Built in 1910, The Captain's Mansion on Fleming Street reflects the construction, style, and detail typical of the residences of US Naval captains who were based in Key West during the early part of the 20th century. Characterized by sweeping porches, 11-foot ceilings, ornate moldings, commodious rooms, Dade County pine walls and flooring, the house reflects the generous proportions and gracious living reminiscent of bygone days.
During the last two years, we renovated The Captain's Mansion and took great pride in restoring her historic grandeur while modernizing her to assure every convenience for ourselves and our guests.
In addition to a formal living and dining room, the Mansion has a spacious kitchen-family room with two sets of french doors leading to a large covered porch replete with wicker furniture for your comfort. The kitchen, which is truly a "chef's" kitchen equiped with professional appliances, and the adjacent bar area form the entertainment center of the house.
Steps from the porch lies the heated pool which is surrounged by a brick patio and planted with the flora of the Keys. There is also a bath and outdoor shower adjacent to the pool.
The house is located on Fleming Street, one of the most engaging streets of "Old Town" Key West. Yet the mansion is only four and a half blocks from the center of activity on Duval Street (but far enough to assure your tranquility) and three blocks from the waterfront boardwalks. |
