Art and Charm - a union soundly built over time!

Lovely. This meandering property reveals new treasures around every corner. Weather it is another lovely portico, or piece of art (often both), it is truly a delight to explore. We had a great time.

Owner response:Allison, I appreciate your nice review and do hope that you return for another visit.

Girls birthday reunion

Guest: Stanley (Atlanta)
Date of Stay: 08/04/11 Review Submitted: 08/19/11

I rented this house for a girls birthday celebration and it was perfect! The owner was easy to work with and the pictures were an accurate depiction of the house. There was plenty of room to spread out, and it was extremely quiet and peaceful but only a few minutes from town. I would definitely recommend this house and look forward to renting it again in the future.

Lovely Property!

A beautiful, warm, and welcoming home, obviously well-lived in and well-loved. Eclectic mix of art and objects everywhere you look. The owner is charming and very helpful; we also were very pleased with the responsiveness of the local property manager on a couple of occasions when we had questions. Our party was 4 siblings plus two spouses. My husband & I had a master suite with private bathroom, and we were completely happy -- a very large room with seating for watching the large flat-screen TV, and I loved that the bathroom had a bureau for our clothes, a comfortable chair, and a closet -- everything we needed for getting ready in the morning conveniently right at hand. The bed was very comfortable. My siblings also reported sleeping very well. As other reviewers have noted, two of the bedrooms share a bathroom, and if you are in the farthest room, you have to come into the other bedroom in order to get to the shared bathroom. This was not a problem for us, but you would need to be aware of this when sorting out who is sleeping where. We were very pleased with the large common spaces -- huge living room, very large dining room with plenty of seating, large kitchen with a double refrigerator/freezer. My favorite thing about the house, though, was the large number of outdoor spaces with beautiful views, hummingbirds buzzing about, cool breezes, and comfortable lounging furniture. The portal off the entryway/dining room was my personal favorite, and I spent many hours there, eating, lounging, and reading. We ate a number of meals at the house -- all of our breakfasts, and we cooked several dinners there as well (the grill came in very handy!). As a foodie and someone who loves to cook, my wish list for the kitchen would include upgraded lighting, better chef's knives and cutting boards, and some new dish towels and pot holders. We certainly were able to do everything we needed to do, however. The kitchen supplies accommodate a large number of guests, and we never came close to running out of plates, glasses, silverware, etc. The location is stellar -- away from the hustle/bustle of downtown (yet just a short drive to the Plaza), it felt secluded and was very quiet. It was also very convenient when getting on the highway to Taos and going to the SF Opera. Our last dinner was at El Farol -- wonderful tapas dinner, and we recommend! All in all, a lovely and charming way to spend a week in Santa Fe, and I would do it again. 4.5 stars from me.

Excellent lay-out

My husband and I, our son and his wife, and my daughter, granddaughter and her friend spent a week in this home from 7/3/11 to 7/9/11. The layout of the sleeping areas was PERFECT---everybody had space to be alone to read or watch t.v., but there was room for everyone to gather together as we spent early mornings on the patio, days out and about, afternoons at the pool, and evenings back on the patio. Just lovely!!! ONLY reason I did not give it an "excellent" rating is because the home is in need of some deep cleaning.

WOW!

Just returned from a week's stay which included family members to celebrate a birthday. Couldn't have asked for more (just maybe a TV in the main livingroom). So many nooks and crannies to "be alone"! The pool area is just lovely with a beautiful gazebo and plenty of seating space. The interior is a museum itself but not overwhelming. You can tell there are many, many memories kept in this space. The location is close to everything, even the airport. Patios all over the place to just relax. View is great and the landscaping well kept but not stiffly formal. No Bugs! Highly recommend for a quiet get-away! Plenty to do if you should want to go downtown, casinos, opera, restaurants. Enjoy!

Beautifully Decorated

Date of Stay: 05/26/11 Review Submitted: 06/27/11

Perfect for two couples. Lots of space, good location, quiet neighborhood, 10 minutes to Plaza. Front Master suite is very nice with private bathroom. The extremely large back Master suite with sitting area and kitchen is gorgeous but does not have a bathroom. Guests use the bathroom (shower only) in the small queen room next door. 4th bedroom is an office (twin beds) with private bath. Pool area is perfect for entertaining but all of the outdoor furniture needed to be cleaned. (probably done by now). The deep pool does not have a shallow area so is not recommended for young children. Kitchen is well stocked with nice dishes but pots and pans need to be replaced or scrubbed well. Because of adobe walls, internet service was intermittent.

This home is full of character, and very Santa Fe. This home has been enlarged and improved over the years but has stayed true to its original territorial style. We really enjoyed our week's stay there recently and will definitely return the next time we need a rental. We especially enjoyed the wonderful portals with their views of the surrounding foothills and spacious grounds.

Charming home

This home more than lived up to its listing description. The owner, Jim, obviously takes great pride -- well deserved -- in this house and it shows in the decor, the grounds and the comfortable furnishings. There were 8 in our group -- including 3 kids ages 11,9 and 6 -- and everyone agreed that the home was very charming. The pool was a great boon for the kids, and the adults loved sitting on the patios drinking our morning coffee. The house is spacious yet has a cozy feel to it. It is up in the mountains, with lovely views and cool evenings, but only 10-15 minutes from most Santa Fe attractions. Supermarkets are also only a short drive away. We would happily return here if we ever have the opportunity to visit Santa Fe again with a group of 6-8 people, and we highly recommend it to anyone who wants a gracious, charming place to stay while in Santa Fe.

Great property for two families staying together and cooking

The listing accurately describes this lovely home and the secluded landscaped gardens surrounding it. The kitchen is very well set up for multiple cooks working together and the two refrigerators in the main kitchen made it easy to store ingredients and leftovers for 8. The dining room provided comfortable seating by all, and we enjoyed having breakfast in the several outdoor seating areas. Grocery stores such as Whole Foods and Trader Joe's are < 15 minutes drive away, as are excellent restaurants, many of which go out of their way to support the local farmer's market. The deep pool was a bonus, especially enjoyed by our children (12 and over). The owner and his local caretaker were both helpful with any questions we had before or during the rental.

A Great Property !!

Guest: Elizabeth G. (Austin, Texas)
Date of Stay: 03/14/10 Review Submitted: 03/25/10

We selected this property based on location and space - both inside and outside - and it was a great choice! There was plenty of room inside, including two master suites on opposite ends of the house - perfect for 2 families traveling together. The enclosed acre and a half property was great for the kids. Upon our arrival, there was a gorgeous snowfall, and the kids payed outside all day without us worrying about their safety. They had a blast! We felt as though we were in a private remote setting, yet we were 5 minutes from downtown. It was perfect! The house was clean and it was beautiful. Everything was in good working order. The owner took excellent care of us and was quick to respond from first contact to the end. He has a local caretaker, and both he and the owner were available and attentive. The proximity to the ski basin is great, and we had several fun and beautiful ski days! The home has terrific views of the surrounding mountains so we really enjoyed the snowfalls. We would definitely make a return trip to this property..... perhaps next time in warm weather so that we can enjoy that beautiful pool!

Our #1 Choice every year!

Guest: Loyal Visitors (Atlanta, GA)
Date of Stay: 08/13/09 Review Submitted: 08/31/09

My family and I found out about this gem through a friend, and boy are we glad we did! Our friends stayed at the home over Christmas and just raved about their experience staying there in Santa Fe. We heard so much about the house that we wondered if they had even made it off the premises to explore the surrounding area! The moment we pulled up in the circle driveway, we knew we made the right choice in opting to stay in an authentic local residence instead of a hotel on the town square. Real adobe, incredible landscaping, breathtaking views from 2 porches overlooking the mountains, room for entertaining friends, a good sized pool and tons of places for the kids to explore....you name it, this home had it! The owner knows to expect our family each fall-- kids and pets in tow!

Lovely home

Date of Stay: 07/11/08 Review Submitted: 07/22/08

This home is beautiful, very well and attractively furnished, well equipped, and in a lovely setting with a terrific view. It is very quiet. It is a 5-10 minute drive in to Santa Fe. This home was actually the best equipped we have ever rented, with TP, paper towels, big bottles of shampoo, laundry detergent. I was very appreciative that for the price we paid we did not need to go out and buy all of lifes little neccessities, as often is the case in rental houses. It was very clean. The owner was also very nice and came to solve a problem with the grill when it didn't work. He solved the problem and we grilled our food. The only reason I didn't give this house an excellent was that there were little things, here and there, that didn't work. The TV remote controls, a few burners on the stoves, a lightbulb missing in bathroom. We didn't feel like calling the owner over remote controls and lightbulbs, so we just didn't watch the DVD and I put on make-up in another room. I'm sure if we had called him he would have come fix any of these little problems. Hopefully he will for the next tenant. We did make him aware of them when we left.
