Kohala Country Adventures Guesthouse is a "treasure" at the end of the rainbow. Uniquely situated on a hilltop, overlooking panoramic ocean, mountain, garden, pastoral views, your peaceful retreat is within a short walk to the charming quaint, historic town of Kapaau with it's famous original Statue of King Kamehameha, excellent shops, galleries, cafes and friendly people.
We are an easy drive to fabulous resorts, remote valleys, eco-tours, wilderness adventures, historical and cultural sites and activities, and our great diversity of tropical wonders: colorful rainforests,hidden waterfalls, sparkling beaches, gorgeous ocean and breathtaking mountain scenery.
Our comfortable rambling farmhouse on almost 11 acres of pastures, gardens and tropical fruit trees, offers you our spacious Sundeck Suite with its 365 degree views,. This hideaway is a charming apartment which sleeps from 1 to six in beds. The sleeping/living area is upstairs facing a magnificent deck overlooking the ocean and the island of Maui across our lovely pastures and tropical foliage. The Suite's private bathroom and gardenview kitchen are downstairs.
The Sundeck has the option of connecting to the Cozy Bedroom;the Cozy is often the choice of guests who wish to have a second ,private bedroom for children,grandparents, or friends vacationing together (sleeps1- 4) in addition to the Sundeck. It has the option of opening into the kitchen if the extra room is desired. It is a comfy place to rest after spending days exploring.
We also offer our delightful, intimate Garden Room, a separate unit from the Sundeck Suite,but nearby for family enjoyment,meals and the option of sharing the upstairs deck and kitchen. This room is a favorite of honeymooners, anniversary couples or those with a young child. All units have private entrances,private baths and beautiful views. We have hosted many happy families whove enjoyed the threee separate units combined toallow for a larger group.

Year Purchased: 1998
I have raised a large family in this house which evolved with 9 children,6 were adopted. We had many foster children as well. Finding myself raising my daughter, 9 years old in 1996, I decided to remodel and the existing farmhouse which could include three charming guest rooms,open for business in '98. Since I have been on the property since early 1974, we have lovely gardens,pastures, a lot of history and great aloha for and from our precious community . North Kohala is a piece of "heaven on earth" to most who experience it's treasures. I am an artist, and love the outdoors, and sharing our Aloha. Our home reflects creativity, inspiration, and a love of the people who've blessed our lives from all corners of the world.
Why the Owner Chose Kapaau
I've raised my family here since 1974. I wanted to bring up my children in a beautiful rural setting where they had to work hard to help grow some of our food,raise animals, grow in our Faith in God,learn self-reliance as well as teamwork, and enjoy Hawaii's diverse natural treasures. My husband and I adopted 6 children to add to our family of 5. When our multiracial family grew up,my youngest daughter and I decided to share our home to allow me to spend more time with her. All children are on their own now and I enjoy hosting others with families or those just wanting to get away by themselves and have a peaceful retreat.
We have shared our special corner of "paradise" with hundreds of wonderful people from all over the US and many parts of the world. This week we had a father daughter from Massachusetts; a honeymoon couple from India and France; and brothers and sisters with their fiancees from Switzerland! There were glorious beach and snorkeling trips, fun picnics,sunrise at Mauna Kea, horsebackriding,zipline thrills, hiking in Waipio and Pololu Valleys. One adventurous couple went on a a 10 hour hike into exciting Waimano Valley to camp for two days after pampering themselves by staying with us. Kapaau and Hawi have great places to eat casual local style,or gourmet. We'd be happy to help you plan memories to last a lifetime!
