Monarch is open and the snow is (finally) here!. Come and ski in the best powder in Colorado. We are particularly interested in renting the WEEK OF MARCH 24TH. ENQUIRE ABOUT OUR SPECIAL DEAL. No hidden costs make this place a great value for a weekend getaway. You can go mountain biking or hiking on all the new trails on S mountain all year around. The new North Backbone Trailhead is just 1.2 miles from the house. Over 3 miles of sweet singletrack, perfect for both biking and hiking, that connects with the rest of the ARKANSAS HILLS TRAIL SYSTEM (see link below, thanks to Salida Mountain Trails and Absolute Bikes). Exploring our attractive town is always fun. We, the owners (college professors), stay at our lovely Salida vacation home at least two months per year. That's how we know it is ready for your comfort, recreation and relaxation. The view from the 450 square foot deck is second to none and includes broad expanses of the Sangre de Cristo and Sawatch Mountain Ranges and the Continental Divide. Chaffee County has more 14,000 foot mountains than any county in the country. The ones visible from the deck include Mount Shavano (14,229’) and Mount Antero (14,269’). Many other snow-capped peaks are visible including Mount Ouray (13,973’).

The patio, just outside one bedroom, is a smaller, more intimate outdoor space. An ancient pinon pine provides shade and privacy. A lovely rock garden is a serene foreground to the spectacular backdrop of the Sangre de Cristo Mountain Range and Mount Ouray. This is also the view, through two floor to ceiling windows and a glass door, from the bed in this bedroom.

The main living area has an open floor plan and is furnished with a combination of new, very comfortable seating and antique heirlooms. The living room has four floor to ceiling windows, so one can enjoy the spectacular views in complete comfort. The two main bedrooms are separated by the living area and hallway.

Each has its own full bathroom, providing quiet and privacy for two couples or a family. The third bedroom doubles as the "electronics room." The WiFi router is there, as is a large TV with more then 50 channels via satellite and a DVD/VCR combo. This room also has a futon couch for viewing or sleeping. Needless to say, the view is magnificent through the large window.

The full kitchen has all amenities and opens on to the main living area. Immediately adjacent is the dining area, which easily seats six adults.

Why the Owner Chose Salida

No place else has Salida's combination of hiking, mountain biking, skiing and river running. The town is charming. The downtown area has many galleries and boutiques in historic buildings, but it is removed from routes 50 and 285. This gives it a quiet, off-the-beaten path feel. It's a privelege just existing in such a beautiful setting.

The Unique Benefits at this House

The best views in the valley from patio, deck and through floor to ceiling windows throughout the house.

Owner's Map of Salida

We are college professors at Mizzou (Biological Engineering, Special Education). The flexibility in our schedules and wireless access allow us to spend time in our Salida vacation home (VRBO 99827). That's why we know they are ready for your relaxation and enjoyment.

Sublime

The house was perfect. We loved the hummingbirds, they came in like little fighter pilots. They certainly had no fear of humans. The view from the front deck was wonderful. I personally enjoyed the one off the bedroom. One day we had some clouds come through, swirling around the peaks across the valley, giving us a light sprinkle, and a beautiful rainbow to the east. One night there was a muledeer in the yard, the wasn't really concerned about us. Any drive or walk you take is going to be scenic. Rent a jeep. If you're flatlanders like we are, bicycling may be a little ambitious. Overall, a Five Star Vacation. Thanks

Thanks so much for opening your home to us! The view from the sitting room and porch is indescribable, and we were very comfortable during our stay with everything we needed at hand. The drive to Monarch was easy, and of course the skiing was incredible. Thank you again!

Great location. We rafted, ziplined (lots of fun), played miniature golf, and ate at several very nice Salida restaurants. We also made day trips to the Royal Gorge and Great Sand Dunes; then sat out on the deck and enjoyed the quiet evenings and mornings. Just what we were looking for.
