This large cottage sits on the crest of a hill, amid meadows and woods, overlooking a cove and Frenchman Bay. A spacious deck off the rear of the house provides a wonderful gathering area, perfect for an outdoor lunch or a glass of wine with cheese before dinner.
The living room has a library, games, reading chairs, wood-burning fireplace, and dining area. A washer and dryer, and a pleasant breakfast nook, also occupy the first floor.
Upstairs finds a master suite overlooking the bay; a second bedroom with a double bed; a bathroom with shower; and a roomy bunk room ideal for children, with two bunk beds.
Walk down the hill and you will reach the large cove, where a boat can be moored and kayaks kept on shore. The bay waters feature remarkable clarity, fascinating sea life, and nearby islands open for exploring.
Also within walking distance is the town pool, spring-fed, with a sandy beach and sunbathing platform. The pool and tennis courts (in the village) can be accessed by buying a short-term membership. For golfers, a scenic, nine-hole course, Bonnie Blinks (which does not require membership), is about 1.5 miles away.
Freshwater lakes with sand beaches, and adjacent Schoodic Mountain, whose summit yields views of the Acadian coast, lie a 25 minute drive away. The steep climb and the fresh water often go well in succession!
An organic food movement has taken root in the area. You can have delivered daily fresh, organic produce and meats to your door, and roadside stands abound. For dining out, restaurants at Winter Harbor serve traditional Maine seafood dishes.
