St. George cabin description
Our 4Lochs2 cottage is newly built and sucluded down a dirt road with only afew other cottages. The view from the cottage windows changes constantly with the tides. At low tide you can go clamming and enjoy them for dinner the same day. At high tide we enjoy kayaking, canoeing and of course swimming. At night you can relax by the fire outside and watch the stars which are like you will never experience in the city, you feel like you can reach out and touch them. If you are looking for a back to nature, relaxing get away from the stresses of everyday life then this is the place for you. You may or may not appreciate that you won't find a TV or Computer in this cottage however we do get cell (verizon anyway) service. Instead, enjoy board games and card games with family and friends. Now if you have kids and your thinking oh no a week with no TV, we have lots of kids that are so busy outdoors they never even notice. I hope you will love this retreat as much as we do.
4Lochs began as a small one room cabin with no running water, TV, Telephone and if nature called you had to walk the path. It got its name when the Massachussetts native Lochman family of 4 bought the land in 1962. In 2010 this beloved cabin was beyond salvage as our ever growing Family has worn it down. So out came the sledge hammers and 4Lochs2 was created, which is 5 times larger to accommidate all the grandkids the Lochmans left behind. Many of us were quite saddened by the distruction of the cabin that our beloved grandfather built with his own hands, so you will find many parts of the original in the new cottage and bunk house.
The new cottage has a Full bathroom (However, if you really want to feel more rustic the outhouse is still intacked). The kitchen is complete with running water, full fridge, stove and microwave. There is one private bedroom with a queen size bed on the first floor then the remaining beds are upstairs in the large loft area. The loft has a queen size bed and in the next month or two there will be added beds or futons. There is also a bunk house which our kids have claimed as their own club house. There are two twin matresses, small couch and loft which can fit atleast 2 air matresses. The bunk house has no electricity but you can always just run an extension cord if needed but our kids like to use their flashlights.

My husband and I, with our two small dogs, rented 4Lochs2 for two weeks last August '12 and it was HEAVEN to be away from it all. Working in NYC, we didn't want wi-fi, TV or telephone - the biggest decision we made everyday was about dinner. The cottage itself is in tip-top shape, having been completely rebuilt recently, and is very comfortable. It's at the end of a long dead end road - so nice and quiet. We kayaked nearly everyday - saw Ospreys, seals, and other wildlife; we made day trips to Acadia, Boothbay Harbor, and Monhegan Island; and we found some fabulous restaurants in Rockland (In Good Company), Thomaston (Thomaston Cafe), and Camden. We started everyday with coffee on the porch and drank a glass of wine on "swim rock" every night. The first thing we did when we got back home to NY, was book it again for 2013! Can't wait to be back.
