Enjoy the best of the Mayan Riviera and the Yucatan Peninsula. Come home to the comfort and charm of Casa Colel Luna (Lady Moon House)!

This spacious, five bedroom, five bath home is located in the secure, gated community of Playacar, less than two blocks from the clean white sands and warm turquoise waters of the Caribbean Sea. It's just a hop, skip, and cha-cha-cha to the friendly town of Playa del Carmen and the ferry to Cozumel (a 30 minute ride).

At Casa Colel Luna you can relax in your hammock and enjoy the cooling breeze and stunning views of ocean, sky, trees, and your next door neighbor - the ancient Mayan Ruin of Xaman Ha. Green lawns, bright flowers, and tall, shady trees surround Casa Colel Luna. A sparkling swimming pool and waterfalls provide refreshment for the senses (pool is shared with neighboring home, when rented). The garden area includes a magical river, gazebo, and patio with built-in BBQ grill and seating for up to 20 guests.

Casa Colel Luna offers many amenities, including satellite TV, DVD, stereo, all kitchen equipment and appliances including a microwave, washer and dryer, and A/C in 3 bedrooms. There is wheelchair accessibility on the ground floor.

The bed set up is follows: Master suite "Sirenas" (Mermaids): King bed, private bath with tub/shower. Penthouse suite "Estrella del Mar" (Star of the Sea): Queen bed and twin bed, private bath with shower and ocean view. Master suite "Girasol" (Sunflower): Queen bed, A/C, and private bath with tub/shower. Bedroom "Rosa": Double bed and A/C. Bedroom "Tigres" (Jaguars): Double bed and twin bed. This room is also air-conditioned. "Rosa" and "Tigres" share a bathroom with shower.

All rooms have terraces and are cooled by ocean breezes and ceiling fans. Pets will be considered--ask us! Maid service is provided three days a week (or more on request). There is an English-speaking manager to assist you and answer your questions. A wonderful cook is also available. We can also provide child care, grocery shopping assistance, wedding planning and airport transfer.

Our spectacular swimming pool (shared with our neighboring house) is designed as a miniature "cenote" (a natural freshwater pool), complete with waterfalls and two separate shallow play pools.

Casa Colel Luna is comfortable and spacious, ideal for families or groups of friends. We can accommodate large groups in our neighboring home as well. We are happy to provide additional information on our villas and activities in the area (including photos) on request.

A NOTE ABOUT THE "PLAYA": THE BEACH IS BACK! With help from the federal government, a massive beach-renewal project has restored and augmented our gorgeous beach from one end of Playa to the other. Previous guests will remember that storms had removed much of the sand over the last few years, leaving "pocket" beaches and little room for strolling and beachcombing. That has all changed! You can now walk from town all the way to the end of the Playacar hotel zone (about 2 miles) along the smooth sandy shore. Seeing is believing--so come on down and see for yourself!

Spacious Villa-Pool, Ocean View-Sleeps 10-Feb. Spec. $1800/wk.

Year Purchased: 1996

Why the Owner Chose Playacar

We bought the property in 1993 and built the home in 1996 when Playa del Carmen was a still a sleepy town off the tourist path. The location next to a Mayan ruin with a view of the sparkling Caribbean was just magical and irresistable--and it still is.

The Unique Benefits at this Villa

We love our beautiful beach--just a 1-minute walk away--with its fine white sand and warm, clear water. Playa is such a fun town, very laid back, but also sophisticated--with fabulous restaurants and great shoping and entertainment. We love exploring hidden beaches, cenotes, Mayan ruins, and remote villages. The diving and snorkeling spots are some of the best in the world and easily accessible. Staying home and relaxing in a hammock or floating in the pool with a cool Corona or margarita is pretty good too.

Owner's Map of Playacar

We are supposed to be retired but find ourselves busier than ever. We've been sharing our Playa del Carmen properties with satisfied guests since we built Casa Colel Luna in 1996. In 2001, we added Casa Balam y T'ul. Since then we've acquired a small coffee farm in Kona, Hawaii, so we are kept busy working on the farm, relaxing and exploring in the Yucatan, and being with family in Santa Cruz, California.

We keep coming back, year after year

Date of Stay: 02/02/08 Review Submitted: 08/23/08

We have been staying at Casa Colel Luna yearly for the better part of ten years, and it has improved in amenities each one of those years. The staff on site are accomodating, skilled and responsive to our needs. In fact we spent 5 weeks in the house in 2008, sharing each week with different friends and family and plan to do so again in 2009. The bedrooms are spacious and charmingly reflect local color and decor . It takes only minutes to walk to town or to the beach, and the kitchen and barbecue areas lend themselves to cooking and eating in , as well. After a hot day at the beach or shopping in town, we like to wind down in the natural pool, floating or sharing a cold drink together, before deciding where we should go to dinner in town. The pool is attached to the smaller house on the property, but available to both and we have always found it accessible to us. When our granddaughters were there last winter, it was almost impossible to get them out of the pool, and we appreciated that there was a wading pool area for the 3 year old to "swim" in. The concierge, Esperanza, is able to arrange for a local car and driver, should you want to tour local sites. She can also arrange for a private masseuse to come to the house to smooth out those muscles tired from snorkeling the reef at Akumal or climbing the ruins at Tulum. The real beauty of the house is its location, so close to town, to the beach and within a short drive to beaches, Mayan ruins and caves. It is also a spacious and comfortable house for a family vacation or a getaway with friends. You will enjoy your stay there, and I can recommend breakfast in the cool of the morning in the gazebo, so that you can watch the charming agoutis eating their breakfasts, as well (as long as you put something out for them to share).

Owner response:Wow! Gracias, amigos. Now we can't wait to get ourselves back to Playa!

Vacation Paradise

Wow! From all of us, we thank you for your wonderful vacation paradise. We had such a fun time, and staying in your home was just perfect. The home and grounds are so beautiful and secluded. The staff is so very accommodating and friendly. The meal prepared by Esperanza and her family was one of the highlights for all of us. Really, I could go on and on with kudos on our gathering. Best of all was the feeling of home, where we could gather for meals, cards, and lots of laughter. This was truly the best Christmas gift we could have shared with our family and friends. There were a few day trips, snorkeling and Tulum, but for the most part, we spent lots and lots of time on the beach. The waves and the sand provided hours of fun for all of us. Having towels, chairs and beach gear available was an added bonus so we didn't have to pack or buy those items. Again thank you so much.

A memorable vacation

Ten of us just returned from a week’s stay in Casa Co’lel Luna. It was oh-so-very-wonderful! Thank you for sharing your piece of Paradise with us. The home is beautiful, warm, cozy, clean, comfortable -- and we all loved “our” house-gato, Nani (and probably over-fed her, too). Your staff there are delightful, friendly, and helpful people. Esperanza and Alex and Belem cooked us a most delicious dinner which we devoured most of that night, and the rest the next day. Esperanza was most helpful arranging transportation for us both to and from the airport at Cancun. She also checked in each day and went out of her way to help us. Maria Cruz, our housekeeper, was a delightful soul who cleaned the house thoroughly each time she was there. We enjoyed her creative towel origami/artwork, too. It was a memorable vacation for each of us. We know that we picked the right place for our very special trip to Mexico. Thanks so much for everything!

Thank you so much for the comfort of your home. It was a perfect setting for our family, especially the grandchildren. The proximity to the beach and shopping was very handy. Esperanza was always available for suggestions and was always gracious. Our visits to Tulum, Xcaret, and the cenotes were all memorable.

We had such an incredible stay at Casa Colel Luna. It is so beautiful and so peaceful here. The location is superb! It was such a greeat time for all my family who came down for my son's wedding. Everyone had there own space which we were all grateful for. A special thanks to Esperanza for all of her help, and to Alex and the rest of their family. The last night we were there we had a party of 18 for dinner and Esperanza and her family made a delicious meal. Thay made it feel like home. Thanks again and see you again!

The house was amazing. Everything was very clean and the housekeepers were friendly and quick. The house is also very close to 5th Ave and the city of Playa del Carmen (within 5 minutes walk.) Also, you have beach access literally a minute away and the house comes with beach chairs and umbrellas and even a cooler to bring down. There is plenty of room in every bedroom, no one ends up sleeping in a living area. In summary, the house is very nice and affordable.

A group of 7 ladies rented this house for a week in January of 2009. It was the perfect spot for hanging out, walking into town to shop and eat or walking down to the beach. Esperanza was fabulous and even arranged for a massuese to come and provide massages for those interested in making an appointment. I'll be looking to book this house again!

January Trip

Guest: LargeParty (Minnesota)
Date of Stay: 01/01/08 Review Submitted: 01/15/08

The house was amazing. Everything was very clean and the housekeepers were friendly and quick. I'll start with the bads and end with the goods. First off, there is not a pool at this location. You do have access to the neighbors pool, but it is small and a bit awkward if you don't know them. Secondly, we had trouble initially with things like the internet and the stereo but Esperanza had them fixed within three days. Now on to the goods: Like I said the house was clean. In summary, the house is very nice and affordable so long as you don't need a pool.

Owner response:We're pleased that this reviewer was happy with our house and staff. We rely on our great housekeepers and manager Esperanza to keep things running smoothly in our absence. We are a bit perplexed by the comments regarding the pool. The two villas have shared the pool for seven years, and this is the first time we've heard that our guests in Casa Co'lel Luna did not feel they could use it. To clarify the "shared pool" situation, we would like to mention: 1) Renters of both villas are made aware that the pool will be used by occupants of both houses (if both are rented). 2) To facilitate sharing of the pool (and because we are in a residential neighborhood), we have some basic "pool rules" regarding noise and horseplay and we limit pool-use hours (9AM to 10PM). 3) We have found our guests in general to be very friendly and open to sharing. Also, it turns out that folks are out a lot--at the beach, exploring, shopping, etc.--so the pool has a lot of "down time." In fact, some guests don't use the pool at all. 4) Consider that at a condo or hotel, one would be sharing with a lot more people! Over the years, feedback we've received from guests from both villas has been very positive in regards to the pool. To our potential visitors, we say "Come on in, el agua esta bonita!"
