Any of the locals we spoke to in Bolinas all said the same, "How did you find Bolinas?" and we said it was pure luck, which is true. The place is lovely and I almost want to do the same as the locals do and keep it a secret, but one rental house isn't actually going to spoil the place, so I'll continue. The place Bolinas is beautiful, but not in a prettified way, it has a genuine laid back feeling to it, the beautiful beach with its palimpsest of graffiti seemingly dating back years and the surfers of all ages in the sea set against the stunning scenery. The house we stayed in, the one I'm reviewing was astounding, just so much better than we had expected. It is truly like staying in someone's home, very comfortable (I wanted to take the sofa home with me it was so comfortable) and homely, but also spacious and a good place to chill out after a day on the beach. The hot tub was fabulous and our two teenagers loved staying in the beach houses on the deck. We liked the Coast Cafe in town, though thought 20% service charge was a rip off, but eating in the house was no problem either and the barbecue on the upper deck was great. We loved the view of the sea from there and took home many happy memories of the place. The house is quirky but we loved it. We had a deer wander up to the kitchen door and hummingbirds regularly just feeding on the flowers in tubs near us.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.
