Pilots Perch is just perfect for that relaxing get away. Beautiful cabin that is peferctly appointed with all of the touches of home. From the big comfy deck chairs and beds, great hot tub and amazing views you just can't go wrong. Roxanne was just super to work with and so accomodating. Thanks! We found the local auction in Fancy Gap to be a real treat on Saturday night and found some treasures too. Also, don't miss the opportunity to slip back into the past at the Hillville Diner and Family Shoe Store!

This place is fantastic. Great cabin, wonderful hot tub, awe inspiring views! We loved it, and it was February. Really want to return when it is a little warmer, we would never turn on a TV if weather permitted setting on the deck all day and evening. If you want to sleep in, don't take the downstairs bedroom, but if you are an early riser you won't even need an alarm clock. The sun will wake you up and the views will keep you going. Roxanne is the sweetest person, can't go wrong with this one! Mandi & Tim

Owner response:You are right about the downstairs bedroom. I awoke one morning (really early) and the whole room was filled with a pink glow. I couldn't imagine what the glow was coming from. I got out of bed, went out onto the deck that adjoins the downstairs bedroom and was greeted by the most amazing sunrise I had ever seen. I ran back inside and grabbed my camera and started snapping. "WOW" What a Get-A-Way Weekend

We were looking for a mid-way point to meet our friends. I found Pilot's Perch and e-mailed the owners. From that point on "Roxanne" was so wonderful to work with and answered my every need. Provided great direction to the cabin (follow them, they are great) and other places to visit, eat, and more. The cabin description and pictures were very accurate, just as advertised. The lay out works great for two couples with the main level bedroom and the lower level bedroom for privacy. The cabin was well maintained, very clean, very comfortable, and had a well equipped kitchen. Everything you need to prepare any meal and a full size gas grill on the deck. Inside relax in front of the fire place while watching the TV with your feet up. Can't say enough about the view from the double deck's. > Don't miss it, it's beautiful, morning sun rise (if you are up) and thousands of evening lights, picture > perfect. Even more beautiful when it's snowing (I know we watched it snow all day on Sunday at no extra charge, what a deal) Don't forget that "Hot Tub", what a relaxing way to wind down at night and the view is amazing.(You should see it when it is snowing) Just can't say enough good things about this cabin and it's owners. The road leading to the cabin is a narrow and winding one, but well worth the ride. Trust me. We hope to visit again and will recommend Pilot's Perch to all our friends. If you want a place to get-a-way and just relax, you have found it. A 5 Star Rating, hands down. You can't go wrong with this cabin. Thanks to Roxanne and Clint for allowing us into their little peace of heaven.

I had saved this property link hoping for an opportunity to get back to my native Southwest Virginia without partental duties. Finally, after 3 years... Pilot's Perch is exactly as advertised; it is clean, well-appointed, perched on a mountainside with long views of the valley below. We simply took along some simple food and drink items, and did not leave for 3 days. Of course, the fog was so thick one day that we didn't want to traverse the narrow road (I suspect snow could be a serious concern). The owners are pleasant to work with and (I think) genuinely enjoy sharing their vacation home with others. We hope to visit again soon.

You are absolutely right - when the fog rolls in, the best place to be is inside the cabin or in the hot tub on the covered deck! How about that view?!! Yes, the development's roads are narrow but the plus factor is that all the roads leading to the cabin are paved. As for snow, we strongly recommend that our guests drive a 4-wheel drive vehicle in the winter months. We do hope you'll visit with us again. It is always a pleasure to share our home with nice folks like you all.

Girls Weekend

The first weekend of November, myself and 3 of my best friends spent a "girls weekend" at the cabin. Two of my friends live in Ohio and the other two we live in NC. It was the perfect spot for us to meet. The directions were perfect--spot on for everything! The cabin itself was incredible. We fell in love immediately! Then we stepped out on the 2 decks and were yelling to each other how beautiful the views were!! We spent the weekend catching up in the hot tub, driving the parkway doing winery tours and even caught the local auction on Saturday night. I just can't say enough about how relaxing and beautiful the location was. The pictures are spot on of the view at night--it was amazing how during the day you saw the occasional cabin or small little church in the valley, but at night it's like you were watching a transformation of lights! We loved it all so much, yes, we are coming back next year for sure! Thank you so much for sharing your little piece of heaven with us!!

We just returned from our second visit in three months! We stayed at Pilot's Perch in August 2011 and were very excited to come back in October to enjoy the beautiful view of the fall foliage. The cabin is extremely clean and comfortable. The view is spectacular from both decks and the lower deck is great with the swing, rocking chairs and hot tub. The description and pictures of the cabin were very accurate and the views are even better than the pictures. The owner is extremely helpful and provided a great list of local attractions and food choices. The Gap Deli is near the entrance to the Blue Ridge Parkway and is very good (great pinto beans and corn bread!). You are also close to wineries and the New River Trail. We definitely plan to visit Pilot's Perch again in the future.

We enjoyed our stay at this lovely home. The house was exactly what we expected--comfortable, secluded, and beautiful. It was very clean. The owner was quite helpful, answered all of our pre-arrival questions, and called to make sure that we had arrived. We enjoyed visiting the Carroll County Fair, nearby Mt Airy, and especially recommend the brand new Mexican restaurant in downtown Hillsville--Cabo Mexican Grill & Cantina. I would recommend this property to anyone looking for a relaxing place to get away from everyday life.

A Simply Delightful Cabin!

After a week touring DC we were looking forward to a relaxing time in Virginia. From the moment we opened the door to the property, there was none of the disappointment you often experience with hotels and holiday accomodations where you see shortcomings or a lack of facilities and have to immediately try to ignore them so as to not spoil your holiday experience. The cabin was spotless and equipped to the highest standard. After watching our daughters rushing around to look at everything and hearing them call out all of the wonderful features we were able quickly settle and enjoy everything Pilot's Perch has to offer - we had fantastic weather and had no problem having lazy days in and around the cabin or venturing further afield - nearly always returning for a BBQ! We particularly enjoyed the Chateau Morrisette winery, touring the Blue Ridge and the old style Soda Fountain in Mount Airy became an instant favourite! We were VRBO newbies and have to say Roxanne is a credit to all owners, never losing patience with our questions - and even purchasd an item to put in the cabin that we enquired about to save us having to bring it over from the UK - thanks again! This cabin really is as good as the description.

It doesn't get any better than this! Very clean, extremely comfortable, beautiful and beautifully decorated. And the view, well...just look at the picture. That's exactly what it looks like at night. This cabin has the best view in the development and lots of privacy to boot! Our favorite was watching the sunset from the hot tub on the covered balcony. If you are looking for a relaxing getaway to help you slow down from everyday life this is it!

Just what I had been looking for....

Pilots Perch was just what I had been searching for and more in a beautiful cabin for my husband and I to just get away from the stress and worries of everyday life. It was a great location, breath-taking views, large privacy deck with rockers, swing, and large hot tub!! The cabin was well equipped and nicely maintained, very clean. The listing description is very accurate. The photos in the listing are beautiful and even more beautiful to see. The owners are wonderful people. I spoke with Roxanne and she answered all my questions, was so very friendly, and gave me helpful instructions and offered some great places to eat. Our favorite, which she mentioned was their favorite, was the Galax Steakhouse in nearby Galax, VA. The very best, one of a kind, mouth watering ribs and pulled pork along with great tasting sides. We also enjoyed visiting Mount Airy, and seeing the site of Andy Griffiths homeplace, the museum, jail, gift shops, etc. I would highly recommend this property to anyone looking a relaxing get away, honeymoon, anniversary, family, from the young to the old, you would be well pleased! Some, I understand do not even want to leave the cabin.. we actually did everyday for a few hours and would come back and relax and even took naps because it was rainy most days but so very relaxing and peaceful! We rate it a 5 star hands down!!!

Frequently, our guests tell us they go to the cabin intending to do lots of sightseeing but when they get there they enjoy the cabin so much they pretty much stay there most of the time. This is easy to do because "Pilot's Perch" has a well appointed kitchen, gas grill on a deck with views that you can't buy and a hot tub to wash away all your stress. Combine that with furniture that invites you take a nap and you have the formula for a very relaxing get-a-way. Also, I'm glad you enjoyed the restaurants I recommended. The "Smokehouse" in Galax does have some of the best ribs and pulled pork sandwiches I have ever tasted. And I highly recommend their fried potatoes (potatoes cut thin like potato chips and fried -- so.....good!) Thank you again for your nice comments. The cabin was even more beautiful than the pictures. The hot tub was great with an amazing view! The kitchen was well equipped and the cabin was very clean. I will NEVER again travel 4 hours just to stay at a beautiful cabin. My husband and I only live about 45 minutes from this location but had no idea it was here. We will definitely stay again! This cabin is everything the owner says it is. It is very well maintained, easy to find, quite, very private, and CLEAN. The view is absolutely PRICELESS! We actually could not believe it! You can see miles and miles and miles from those decks. The hot tub on the bottom deck is top of the line, clean, and most of all private. You cannot see another cabin from the hot tub. We have had so many good things to say about it, the whole extended family wants to go stay for a week. There are restaurants and activities nearby, but you probably won't want to leave the cabin!

Our anniversary Pilot's Perch Getaway

We rented Pilot's Perch for our 25th anniversary gift to each other. The fog was rolling in just as we reached the cabin. Everything was beautiful! There was everything at the cabin that anyone could want or need. We were socked in with rain and fog for the first 24 hrs and didn't care! We had a wonderful cabin, a fireplace, and a hot tub to relax in! When we did get out, we had lunch at Aunt Bea's and drove the Parkway for a while, but soon came right back to the comfort of the cabin. We will always remember our 25th as our perfect Pilot's Perch getaway!!!

Stunning setting

Highly recommended. Everything was perfect for our stay. I agree with previous posts that the cabin is even nicer than can be conveyed in the photos. The view is truly stunning. We had perfect fall weather for all but the last day, when a thick rain cloud sat on the mountain. We really appreciated the comfort and warmth of the cabin that day, especially the superb hot tub! Roxanne was very helpful in orienting us to all of the details for our stay.

A wonderful experience

This cabin was far nicer than what we had expected. The cabin is new with modern appliances and electronics and is furnished very tastefully. The bedding and linens were of good quality, not what you might ordinarily expect from a rental. The cabin was clean, comfortable and a pleasure to occupy. Paved roads to the cabin and a paved driveway make it easy and safe to negotiate by whatever mode of transportation you have. The decks off the lower level and main level offer a breathtaking view of the landscape for miles. An abundance of wildlife to see (white tailed dear, birds, rabbits etc) Great memories were made on this trip and we cannot wait to return to this cabin for another vacation. You won't be disappointed.

WHAT GREAT FOLKS YOU ARE! Besides the cabin and view being totally awesome, the owners of Pilot's Perch are even more awesome! We have never met Roxeanne and Clint in person, only talked by phone, but it doesn't take long to know what nice, caring people they are. The cabin is beautifully decorated and CLEAN! We celebrated our wedding anniversary this past weekend and do not typically rent cabins, but Pilot's Perch is a real treat. Vacations can actually be stressful at times, but this is the perfect place to leave your troubles behind and simply relax. We look forward to going back to Pilot's Perch. This was our second visit to Pilot's Perch and it won't be our last. The owners Roxanne and Clint are wonderful people who truly care that every visit is memorable. The cabin is equipped with everything you might need and all the comforts of home. It's only a short drive to Mabry Mill which is a must see along the Blue Ridge Parkway. I also have to give a big thank you to Amy who found my pills and had them UPS overnighted to our next destination so I had them the next day. I would rate Pilot's Perch a 10 out of 10. We just got back from our weekend at your cabin and wanted to let you know how much we enjoyed it.  Over the years we have rented a lot of cabins and condos and yours was one of the nicest we have stayed at.  The house was well equipped and decorated.  Normally when we travel we like going to different restaurants and eating out, but the views were so nice and area so quiet we cooked in every evening.  Again just wanted to let you know how much we enjoyed it and if any of our friends are going to the area we will definitely recommend your cabin.

WOW!! The photos on the website do not do this place justice, it's just one of those things you have to experience for yourself to believe it. This cabin has got to be the best vacation spot in the Blue Ridge Mountains. There is a mountain view for miles and miles, wild turkeys, fish ponds and hundreds of rabbits. This is the only vacation where we had rather stay at the cabin than travel, but the we would have missed all the neat things to do and the local area charm. Thanks for a super vacation. We'll be back.

What can we say that the previous guests haven't? Its all true! Everything was perfect (yes, it looks exactly like the photos). The owners, Roxanne and Clint, are very nice. They were very helpful, too, when we realized (en route) that we'd forgotten the directions and had to call them! They even called the cabin later that day to see if we'd made it and if we had any questions. Our only regret is that we only had two days. We would have loved to have spent the week.

Unbelievable! We spent Thanksgiving here and had a great visit. The cabin and surroundings are both something to behold. We fell in love with the place the minute we walked through the door! The views will leave you breathless and the cabin itself is awesome. We loved everything about it and hope to come back again. We ended our stay with a trip to the Christmas Tree Farm to choose a tree and it started snowing while we were there. What a beautiful and memorable way to end our holiday!

We visited the cabin for our 4th anniversary! It was quite beautiful and the view is breath taking! July 20th - July 22nd 2007 We've rented several different cabins in the NC mountains but I can truly say that this was one of the nicest ones that we've ever stayed. A wonderful home in a wonderful area. Pilot's Perch is the perfect mountain getaway - quite - peaceful - beautiful. We plan to return again very soon.

The cabin is PERFECT! (inside and out) The view is spectacular from the couch as well as the decks! Hot tub...swing...rockers...it's difficult to choose our favorite spot. Thanks so much.

Thank you for sharing your beautiful home with us. The view is awesome. So peaceful...Truly stress free. And it's so close to our favorite winery - Chateau Morrisette. Great Cabin!! We arrived the day Tropical Storm "Ernesto" passed by. The wind and clouds were wonderful. We slept to the sound of wind chimes. We had a wonderful time. We hate to leave. Thanks for opening up your home to us.

Wow! This was by far the best vacation we've ever been on. This is the most beautiful place we've ever been! We will definitely be back! The kids loved it and want to live here. We do, too! And it really is "breath-taking." Unfortunately, we have to leave only to have the best memories.....
