- Wheel chair accessible:Yes
Situated on approximately one and one-half acres of land, this double-gated magnificent estate is tucked away in the pinion and juniper-covered hills of the north side of Santa Fe. Vista Encantada, 'Enchanted View,' is only minutes from the Plaza. This 3400 square foot residence includes three separate portals containing an additional 1000 square feet of luxurious covered - outdoor space. The views from the portals are framed by the Sangre de Cristo Mountains.
Renowned architect, William Lumpkins expanded, and redesigned this old world adobe, which has appeared in Town and Country magazine. Vigas, cedar latilla ceilings, six kiva fireplaces, brick floors, and built-in bookshelves accent this four bedroom, three bath, formal dining room with seating for ten, and living room home. The interior is complimented with antiques, paintings and period Santos, creating an ambiance of warmth and quiet opulence. Entertain guests in this special residence, which exemplifies the essence of elegance and luxury.
The main dining room has three foot thick adobe walls. The view from the couch and two Mexican chairs in the bay window next to the intimate dining room table faces the backyard and is framed by the surrounding mountains. This magnificent room may well be your favorite place for fond memories on your vacation. You will love the art work here and in the living room.
One of the three portals is located next to the living room. It is decorated with all new furniture, as is all the furniture on the other portals and outside patios and grounds. This portal includes two large couches and four large chairs with seating for twelve people.
BBQ grill and swim outside by the pool and cabana while sipping on a beer or margarita. There is an umbrella covered table and new furniture here for relaxing on your vacation.
Too, on yet another outside portal, the one next to next to the backyard, listen to the enchanting sound of the small waterfall filled with goldfish. There is a dining table with seating for six on the covered portal. This portal also includes a couch and relaxing chairs. You have another BBQ here for preparing your favorite meals.
This wonderful property has all new outdoor furniture for seating over 40 guests. You may also enjoy the new front yard area, which includes a wandering path, covered by tree lit lights. Enjoy reading and relaxing while sipping on your favorite adult beverage.
The residence is located on a Dead End street, just off of the main semi-circle portion of Camino Del Norte. There are only four properties on this street. As a result, there is no traffic or noise. The peacefulness and serenity make all of the outside portals and garden areas perfect for relaxing and unwinding.
Walk around the property taking in the awesome vistas reminiscent of Tuscany - a world apart and yet deeply Santa Fe. Feel the serenity and seclusion of this truly unique home.
These unbelievable grounds and fabulous home will leave you with a lasting impression of this home and of Santa Fe.

My family and I spent 5 days in this house and could not have envisioned a nicer experience in Santa Fe. The pictures are nice, but wait until you see it in person. It's even better and the views are amazing. The house itself is very well maintained, clean and quite spacious with two sections of the home that allow for lots of privacy. The caretakers and Jim the owner were extremely attentive and helpful every step of the way. I highly recommend staying here if you have a larger group/family for a reunion or weekend get away - and even if it's just a few of you. I'll have wonderful memories of this house and hope to return to it one day.Recommended for: Girls getaway, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, age 55+.

This beautiful house, grounds and pool convince you that you are in Santa Fe. The collections of books, art and objects are fun to explore as the days go by. There are lots of dishes, flatware, linens and cooking supplies so it was easy for my extended family to cook and eat together. The caretakers were immediately responsive and very helpful. We'd recommend this wonderful place to anyone. One small caveat: the beds are not up to the rest of the place. Otherwise, it was just magical.Recommended for: Girls getaway, romantic getaway, families with young children, families with teenagers, pet owners, sightseeing, age 55+.

We enjoyed this old family home in Santa Fe very much. Contains an incredible collection from the lives of the owner and family over the last 65 years. It's very much like staying in a friends home. Nothing is spared. One feels very trusted in this home. The gardens are perfect and the manager is local and available. PLUS, 8 minutes from the opera via a little known shortcut. Good base for outdoor excursions as well as Santa Fe shopping. Try the Santa Fe Guiding Company, talk to Bob. North of the City with easy (2 min) access to 84 to points north. No negatives. Easily sleeps 6. Perfect for two couples, as we were.Recommended for: People with disabilities, girls getaway, romantic getaway, families with young children, tourists without a car, families with teenagers, pet owners, sightseeing, age 55+, adventure seekers.
Owner response: Hank, Thanks for the great review. Come back again and send your friends. Jim

Lovely. This meandering property reveals new treasures around every corner. Weather it is another lovely portico, or piece of art (often both), it is truly a delight to explore. We had a great time.Recommended for: Girls getaway, romantic getaway, age 55+.

I rented this house for a girls birthday celebration and it was perfect! The owner was easy to work with and the pictures were an accurate depiction of the house. There was plenty of room to spread out, and it was extremely quiet and peaceful but only a few minutes from town. I would definitely recommend this house and look forward to renting it again in the future.Recommended for: Girls getaway, romantic getaway, families with young children, families with teenagers, pet owners, sightseeing, age 55+, adventure seekers.

A beautiful, warm, and welcoming home, obviously well-lived in and well-loved. Eclectic mix of art and objects everywhere you look. The owner is charming and very helpful; we also were very pleased with the responsiveness of the local property manager on a couple of occasions when we had questions. Our party was 4 siblings plus two spouses. My husband & I had a master suite with private bathroom, and we were completely happy -- a very large room with seating for watching the large flat-screen TV, and I loved that the bathroom had a bureau for our clothes, a comfortable chair, and a closet -- everything we needed for getting ready in the morning conveniently right at hand. The bed was very comfortable. My siblings also reported sleeping very well. As other reviewers have noted, two of the bedrooms share a bathroom, and if you are in the farthest room, you have to come into the other bedroom in order to get to the shared bathroom. This was not a problem for us, but you would need to be aware of this when sorting out who is sleeping where. We were very pleased with the large common spaces -- huge living room, very large dining room with plenty of seating, large kitchen with a double refrigerator/freezer. My favorite thing about the house, though, was the large number of outdoor spaces with beautiful views, hummingbirds buzzing about, cool breezes, and comfortable lounging furniture. The portal off the entryway/dining room was my personal favorite, and I spent many hours there, eating, lounging, and reading. We ate a number of meals at the house -- all of our breakfasts, and we cooked several dinners there as well (the grill came in very handy!). As a foodie and someone who loves to cook, my wish list for the kitchen would include upgraded lighting, better chef's knives and cutting boards, and some new dish towels and pot holders. We certainly were able to do everything we needed to do, however. The kitchen supplies accommodate a large number of guests, and we never came close to running out of plates, glasses, silverware, etc. The location is stellar -- away from the hustle/bustle of downtown (yet just a short drive to the Plaza), it felt secluded and was very quiet. It was also very convenient when getting on the highway to Taos and going to the SF Opera. Our last dinner was at El Farol -- wonderful tapas dinner, and we recommend! All in all, a lovely and charming way to spend a week in Santa Fe, and I would do it again. 4.5 stars from me.Recommended for: Girls getaway, families with young children, families with teenagers, pet owners, sightseeing, age 55+.

My husband and I, our son and his wife, and my daughter, granddaughter and her friend spent a week in this home from 7/3/11 to 7/9/11. The layout of the sleeping areas was PERFECT---everybody had space to be alone to read or watch t.v., but there was room for everyone to gather together as we spent early mornings on the patio, days out and about, afternoons at the pool, and evenings back on the patio. Just lovely!!! ONLY reason I did not give it an "excellent" rating is because the home is in need of some deep cleaning.Recommended for: Girls getaway, families with teenagers.

Just returned from a week's stay which included family members to celebrate a birthday. Couldn't have asked for more (just maybe a TV in the main livingroom). So many nooks and crannies to "be alone"! The pool area is just lovely with a beautiful gazebo and plenty of seating space. The interior is a museum itself but not overwhelming. You can tell there are many, many memories kept in this space. The location is close to everything, even the airport. Patios all over the place to just relax. View is great and the landscaping well kept but not stiffly formal. No Bugs! Highly recommend for a quiet get-away! Plenty to do if you should want to go downtown, casinos, opera, restaurants. Enjoy!Recommended for: People with disabilities, girls getaway, families with young children, families with teenagers, pet owners, sightseeing, age 55+, adventure seekers.

Perfect for two couples. Lots of space, good location, quiet neighborhood, 10 minutes to Plaza. Front Master suite is very nice with private bathroom. The extremely large back Master suite with sitting area and kitchen is gorgeous but does not have a bathroom. Guests use the bathroom (shower only) in the small queen room next door. 4th bedroom is an office (twin beds) with private bath. Pool area is perfect for entertaining but all of the outdoor furniture needed to be cleaned. (probably done by now). The deep pool does not have a shallow area so is not recommended for young children. Kitchen is well stocked with nice dishes but pots and pans need to be replaced or scrubbed well. Because of adobe walls, internet service was intermittent.Recommended for: Girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing, age 55+.

Location
Owner info
Year Purchased: 1995
About the owner: I live and work in Dallas, Texas and am an Independent Oil & Gas Operator. My family has been in the Petroleum Industry for five generations in North Texas. We have also owned and operated oil and gas properties in New Mexico during this time. As a result, I have deep roots in New Mexico and in Santa Fe.
Why the Owner Chose Northeast:
This was my uncle's home third in a series of homes that he owned in Santa Fe. He bought this home in 1977. He spent one year remodeling and adding to the home, which also includes the addition of a swimming pool. I inherited it in 1995 and love visiting and working in Santa Fe. I also own commercial property in Santa Fe. My uncle also owned two other homes in Santa Fe, going back to 1950. Our family has owned large ranches in Las Vegas, New Mexico. As a result, I have a long history with New Mexico and enjoy it immensely. The home was again updated in the last 2 years. The warmth and character of the home has not been lost with these updates and additions to the grounds.
The Unique Benefits at this Chateau / Country House:
This is one of the most unique and charming homes in Santa Fe. Seven Noble Prize winners have eaten in the dinning room. Stanley and Linda Marcus used to spend New Year's Eve at our home. Many Santa Fe Opera, School of American Research and St. John College individuals have frequented the home over the years. The history and ambiance reflects and maintains the essence of a man who had a real impact on the heart and soul of this wonderful city. I am blessed to be a part of this tradition and enjoy sharing this home with others.
