We enjoyed a wonderful 10 days here in September 2011, the photos really do not do justice to this little gem. On arrival we were warmly welcomed by Barbara, the lovely owner who could not be more hospitable. The little villa, right in the heart of the town, is perfection, the outside is so pretty with a lovely wisteria growing over it and the inside is decorated beautifully in true Tuscan style, with excellent facilities and is very clean and comfortable. Everything has been thought of-Barbara has even provided lovely books on photography and art and suggested local walks. We stayed in the villa downstairs and the views from the little terrace over the olive grove and towards the hills are wonderful. We so enjoyed eating out on the terrace, it is very romantic and totally tranquil. The peaceful little town is beautiful with amazing views for miles over the surrounding countryside. We enjoyed walking locally and exploring other local hill towns. This is the real Tuscany, the scenery is stunning and it is a thoroughly civilised and relaxing place to be. We enjoyed cooking Italian style during our stay but there are excellent local restaurants in the town too within walking distance of the villa. I would thoroughly recommend this villa, it is a real get away from the hustle and bustle and it is a true gem. Thank you Barbara for a wonderful holiday and we look forward to returning again soon.Recommended for: Sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+.

We strongly recommend both the Maribelle and the village of Monticchiello. After a week in Florence it was a perfect base for touring Tuscan towns and countryside. Every place of interest was within an hour’s drive, with many places closer. We took easy day trips to Montepulciano, Pienza, Sienna, Montalcino and Assisi. Three of us stayed in Maribelle I, with its two bedrooms and two baths. The rooms were attractive and spacious. We appreciated the well-equipped kitchen and dining table where we could have a comfortable breakfast and ended up cooking a couple of evening meals. We ate, twice each, at the La Portia and the Cantina restaurants in the village. Both were terrific, and it was great to be able to just walk back to our apartment. The town is beautifully mediaeval with few tourist trappings. The wine tour of Santa Anna is highly recommended. Barbara was a charming and gracious hostess. We could not have picked a better place for our stay.Recommended for: Sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, adventure seekers.

The apartment is as advertized but nicer in all respects. The Owner Barbara was very nice and is able to communicate effectively in english. The apartment is contigous with other buildings that forms a square, very quaint and medieval feel to it except with the modern vehicles. The town of monitcheillo is very small with a small bar/tavern for light snacks and a osteria(between a cafe and full blown rstaurant)tat serves traditonal Tuscan food, right in front of the main view high point . Very picturesque in the day nd especially at dust sunset over the mountain range behind Pienza. There is no clothes dryer but a big drying rack in the private rear garden. The tub on the main floor is tight but i was able to fit in it(6'3" tall) but there is no shower curtain so you have to be careful if you are using the handheld wand. Downstairs there is a large standing shower. If this is your first time in Tuscany, the landscape is beautiful when viewed from a high point which this town provides. Note that the roads are curvy with lots of sharp bends,Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, adventure seekers.

Our family had such a great time here!!! Barbara, the owner, was wonderful to rent from and so kind to help us with things we wanted to do. We have stayed in VRBO properties from Hawaii to Ireland and Barbara is really the best of the best. She is the kind of person we would enjoy as a friend if we lived there. Monticchiello was a joy to be in. We chose this area because of the Orcia Valley and wanting to be in the Tuscan country side away from the big cities. We found the village to be so enjoyable. The restaurant "La Porta", just inside the entrance to the village, is very popular, a reservation is recommended and has the best food of anywhere we ate in Italy. The residents have their own band and on two of the nights we walked through the streets and listened to them play. If you want to get away and explore the country side I don't think you will find a more enjoyable place to stay. Thanks for a great stay Barbara.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, adventure seekers.
