Ocracoke Island is the 'jewel' of the Outer Banks. Located on the southern tip of the Cape Hatteras National Seashore, Ocracoke Island is only accessible by ferries from Hatteras and Mainland North Carolina. It's wide, unspoiled beaches have consistently been rated one of the 'TOP TEN' in the country year after year.
Ocracoke Island is 13 miles long with the only development at the southern end where the Harbor and Village of Ocracoke are located. There are 12 miles of undisturbed, undeveloped beaches. Pull your car over, climb over the dune, and you will probably be the only person in sight. If you have a four wheel drive vehicle enter the beach at designated ramps and pull right up to the water.
Ocracoke is rich in history, tradition, and culture. The famous pirate, Blackbeard made Ocracoke his home before he was killed in Ocracoke Inlet. Take a step back in time where there are no amusement parks, no movie theaters, one gas station, sand roads, no stop lights, two grocery stores, yet there is still so much to do. This island has some of the finest restaurants, pubs, and shops you will ever find on the Outerbanks.
Ocracoke is a place where you will leave the hectic pace of the city behind and get back in touch with your family and loved ones. Walk the beach for shells, take a swim without the crowds, go bike riding, fishing, visit the wild ponies, or just absorb the stunning sunsets and star studded skies.
This is a magical place, we know, we raised our children on Ocracoke vacations. A popular Ocracoke saying is 'If the world were to end tomorrow, those on Ocracoke wouldn't know for three days.'

We really enjoyed our stay at this property in Ocracoke. It was exactly as described and exactly as we'd hoped. The owners could not have been nicer. They were very helpful and accommodating. We loved the house and really enjoyed our off-season adventure in Ocracoke.Recommended for: Girls getaway, pet owners, families with young children, sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers, tourists without a car, adventure seekers, romantic getaway.
Owner response: Hi Barbara & Family, So glad our home worked out so well for you. Yes, Ocracoke is a special place, even in the off-season. Wondering if you rented a golf cart and how that worked for you? Thanks for taking the time to write a review. Our best to you and yours' this upcoming holiday season. Warm Regards, Sherry & Joe

Arrived via the Swan Quarter ferry into the beautiful harbor of Silver Lake in Ocracoke. Drove through the little village and quickly found the real estate office to checkin and get a key for our rental. The house was great! Clean, comfortable, spacious enough for 2 adults and 5 teenagers! Well stocked kitchen, lots of room to get out of each others way. Boys spent much of the time either fishing from the beach or out on a charter with the Drumstick crew (these guys are the best!). Cooked lots of fish and hush puppies, but also experienced the dining scene of the island. Wonderful romantic dinner with my hubby at the Back Porch. Great food, wonderful waitstaff. Tucked away in a little corner on their screened in porch overlooking the garden. Perfect! Wandered down to the waterfront afterwards to listen to some live music at the Dajio and then over to little ice cream stand for dessert. Great breakfast at Dajio with my girls one morning, Manchego cheese omelet can't get much better! Couple dinners at Howard's Pub that were consistently good. Have to admit, this place serves a heck of a lot of meals in one evening but can keep up with a yummy consistent product each time! Tried to eat pizza from Ocracoke Island Pizza but think they must be out of business, always closed and not answer on the tele. Instead picked up pizza from Jason's and it was great. Fig Tree bakery provided some delicious pastries for breakfast. Stop in there if you like candy because they stock an incredible variety in an old time candy shop kind of way! Wanted a meal down on the water and the only real choice was The Jolly Rogers. Nice view, beautiful day, but the wait was a little long and the fish taco was so so. Let's just say for such a tiny island there are so many great places to fill your belly! Such a great, memorable vacation. The beaches are beautiful, but be cautious, the riptide can be pretty strong. Sad to see the wild ponies no longer roaming freely (they are kept in a small pen off of the main highway), but as with everything is animals become a nuisance we as humans are not very tolerable. Bring a bike but beware, even though bikes are encouraged as the main mode of travel, many people choose to drive their cars and gold carts. The island is loaded with talented artists. Stop in the shops, incredible jewelry. Don't miss Bella Flore ( think that was the name, right by Blackbeard's Lodge) really beautiful stuff and so nice, and Island ArtworksRecommended for: Girls getaway, pet owners, families with young children, sightseeing, families with teenagers, tourists without a car, adventure seekers, romantic getaway.

Our stay at Lookout was great. The house was clean and well equipted. One minor plumbing problem was taken care of efficiently and speedily by maintenance. The location suited us well, with many great walking routes nearby. We rented a golf cart for the week and that added to our sightseeing and overall enjoyment. We cooked all our meals in and loved eating out on the porch. The ceiling fans kept us cool and the bugs away.Recommended for: Girls getaway, families with teenagers, tourists without a car.
Owner response: Mary, So glad to hear our home worked so well for your family. Yes our location is good for a morning bike ride or walk to the coffee shop or down to the village. Golf cart and bike rentals are a great way to sightsee and go into the Village for a bite to eat and do a little shopping. Thank you for taking time for the review and of course for selecting our home. Regards, Sherry & Joe

My family and I stayed at this house the week after Easter, 2008. When we got off the ferry, it was 70. Went to an awesome fundraising concert that Sat. evening. So much talent. The house was perfect for our group. Nice large, sitting dining area. Very large screen porch with a picnic table, swing, and chairs. I worried we would be too far to walk to town, but the kids walked up there often. The day I took my bike back, I walked from the museum to Sweet Tooth (great soft serve) and then back to the house. Everything was very comfortable and we felt right at home. One of the most relaxing vacations I have had and I took three teenage boys with me. They had a blast riding bikes, walking around, flying kites, playing frisbee, and they truly (to their surprise) enjoyed the concert too. Ihad fun reading, visiting Books To Be Read, taking nature walks, and just relaxing. One day we went to the bead shop and one of my son's made me a lovely bracelet. The other one made earrings for his girlfriend. I want to come back each Easter vacation. I don't think we could have found a better house for our family.Did you find this review helpful?
