Paris - Quartier Martyrs - Wonderful 2 Bedroom Apartment
- Minimum stay:N/A
- Internet:Yes
- Pets allowed:No
- Wheel chair accessible:No
This fantastic 2-bedroom apartment is in Quartier Martyrs, a real French neighbourhood. It is a clean, well-equipped property, ideal for a young family and best of all it is, as the French might say, à deux pas from rue des Martyrs, of which the New York Times said in a recent article, there is no better place to rent an apartment and to pretend, even for a brief time, to live in Paris.
Actually, this is better than the other apartments, because in this apartment each of the two bedrooms is off the street and onto cool and quiet courtyard areas. A quiet night's sleep, the benefits cannot be overestimated!
The property is located at number 6 rue St Lazare, at the junction of rue St Lazare, rue des Martyrs and rue Notre-Dame de Lorette. If you stand at the bottom of rue des Martyrs and look North, you can see up to the basilica of Sacré Coeur, one of Paris’s most famous landmarks.
This apartment is right behind Notre-Dame de Lorette Metro station and within two minutes of leaving the front door, you can be on the platform on the number 12 Metro line.
The Metro is the fastest way of getting about the city, although the buses are also very good. Paris is small enough, that most of the time you can simply walk to almost wherever you want to go. To make it easy for you, I have walked the city and can tell you now that you can reach the apartment by walking downhill from Gare du Nord in around 15 minutes. You can also walk right to Galeries Lafayette on Boulevard Haussmann in 15 minutes and be at the Opéra Garnier in the same time. Of course, the other Grand Magasins of Paris are right nearby too. Once you are at the Opéra, it is not far to the Louvre and if you are at the Louvre, you could easily wander over the Seine and down into St Germain des Près.
You might stop off on the way to look in the many interesting little shops, cafés and bars on the way. You might spend your 15 minutes walking to the great brasserie Mollard for dinner. The Time Out guide for Paris has quite a few recommendations even closer to the apartment, including one Chez Jean, which is just two doors away.
Frankly, you may never wish to leave the ninth. It is a fantastic neighbourhood that wants for nothing. Traditional French boucheries, traiteurs, boulangeries and patisseries are all vying for your business, not to mention the bars, café's and restaurants. The area has its own website, which is in French only, a link which can be found on my main website for the property.
The double living and dining area is spacious and bright, with amenities including Wifi high speed internet, a 32 inch widescreen TV with digital channels including CNN and BBC, DVD player, and a stereo with CD Player, which plays mp3 CDs and has a special cable to connect in your iPod. Tucked in a corner is a proper desk for if you really need to work. The seating area contains leather club armchairs and a top grade sofa-bed that sleeps 2 and converts with no effort at all.
The dining table and chairs can seat six in comfort. After all, you will want to dine properly with all that great produce on your doorstep.

We are a family of 5 ( 2 adults and 3 young childs) and we had a wonderful stay in Paris. The apartment was good, with everything we needed, clean , everything worked and on a good location ( very close to the subway station and many places to buy food) The neighborhood was really cute. Thanks Paula for your warm welcome and hospitality.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, tourists without a car.

This is an excellent property and a great place for our month-long stay in Paris. The building is secure, the apartment is well-furnished and so clean. You will love the washer and dryer, and the full kitchen. Paula was a dream to deal with! The neighborhood offers many choices for food -- a convenient grocery store across the street, fresh food markets, and lots of places to buy take-out. The metro station is right across the street and there are several bus lines to take you anywhere in the city. This is the best apartment I have ever rented in Paris and would definitely recommend St. Lazare to anyone!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, families with young children, sightseeing, tourists without a car.

The flat was an excellent base from which to explore Paris. Very comfortable, elegantly furnished, and equipped with everything we needed. Although we pushed the sleeping space to the limits (our 3 children are large teenagers - we effectively had five adults staying there) we felt comfortable. The children were glad of the internet access (we travelled with a laptop). The location was perfect for moving around the city - on the "velib" bikes (two stations to pick these up just round the corner) or the metro (worth getting a "navigo" pass sorted out at the start of the week) or on foot. We loved the feel of the neighbourhood, and at the end of a full and exhausting day of sight-seeing, stepping off the street and into the courtyard at No 6 was a delight. Having a Shoppi supermarket over the road was extremely handy, and the bakery opposite it was lovely. In our dealings with both Paula, the agent, and with the owners we found them to be helpful and efficient. We would love to come again (perhaps when the £ recovers a bit against the euro!) and would definitely like to stay at the flat again.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 2/2

We stayed here with 4 children and LOVED the apartment! The apartment was VERY nice, roomy, and well kept. The owners and Paula were VERY accomodating with our late night arrival and Paula was SO helpful giving us specific bus, metro restaurant info - and even mailed us back our daughter's shoes that we'd forgotten! The metro was right out the front door and a grocery store was right behind - perfect. Highly recommend the rotisserie chicken across from the apartment, too! Loved the non-touristy area - French people are SO nice! We couldn't ask for a better Paris vacation! Would definitely stay in this apartment again!!Did you find this review helpful? We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this apartment - it is in a fantastic location close to the delights of the different food shops in rue des Martyrs. We particularly enjoyed staying in a non-touristy area. Very close to the Metro which was so convenient. The apartment is very well equipped and care for - Paula was particularly helpful and attentive during the reservation process and when we arrived. We have been to Paris a number of times and this will be our first choice next time we visit.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

This apartment has a very cool interior. Well positioned for the local Parisian scene, lots of wine, cheese and fruit selling on your door step. The agents also provide a high level of service. We brought our 18m old son, no problems at all. Would very much consider returning back to the very same apartment!!!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We really enjoyed our stay at this beautiful apartment. The neighbourhood is so convenient, the shops on Martyrs have everything we needed and more. A short (20 minute) walk to the Louvre, short train ride to other attractions. Sometimes we were quite happy to stay in our neighbourhood and live like Parisians! The apartment itself was clean, comfortable, larger than we expected, and well cared for. In summary, it was a great experience, and one we we would highly recommend to others. Looking forward to returning soon.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0
