early) and the whole room was filled with a pink glow. I couldn't imagine what the glow was coming from. I got out of bed, went out onto the deck that adjoins the downstairs bedroom and was greeted by the most amazing sunrise I had ever seen. I ran back inside and grabbed my camera and started snapping. Check out the photo of the sunrise on our webpage to see what I captured on film. Amazing!!! Thank you for the nice comments. We would love to have you back again for another visit.

We were looking for a mid-way point to meet our friends. I found Pilot's Perch and e-mailed the owners. From that point on "Roxanne" was so wonderful to work with and answered my every need. Provided great direction to the cabin (follow them, they are great) and other places to visit, eat, and more. The cabin description and pictures were very accurate, just as advertised. The lay out works great for two couples with the main level bedroom and the lower level bedroom for privacy. The cabin was well maintained, very clean, very comfortable, and had a well equipped kitchen. Everything you need to prepare any meal and a full size gas grill on the deck. Inside relax in front of the fire place while watching the TV with your feet up. Can't say enough about the view from the double deck's. > Don't miss it, it's beautiful, morning sun rise (if you are up) and thousands of evening lights, picture > perfect. Even more beautiful when it's snowing (I know we watched it snow all day on Sunday at no extra charge, what a deal) Don't forget that "Hot Tub", what a relaxing way to wind down at night and the view is amazing.(You should see it when it is snowing) Just can't say enough good things about this cabin and it's owners. The road leading to the cabin is a narrow and winding one, but well worth the ride. Trust me. We hope to visit again and will recommend Pilot's Perch to all our friends. If you want a place to get-a-way and just relax, you have found it. A 5 Star Rating, hands down. You can't go wrong with this cabin. Thanks to Roxanne and Clint for allowing us into their little peace of heaven.Recommended for: Girls getaway, age 55+, romantic getaway.
Owner response: Thank you so much for taking the time to post your impressions of "Pilot's Perch" cabin. We truly enjoy sharing our little "peace of heaven" with nice folks like you all. The road leading to the cabin is narrow and winding but almost every time you travel it, you get to see deer, wild turkey and other wildlife. And how about those "photo op" spots where you come around a curve and feel like you can see to eternity!! Amazing!

About the owner: We built “Pilot’s Perch”TM log cabin as our personal vacation home in the Blue Ridge Mountains. We named the cabin after Pilot Mountain, which both decks face, and the fact that the cabin appears to literally “perch” on the side of our mountain lot. 'Pilot's Perch'TM is our home away from home. It has given us a peaceful and stress free destination at which to relax and unwind. We hope you will enjoy it as much as we do. The cabin is beautifully furnished and decorated with all the conveniences of home and we continually update and add amenities to enhance our guests' mountain experience. The only negative thing we have discovered about “Pilot’s Perch'TM, is having to leave it to go home. We know you will feel the same way once you've visited!
Why the Owner Chose Fancy Gap:
We chose the Fancy Gap area for its close proximity to our home in North Carolina. The lot on which we built the cabin was selected for its breathtaking views! It is also great that we are minutes from the Blue Ridge Parkway and we are really close and accessible to so many area attractions. The cabin is 25 minutes from Mount Airy, NC to the south (Andy Griffith's hometown) and 25 minutes from Galax, VA to the north (lots of antique stores and quaint shops). There are several wineries nearby, including Chateau Morrisette, West Wind Winery, Shelton Vineyards, Old North State Winery and Villa Appalacia. Mabry Mill is just a short scenic ride down the Parkway and the New River Trail State Park is only a short drive up I-77. 'Pilot's Perch'TM is located in an area in which you can always find something to do or you can just relax and enjoy doing nothing. The fact that all the roads leading to the cabin are paved is a definite plus.
The Unique Benefits at this Cabin:
'Pilot's Perch'TM has two large decks, both of which offer awesome views of the Piedmont and Pilot Mountain, the cabin's namesake. On clear days, we can actually see the tops of the skyscrapers in Winston-Salem, NC which are approximately 52 miles away. We have furnished the cabin with some really neat furniture and accessories that we hand picked because of the memories they evoke of our 'growing up' years. We have also tried to provide all the conveniences of home. Chances are, if you have it at home, you'll find it at 'Pilot's Perch'TM. The development in which the cabin is located has 2 ponds for our guests' enjoyment. (You should see the size of the catfish in one of them!) There is a covered bridge over a nearby stream with picnic tables, where visitors may enjoy a picnic lunch. We have waterfalls for you to enjoy climbing and it is an everyday occurrence to see wild turkeys, deer and other wildlife around the cabin and in the development. You might even spot a bear!
