Enjoy the Comforts of Home in Beautiful Santa Ana, Costa Rica!

The map lists it as "Santa Ana". The locals call it "Santana". As often as possible, we call it home! Our condominium is located in the beautiful town of Santa Ana, Costa Rica.
Santa Ana is a suburb of San Jose (the capitol of Costa Rica), and is located roughly 20 minutes from the center of the city, and 15 minutes from Juan Santamaria International Airport. We are located only one mile from the (new) freeway to the Pacific coast. This new toll road, finally completed in early 2010, makes the drive to the beach only an hour.
Our condominium is in a trendy and upscale community with a relaxed atmosphere and with all the modern conveniences. One of the country’s foremost residential estates, Valle del Sol, is located here, and the Valle del Sol golf course is only a 10 minute walk from our front door.
Nestled 10 minutes west of Escazu in the valley, we are very close to the world-class CIMA Hospital and Medical Tower. Costa Rica’s largest mall, the MultiPlaza, is also within close proximity, as is Price Smart and the modern office complexes of Plaza Roble and the Forum Office Parks (I & II). Forum houses offices for some of the best known companies in the world, including Oracle, Cisco, HP, and many others, and is literally walking distance from our condominium. See the link to Forum below for a complete listing of tenants.
A short drive north of Santa Ana will take you to the relaxing Ojo de Agua, a bathing resort which contains swimming pools and lakes formed by a natural spring.
While much of Santa Ana is modernized and property development is high, it still retains its local flavor. By day, you can visit the many shops selling hand-made ceramic goods to buy some local pottery or traditional goods, and by night you can dine in some of the finest restaurants and visit local bars and discos.
If you desire a true Costa Rican adventure, visit one of the many volcanoes or waterfalls the country has to offer. You may also take a trip to the Pacific coast and visit the beaches, especially those of Manuel Antonio National Park, where you will find a wealth of activities including the world famous 'zip line' canopy tours. All are accessible just a few hours' drive from our condominium, which makes a great home base for many of the adventures you will experience here. If you prefer to leave the driving to someone else, we highly recommend El Gallo Tours / Blue Sky Van Service, owned and operated by Alex Palma. Alex is an excellent, bi-lingual tour guide. Check out his web site at the link below, and don't forget to tell him 'Gringo Muy Importante' referred you!
Santa Ana is very popular with foreign expatriates and their families, and in combination with Escazu, has a huge number of stores, services, and facilities, as well as some of the best restaurants in the country. With its comfortable climate, superior highway access and close proximity to all things Costa Rican, Santa Ana is a fabulous place to call home!
*Our home is non-smoking, and though we love animals, pets are not allowed unless pre-approved due to HOA rules. The grounds are immaculate in this gated community and there is 24-hour security on duty.

We needed a place for five in the Santa Ana area and Chris's place was just perfect. The description and pictures gave us all the information we needed to make an informed choice and we weren't disappointed! Place was clean and nicely appointed - all the comforts of home. Wi Fi was a bit of a problem but easily fixed using Chris's detailed instruction. Local phone service is not up to some standards but we have been to Costa Rica before and know what to expect. Might want to get a local cel phone - perhaps from the car rental place - just in case. This gated community is well maintained and the "gate keepers" are pleasant and helpful. Never a moment of concern about our security. Pool area is really nice! Nearly everything you might want is close by - maybe not walking distance but close enough. And, a new Costco type store is being built about a hundred yards down the street. Should be a help. I would definitely recommend this lovely home to family and friends or anyone looking for a comfortable place to light in Costa Rica. Chris and Maureen are Great!Did you find this review helpful? We stayed for the entire month of February. It was a pleasure working with Chris. The condo was clean and very comfortable. All the necessary amenities were there. We did have a small problem with the internet connection, but it was resolved. The grocery store and restaurants were within walking distance. The neighbors were quiet and friendly. The car rental was a problem. My suggestion would be if you wished to rent a car make arrangements prior to your arrival. Cars seem to be at short in supply. Driving appears to be a challenge, but taxis are inexpensive. Tours were easy to arrange and tour operators were very helpful. My only suggestion is that if you plan a tour to Arenal and the hot springs, you may want to consider staying overnight. We enjoyed our stay in Costa Rica and would consider staying here again.Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, age 55+.

The review stating this condo was a disaster is just not true. We stayed a week and found little to complain about. The kitchen provided all we needed, the living room was comfortable, the master bedroom king bed was perfect and provided a good nights sleep. We were told of a couple of possible problems, the WiiFi needed occasional restarts of the lnksys and then worked fine. The master bath shower had instructions but despite that we never were able to get more than drops of cold water.....but no problem just go use the hall bath shower which worked without problem and provided plenty of hot water. What we did learn is that the two TV's do not have the same channels in English, three on the downstairs unit but go upstairs and there are seven which included CNN. The condo compound is difficult to find since C.R. has no street signs, everything is based on finding a landmark, with instructions on how many meters away. Once settled in we found 3 large supermarkets, lots of restaurants, all the services one needs. What is a problem is the car/truck traffic.....everywhere! Cannot drive into San Jose so we took the bus. Even the local road is a two lane main thoroughfare with constant traffic....looks like lots of use by the many offices located nearby (Costa Rica's Silicon Valley). Within a couple K is the new highway, #27, which goes to the Pacific coast. It's a two lane toll road with 3 pay stations to get to the Pacific. There is currently (January 2012) some highway repair which slows traffic but once completed should make the drive not much more than an hour to reach the ocean. Exclude Sunday travel, we waited in line 20 minutes to get through the first toll booth and finally just gave up!!! Would I recommend this place to a friend......depends on why the friend was visiting Costa Rica. The condo is fine but the location is not for those who want to wander about driving a car and exploring. We've been to over 90 countries, driving in many of them, and found the challenge of not knowing what street or road you're on and the traffic too demanding.Did you find this review helpful? We stayed a month. The place is falling apart. Chairs were broken upon arrival, windows falling out, screens falling off, shelves breaking , the internet worked only a week out of the month, cable is in and out, the pool is dirty and COLD, its 1km to the nearest store, And Most of all the People were UNFRIENDLY in the complex. I would never stay there again and would not recommend anyone to stay there. My wife put a small bottle of olive oil on a shelf above the stove. The shelf not being properly installed gave way and the bottle landed on and cracked the glass top. We offer to pay half but Chris wanted to us to pay ALL of it. He kept our security deposit and sent a nasty letter. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE TO A FRIEND!!!Owner response: I've never really appreciated the phrase 'No good deed goes unpunished', until now. I was contacted by a poor couple from Limon who desperately needed a place to stay in Santa Ana. They couldn’t find anything within their budget, so I agreed to rent to them at a substantial discount (incl. the sec. deposit) as they simply didn't have any $. They arrived 4 days early. I rushed my maid in to prep the condo, paying her extra. Luckily, my previous guests had just left. After a few days, the couple sent me a message thanking me for the generous discount on the rent and sec. deposit, and the early entrance. The message said (quoting), "Great place, jsut what we were hoping for. We were happy to here that we would be able to stay." Sadly, only a few days later, problems began. My neighbors were the first to complain about fighting and yelling coming from the condo. My property manager (pm) told me the couple had shattered the ceramic cooktop on the stove and damaged some windows. The next day I received a message from the couple (quoting) "We are really sorry about this. Let us now the best way to handel this." So, my pm began searching for a replacement cooktop. Unfortunately these parts in C.R. are not cheap! It turned out to be $400 (used). I contacted the couple and explained this to them, and asked them to respond how they would like to handle it. Despite repeated attempts to resolve the issue, they refused to discuss it, avoiding my pm and me. Sadly, their disruptive behavior continued, and my pm was contacted by the HOA, forcing her to ask security to visit the couple. The morning of their departure, the couple sent me a note. They demanded I refund the sec. deposit, threatening to further damage the condo if I did not. I told them that accepting $200 for $500 in damages was beyond fair, especially given the large discount on the rent and extra cost to clean the unit early. I then instructed my pm to escort them from the property. They did break some dishes and a chair prior to her arrival. You can see what happened next (the review posted here), leading to my statement about good deeds. I spoke to other owners about how to handle untruthful reviews (see my other reviews - all positive), and they suggested publishing this would help future guests understand the challenges faced by rental owners, and the reasons behind sec. deposits as a deterrent to the type of behavior exhibited by this couple. I hope you agree.

We had a fantastic time at this condo. Not only was it very centrally located and accessible to the main beach highway that connects San Jose to Puntarenas, but it is very close to supermarkets, banks, gas stations and plenty of restaurant opportunities without being in the main noisy highway. Chris took every step to ensure the renter is comfortable and well oriented, including shortcuts, local contacts and excellent advice. All descriptions are accurate. For families with small children or teenagers, this condo is perfect. The neighboors are respectful and friendly, and the security personnel very helpful and welcoming. We come to Costa Rica every year, and this is by far the best value we have found in San Jose.Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with young children, families with teenagers.

Santa Ana offers the ammenities of North America, and this condo is located close-by all the services you need on vacation or biz trips. I enjoyed our two week stay here, and the owners were prompt in responding to our needs. The guards were nice, and the neighbors quiet. We had a few concerns about the property being damaged by former renters, and we made some repairs and gave advice to the housekeeper on how to avoid this from happening again....all and all, we would stay here again and recommend it for others in need of two bedrooms, full kitchen, laundry and secure parking...the pool is nice, too!!!Recommended for: Sightseeing, girls getaway, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

I was in San Jose for business and this place was great. It is in a very safe neighborhood (gated community) and is very quiet. The apartment was spotless and well-maintained. The views from the rooms are stunning. The neighborhood of Santana is the nicest suburb in San Jose. We didn't have a car, so getting around via taxi was ok, as taxi's are cheap compared to other places, and the security guard would call a taxi for us. My only negatives were it would have been nice for the owner to leave dish soap and laundry soap for us to use. Other than that, I would highly recommend this place. The owner was quick to respond to emails and very helpful.Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, girls getaway, families with young children, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.
