# 58258 Maalaea, Central Maui, Maui, Hawaii, USA, 2 BR, 2 BA, CONDO

Special for Aug 160 a nt. Beautiful Ocean front condo!

Living it up in this Maui Ocean Front Condo!

Living it up in this Maui Ocean Front Condo!

07/29/2010 - I love Maui and enjoyed staying at this condo in Maalaea! It is beautifully decorated with lots of island knickknacks and pictures. The condo had plenty of room for family or friends with two bedrooms to spread out in. You'll find the view from the balcony is simply breathtaking, particularly when the sun is going down.

Maalea is a little town situated around the harbor of Maalaea where you can catch any number of sea excursions – snorkeling, fishing, whale watching, dinner cruises or pretty much anything to do with the sea. There’s also an aquarium to visit and several restaurants and bars, all within walking distance. Even better, the condo is located at the end of Sugar Beach, which stretches for miles between Maalaea and Kekei. If you can’t find solitude on that beach you didn’t look very hard because much of it is unvisited. I took a long walk along the beach and once I got past a couple of hotels and condo complexes I had the beach almost completely to myself. The area is quiet and peaceful, a great place to get away and unwind. But it’s also centrally located so it’s very close to all of the attractions you’d want to see on Maui. We drove up the volcano and along the Road to Hana and also to a walk to the harbor for a snorkeling trip to Molokini - a small crater and marine reserve just off the coast. One night we walked just a few doors down and ate at the highly rated Waterfront Restaurant. It was all so close!

The owner was gracious and helpful, providing links and phone numbers for local restaurants and tours after asking me what I might like to do and even suggested a couple I hadn’t thought of. I had a fabulous time in Maui, especially in this wonderful ocean front condo!

Great master bedroom balcony view of Breckenridge Blue River Area

07/28/2010 - Breckenridge has always been one of my favorite places to visit in Colorado and this trip did not disappoint!! Driving through town and up the dirt road, my eyes caught the magnificent house just to the right of me. I walked up to the door and right in front are gorgeous flowers including a red Columbine! I knew then, that this was a place unlike anything else. The house was very open, beautifully decorated, well taken care of and the view right out the living room was amazing!! I sat in the leather recliners a lot of my weekend just gazing out the window. In the master bedroom there is a balcony and the view from there was always inviting when I would wake up in the morning! The sun spilled through the windows and the doors as I stepped out and saw a magnificent view! You can not beat the views from this house!

This place feels like a home - warm and welcoming. Every room was comfortable and the kitchen was my favorite! The hot tub was the perfect setting to stargaze and the back deck was great to sit on in the morning while enjoying a cup of coffee. From the moment I walked in to the time I left I was wonderfully surprised at how great of a place this was.

If you plan to visit Breckenridge - bring the whole family. You'll have plenty of room for a large group and enjoy staying in this great mountain home.

07/28/2010 - Stepping into Villa Bougainvillea is truly an escape into paradise. The most amazing features of this home were the breathtaking views from the infinity edge pool overlooking the ocean. The view was spectacular whether eating at the kitchen table, relaxing on the couch or staring out from the super comfortable patio furniture. Not to mention, just as enjoyable from the pool!

The master bedroom is extremely spacious with a bamboo ceiling and huge walk-in closet. The master bath gives access directly to the pool as well as a unique outdoor shower, with of course more magnificent views.

I felt right at home from the moment I stepped into Villa Bougainvillea. The décor and furnishings were authentic and comfortable so that I could truly relax on this vacation. The kitchen was extremely spacious with all the high end appliances one could need – there was even a wine fridge and a grill. With custom lighting I was able to choose the ambience I wanted depending on the mood.

The beach is a perfect 5 minute walk from the house and when I felt adventurous, there were many other beaches to discover nearby as well. There are many adventures to be had in Costa Rica and Villa Bougainvillea is the perfect home to unwind and relax before and after a day of exploring and on the beach.

Dining with a view of Aspen Mountain

07/22/2010 - My friends and I couldn't wait for our weekend getaway in Aspen. This lovely condo, the Penthouse in the beautifully preserved historic Brand Building definitely exceeded our expectations. You will be equally impressed when you step into this elegant and tastefully decorated condo. The magnificent views will take your breath away as you gaze out the oversized windows soaking up the view of Aspen (Ajax) Mountain from virtually anywhere in this beautiful condo.

The layout is unique, with comfortable beds and full bathrooms with sunken tubs (bear sized). The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you will need for dining in. It was a treat to barbeque from the rooftop, star gaze and listen to the live music playing on the streets below. With such a great location in the center of town, you won’t need the car. Our gracious owner gave us recommendations for a fun filled, yet relaxing weekend.

Aspen itself is full of the charm and character you’ll want to experience for yourself. It’s an ideal place for an adventurous bear like myself, who loves the outdoors. You won't want to miss a walk or bike ride along the Roaring Fork River and see amazing views of the lush foliage and wildlife. While hiking is plentiful, if you aren't up for the climb, a scenic gondola ride is a favorite alternative. The streets of Aspen, lined with red brick and an array of beautiful trees, display historical buildings where you will find shops from eclectic to couture. Restaurants are plentiful here where Aspen is known for its world-class cuisine. You will also enjoy a diverse mix of entertainment on virtually every block, including music and art displays.

While our summer vacation experience was superb, Aspen’s skiing and winter activities make it a wonderful year-round destination. We treasured our time in this lovely downtown Aspen condo and are sure that you will find the same.

Dining at this great beachfront Gulf Coast condo

07/07/2010 - The best word to describe this beachfront Mayan Princess condo is "impressive." Perhaps I should start with my favorite feature, the Jacuzzi bathtub. This bathtub is enormous – you have to walk up a couple of steps just to get into it, and the tub itself is the size of a small bathroom. Push a button on the wall, and the jets soothe away any stress you may have been feeling before you arrived. The condo itself was huge for a one bedroom and the well-placed mirrors everywhere made it seem that much bigger. The condo was furnished and decorated well, from the very cool hardwood ceiling to the rustic armoire and dining table to the plush leather couch that you’re likely to fall asleep on if you’re not careful. The kitchen is fully loaded with cooking utensils, pots and pans, and everything you would find in your own kitchen.

Step outside to watch the sunset on an oversized balcony that overlooks 3 stunning pools and are just steps away from the Port Aransas shoreline. One nice surprise for us in the condo was beach toys – funnoodles and boogie boards ready for some fun in the sun. The condo's owners provide charcoal for the grills by the pool. In short, if you’re headed down to Port Aransas, look no further. This place is great! I cannot wait to return.

Relaxing stay at this beach front condo in Corpus Christi

07/07/2010 - The Vista Del Sol condo is all about location. It sits just 3-5 minutes from all that is Corpus Christi. Take a short ride over the bay bridge and you are downtown, or aboard the USS Lexington (also visible from the balcony), or check out the wonder at the Aquarium. If you are looking to go to the beach, just walk downstairs and you’re there!

What makes this condo stand out in the complex is that it one of just a few that has a balcony with a beach view. Inside you’ll find everything you need to enjoy a little R & R with a fully stocked kitchen and large, comfy bed in the bedroom. I’m really picky about pillows and take it from me, these are great pillows. I particularly enjoyed the flat screen on the wall in the living room that could be turned toward the balcony so you can watch your favorite show while out in the sun. This place is perfect for a couple looking for a beach front condo in the heart of Corpus Christi.

07/06/2010 - What an unforgettable stay! The unit was perfectly situated on the third floor at the bend of the tidelands providing optimal views in both directions as far as you can see. It was really nice to know I was in the city with nearby conveniences and yet find myself in a private oasis with water views and no buildings across the way. Light, cool breezes carried throughout the unit making the atmosphere very relaxing. Skylights & vaulted ceilings created a bright and open feeling as well.

I was delighted to discover the dream bed for any bear. At the push of a button, the mattress could go from too hard or too soft, to just right with the Sleep Number 5000 in the master bedroom. It had head and foot massage options too! The kitchen was fully upgraded and well-equipped for your every cooking need. Breakfast was enjoyed on the balcony with the lovely views as morning kayakers passed by.

Venturing to downtown San Francisco across the Golden Gate Bridge was a short 10 mile drive away. It was a true delight to explore the shops on Pier 39, visit the seals, and take photos of Alcatraz across the bay. I also got to boogie with my bear self in the tiki themed restaurant in the Fairmont Hotel called the Tonga Room. It was an unforgettable visit to Larkspur, CA with endless options for relaxation and entertainment!

07/06/2010 - When I arrived at the gate to this beach community, my friends and I were greeted warmly by security staff. Upon entering the second story home, we were immediately drawn to the sweeping ocean views from the picture windows. The soothing sound of ocean waves lulled me into “vacation mode” immediately, and the spacious great room overlooking the Pacific Ocean made it easy for us to put our feet up and unwind in the lap of luxury.

The private beach directly below was the perfect setting for a relaxing day with friends and young cubs. The fire pit was a particular favorite in the evening for sharing laughs, yummy smores and beary scary stories. At the end of the day, it was nice to unwind in a more luxurious setting while still having the full beach experience from the comfort of the living room and large balcony. The expansive balcony provided the perfect setting for our barbeque dinner. There was also a large dining room table available for us to gather around while we enjoyed our meal and watched the sailboats on the horizon.

Adding to this impressive property was the size of the home: four well-appointed bedrooms and three bathrooms. There was certainly enough personal space to satisfy any bear’s dream vacation. This beach vacation was unforgettable and I look forward to visiting Capistrano Beach, CA again soon!

07/02/2010 - Grand Adventures in the Breathtaking Wine Country of Sonoma, CA

The drive to Brambleberry in Sonoma, CA was breathtaking and beautiful as we passed vineyard after vineyard. Upon my arrival, I was greeted warmly by the owner who took the time to acquaint me with all the amenities this property has to offer.

Brambleberry was the perfect getaway for our entire bear family. The solar heated pool, custom stone hot tub, outdoor shower with hot & cold water, ping pong table, hammock, porch swing and multiple tree swings provided us with endless fun. The owner also mentioned that a bocce ball court is being prepared for future guest enjoyment. There was outdoor patio seating for coffee in the morning and a picnic table with ample seating for lunches in the afternoon. There were movies, music and games for all ages. The owner also provides two pak-n-plays and a baby monitor for those young cubs that come to stay.

The wine country in Sonoma, CA was more beautiful than I imagined. We toured the Benziger Vineyards and the cool wine caves where the wine barrels are stored. We also had a chance to visit Imagery Vineyards near Arrowood all within 10 miles of the Brambleberry property. We found it very convenient that most of the vineyards were easy to locate off the main highway through town.

You have Santa Rosa, Calistoga, 12 vineyards, many dining options, the only Petrified Forest in CA, and so much more within 15 miles of this amazing rental property. Come and see for yourself all the beauty and adventure Brambleberry & Sonoma, CA has to offer!

07/02/2010 - Ahh, rest and relaxation! I had the opportunity to stay in the Summerwind Cabin, located in Island Park, ID. Island Park is a great destination near Yellowstone National Park for everything from hiking and fishing, to snowmobiling and cross country skiing.

Summerwind Cabin had everything a bear needs for a great vacation. It is a quiet location among a forest of pine trees, within walking distance to the Island Park Reservoir. The cabin is very spacious and includes a full kitchen, comfortable living room, laundry room, 2 bathrooms, and enough beds for the whole family. The deck is a huge plus with dining table and hot tub for hours of outdoor enjoyment. The cabin even comes with a canoe to take out on the water. For those who want to stay indoors, the TV offers dozens of channels.

If you’re feeling adventurous, head out on the nearby ATV trails, go for a hike to Mesa Falls, or spend a day boating and fishing at Henry’s Lake State Park just a few miles away. My favorite part of the trip was the close proximity to West Yellowstone and the national park, so I could easily go visit my wildlife kin. Island Park is the perfect home base for exploring the park because you can return to peace and quiet after a day at the popular tourist spots like Old Faithful.

Thank you Summerwind Cabin for an enjoyable and relaxing stay!

06/29/2010 - This gorgeous and very spacious cabin sits at the edge of a forest. Imagine my delight! In addition to the porch swings at either end of the front porch, there was also a tree swing for the young ones.

Inside, I found everything in perfect order for some much needed pampering. The beds were extremely comfortable, and the couch provided a cozy place to play board games around the table. To unwind at the end of the day, a hot soak by candlelight in the claw foot tub was perfect! If you make prior arrangements with the owners, you can also use the two-person hot tub. A door from the master suite opens directly onto the deck where the hot tub is located.

From the high-end bathroom fixtures to the well-appointed kitchen, I had everything needed to stay indoors for the entire weekend. However, being so close to the great Rocky Mountains, that wasn’t an option for me! I ventured into Estes Park a few times for dining and strolling and shopping. I also took a “ghost tour” of the famous Stanley Hotel and learned a lot about its grand history.

The owners were helpful and very kind.

Ah! The views from this beautiful Oceanside beachfront condo!

06/29/2010 - I just returned from an incredibly relaxing stay in this beachfront property in Oceanside, CA. From the moment I entered through the beveled door, I knew I was in for a luxurious vacation experience.

The well-equipped kitchen, with granite countertops and a spacious island with plenty of seating, was really impressive. As I explored further, the ocean view from the dining area and living room was incredible. The unobstructed view of the Pacific Ocean from the outdoor deck was also magnificent!

The 5 well-appointed bedrooms and comfy window seats made it an excellent choice for our bear reunion. My favorite bedroom was the one nearest to the ocean where I was lulled to sleep by the crashing waves.

The highlight of this luxurious condo was the living room’s oversized window seat overlooking the ocean. From there the entire family enjoyed breathtaking sunsets (and bear naps!) and we were thrilled to see dolphins jumping over the ocean waves at dawn and at dusk.

We spent memorable days on the sandy beach that was mere steps away, and we spent the cool summer evenings just relaxing in the condo’s private hot tub looking up at the clear night sky.

Our whole bear clan is already looking forward to another visit to this paradise beach condo.

06/24/2010 - I just returned from a wonderful visit to beautiful Dillon, CO. Dillon is a picturesque mountain town nestled on the shore of Dillon Reservoir, a Colorado gem well worth visiting. In the summer you can boat, fish, bicycle, hike and take in the many other activities in the area. In the winter you can ski, snowboard, snowmobile or snowshoe in the brisk winter air.

This house is spacious, inviting with all of the amenities and a charming western flair in the furnishings. From the deck there is a gorgeous view of the mountains. It was a short walk to the lake where I fished for trout. I couldn't wait to get back to the house and fire up the gas grill to have fresh fish for supper. Yum! After dinner my fiends and I went downstairs and had a great time playing air hockey and foosball in the rec room.

The next day we went shopping in the many stores in Dillon and took a stroll along the lakeside. There was even a free concert in the amphitheater along the lakeshore path.

The owners were gracious and helpful, even calling the first night to make sure everything was in order and going well. I had a fabulous time at this property and look forward to going back again!

06/16/2010 - I just got back from another great weekend in Austin – I love that city, there’s always so much fun to be had! The Green Door is in Travis Heights, a charming, quiet, centrally-located neighborhood about 8 blocks from funky SoCo – a perfect location to experience the first fruits of Austin. The home has attractive curb appeal with a wrap around front porch and two comfortable chairs to relax in and enjoy the view amidst huge historic oak trees.

This contemporary home has an open floor plan with new furnishing throughout. The comfortable modern couch in the living room seats 4 adults easily (the oversized, long hair pillow was my favorite). Cool concrete floors throughout the home keep the temperatures pleasant during the hot summer. I enjoyed watching the NBA Finals on the HD flat screen TV.

The open kitchen has clean, crisp white counters and is well equipped with all new appliances, plenty of glassware, dishes, pots and pans, and coffee maker – all the necessary items to prepare a home cooked meal. The refrigerator was pre-stocked for me with a six-pack of assorted local beers and the fresh flowers were a great touch. Right outside the sliding kitchen door was the gas barbeque, perfect for grilling fresh Salmon I bought from the Whole Foods Global Headquarters just 2.5 miles away. You can use one of the classic cruiser bikes that comes with the rental!

The shower/tub has a rain head faucet – I loved that. The towels are new and soft – probably thanks to my distant relative, The Snuggle Bear. Both beds were very comfortable with great pillows. The walk-in master closet is spacious and could easily double as a babies sleeping room; plenty of wooden hangers are available in both closets.

The Green Door is hands-down a regular favorite of mine to recommend for a weekend or week-long stay for one to two couples, or a small family. The owners have thought of every detail. They even went above and beyond to make sure I enjoyed my stay and even before my visit they were attentive and easy to contact during the reservation process. They also provided maps & local magazines, notebooks with places of interests, and suggestions for fun activities during my stay, like Esther’s Follies on 6th St. - hilarious!! This home has all the conveniences of a home-away-from-home, but with thoughtful personal touches to make it a great vacation spot.

This comfortable, spacious, custom built mountain retreat with its massive log construction, beautifully appointed rustic décor and stunning views was perfect. The open, gourmet kitchen with its professional appliances was well equipped to prepare the meals we enjoyed around the large dining table. All four bedrooms were quiet, private and featured nice comfortable beds. One was even like its own apartment with a full kitchen and private entrance! The large deck was perfect for morning coffee, afternoon sunning and enjoying the dramatic views of the beautiful snow capped peaks all around us.
And that’s not all… There’s an invigorating sauna, Satellite TVs with DVD players, gas grill, fireplace, billiards table, foosball table, WiFi…whew! After all that, no wonder it was so relaxing to soak in the large hot tub on the patio and try to count all the stars in the heavens!
Summer time is this bear’s favorite time to visit the Rocky Mountains. Nearby hiking trails and bike paths gave us a great place to walk, bike and enjoy the wonders of nature. Keystone’s two golf courses are just around the corner. Located close to the fine dining, skiing and shopping that Summit County has to offer, you’ll never be too far away from all of the year-round fun! 05/27/2010 - The owners of the Eureka house at Mountain Village in Telluride, Colorado were kind and welcoming hosts during my visit to Telluride. Now I’m no superstar like Tom Cruise, Oprah, or some of the other Telluride locals but I can see why the celebrities love Telluride! It’s a small town full of friendly people from superstars to everyday folks who just want to get away in the mountains. Everyone seems to know each other and they make you feel like this is where you belong.

The Eureka house itself is a luxury home with everything you can think of. The cedar beams, stone hearths and wood floors make a mountain bear feel right at home. And beneath this Tyrollean lodge styled architecture are all the amenities to pamper a bear like me. It has a steam shower, jetted tubs, KitchenAid appliances, and radiant floor heat! If you need to adjust your bindings there is a work station in the large garage with tools to help you out. When I’m done skiing the mountain I can ride right down to the Eureka house, leave my boots in the mudroom and sit in the hot tub! From there on the top deck I can see most of the San Juan Mountain Range with jagged peaks and icy ridges. Then I can fall asleep in one of the master suites while snow falls outside the window and a fire burns in the hearth.

Telluride is surrounded by rugged 14,000 foot peaks. The people here call it “Little Switzerland” because it looks like the Alps – ahh, my kind of place! From town you can see Bridal Veil Falls, one of the highest waterfalls in the United States. Telluride Ski Resort boasts some of the best skiing and snowboarding in the world. The lifts and gondola connect Mountain Village and downtown Telluride so that you can practically travel around town on your skis.

The Eureka house is just a five minute walk to Mountain Village where a quaint pedestrian hamlet has been built. It’s a little town of its own with shopping, fine dining, burger joints, parks, spas and more. It even has a grocery store. Or you can jump on the gondola that takes you right into downtown Telluride just a few minutes away. There are festivals in almost all seasons in the town of Telluride and Mountain Village. In the summer there is a festival almost every weekend!

So whether you’re a celebrity or just an average Joe looking for a mountain retreat, the Eureka house will make your stay perfect!

05/19/2010 - I just got back from Austin and couldn’t wait to tell you about this wonderful home just minutes from downtown, yet tucked away in a lovely, quiet neighborhood. It was everything a Bear could want. This home is surrounded by trees making it feel quite secluded. I truly felt right at home. The master bedroom had a screened in deck with the ambiance of a treehouse, perfect for relaxing with a book or enjoying your morning breakfast. But that wasn’t all! The master bedroom boasts a huge flat screen TV and a bathroom ‘just right’ for a spa get-away! The shower with multiple shower heads and sunken bath will pamper you like royalty.

Just beyond the back deck is a private apartment over the garage with full kitchen living area and bedroom. The other 3 bedrooms in the main house each had their own bathroom and roomy closet space. With sleeping accommodations for 10, this property is a great find for larger groups visiting the Austin area. The deck off the kitchen with BBQ grill provides plenty of comfortable space for outdoor entertaining.

There’s much to see and do in Austin. I enjoyed walking along South Congress (called SoCo by the locals) and seeing the many varieties of restaurants and shops. There’s an abundance of dining experiences from casual fare offered out of streamlined campers and eaten on picnic tables, to eclectic diners, to myriad upscale fine dining restaurants. You’ll want to come back and try it all. I also had to visit 6th Street to take in the sites and sounds, where you’ll see why Austin is known as the “Live Music Capital of the world.”

Whether you enjoy peaceful parks or the musical nightlife, there’s something for everyone to enjoy within a short distance of this lovely, spacious and oh, so inviting home in the heart of Austin.

Relaxing in the backyard and enjoying the view!

05/12/2010 - It’s spring, and with its green rolling hills, oak trees dotting the hillsides, and beautiful vineyards in every direction, Napa Valley - the California wine country was calling me. Renowned for its rural beauty and featuring more than three hundred wineries, the region also boasts extraordinary homes, one of which we had the pleasure of staying at – the Adriance House, a Queen Anne Victorian estate.

Upon our arrival, our hosts graciously received us and spent time walking us through this incredible estate home as well as updating us on some of the fun events going on in the area during our stay. They also provided fantastic recommendations for wineries and restaurants in the area.

It is evident that our hosts put much thought and care into the restoration and décor of this 1892 historical farmhouse. From the perfectly appointed furnishings to the gourmet kitchen, the home provided all the charm of a bygone era with all the modern appliances to make our stay comfortable and convenient.

We enjoyed every aspect of this home: the spacious living room with its antique parlor stove, the gourmet kitchen with all the amenities, warm cozy beds, and sunsets off the backyard deck with the late evening light filtering through redwood pines and climbing roses.

With ample room for large or multiple families, a pool and spa, and nearby to all that Napa has to offer, I can't imagine a more fabulous place to stay on vacation!

Lounging by the pool before exploring the tree fort

05/05/2010 - While planning my trip to San Antonio, Texas, I anticipated a terrific vacation and knew the property was going to be great from the first day I corresponded with owners Eric and Alice. They were always quick to respond, helpful, informative and full of answers and suggestions!

My expectations were exceeded as I caught my first glimpse of the large stucco house. Eric was there to meet me and we hit it off immediately! Before entering the house, I explored the backyard with the lush vegetation, stately pecan trees, and the heated pool. Then I spied the tree fort positioned high in one of the large trees! Climbing the ladder to the fort, I had a great view of the San Antonio River running along the rear of the property. Beary, beary pretty!

Upon entering the house I oo'd and ah'd as I inspected the eclectic art collection, the interesting group of art deco furniture, the centrally-positioned circular gas fire pit, and the contemporary surfaces -- lots of high-end amenities in a modern and inviting setting. I brought a few friends with me, so we had our choice of three beautiful bedrooms inside the main house (only one word for the master bedroom suite: WOW!). One couple chose the garage apartment with its king-size bed, private bath and efficiency kitchen. No one minded cooking in the incredible kitchen -- very open and spacious with a gorgeous view of the pool and grounds. The garage TV room was an amazing retreat where we watched movies in a cozy and comfortable setting.

Though we definitely had fun at the famous San Antonio River Walk, the Alamo, the San Juan Mission and lots of wonderful restaurants, it was always a special treat to come back to this beautiful VRBO property where we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Great Canyon Lake view from the deck!

05/05/2010 - As a well-traveled bear who’s always on the go, I was really looking forward to my relaxing getaway at Canyon Lake. I couldn’t wait to arrive at the private beach haus and reunite with some friends I’ve known since we were cubs.

We were in awe over the blue waters of Canyon Lake and the view from the home. The two-story windows in the living room and the patio just outside the three sets of sliding glass doors provide stunning views of the water. We enjoyed sitting out on the deck admiring the view and eating hamburgers we cooked on the brand new charcoal grill. We also thoroughly enjoyed the canoe that the owners provide for their guests. We could 'bearly' get over how clear the water was!

This lake house is the perfect setup for a family getaway. With full-size bunk beds, futons, and a trundle bed, this house can sleep an entire sleuth of bears! Believe me, this house provides much more than the 'bear' necessities. Whether you’re looking for a vacation with the cubs or a relaxing getaway among friends, the location and amenities provided are perfect for all ages.

I think you'll enjoy this cozy cabin as much as I did!

05/03/2010 - Two Feathers cabin was quite the home away from home! I stayed there during spring, but this cabin would be perfect for any season! There was plenty to do in the small town of West Yellowstone during the few days I was there, but I spent most of my time in Yellowstone National Park. I spotted plenty of buffalo, elk, a couple of bald eagles, two very large wolves and even ran into my cousin “Grizzly”! It was quite the adventure seeing Old Faithful and many hot springs and geysers throughout my trip. Yellowstone is full of excitement. I also visited the Grizzly and Wolf Discovery Center in West Yellowstone and was able to see the bears and wolves right up close! It was well worth visiting.

After a long, fun day of driving and hiking through the park, it was great to come back to the cabin and sit by the fireplace. The owners of Two Feathers have literally thought of everything you can possibly imagine to make your stay comfortable and are just a stones-throw away if you need them. I’m definitely looking forward to another stay at this beautiful cabin!

This historic home was built in 1910. It possesses all of the charm of the period while providing all of the modern conveniences.

This lovely home features three bedrooms with very comfortable beds and soft sheets. There are two bathrooms - one with a claw foot tub with shower and the other with a shower. The living room features a TV, comfy couch and chair and the dining room has a wooden table with matching chairs. There is plenty of room for the family!

The street out front is lined with mature trees and flowers beds which were in bloom during my stay. It is wonderfully peaceful to sit on the front porch and listen to the church bells ring and the birds sing. The home is conveniently located in an area near Ohio State University and is also close to the airport and downtown.

04/29/2010 - I was looking for a nice mountain home to visit during the final week of skiing at Keystone, when I came across this wonderful condo. I couldn’t believe how close it was to the slopes! Just a few paw-steps and I was at the chairlift, ready to start my day of skiing. Slopeside? Definitely!

This condo was the perfect size for me to rest and unwind after my winter adventures. I could relax upstairs in bed and watch the great flat-screen TV or on the comfy leather couch downstairs in front of another flat-screen TV. This unit even had a DVD player, an iPod dock, and wi-fi so I could keep in touch with my favorite website – VRBO.

I really liked the tile and hardwood floors throughout the condo. And the kitchen was so nice! Beautiful cabinets, countertops and tile work all made for truly enjoyable meal preparation. The whole condo was so bright and airy with all the windows. And what a view! You really get to appreciate Keystone Mountain and the surrounding area by staying this close to the slopes – and by relaxing on the balcony with a hot cup of cocoa.

The condo is located close to all of the fine dining, skiing and shopping that Summit County has to offer. You’ll never be too far away from any of the year-round fun!

To top it all off, the owner was great to work with. She was happy to help with anything we needed, and she really made our stay a memorable one.

Make sure you check out Slopeside for your next visit to Keystone!

Our host greeted us very warmly, and was so accommodating, it was truly a pleasure. He had all the details worked out prior to our arrival and was extremely professional and very thoughtful.

From the grand foyer boasting a beautiful inlaid marble tile floor to the soaring ceilings with an amazing chandelier and grand staircase, we knew this was going to be an over-the-top property. As our host led us on the tour of the mansion, it just kept getting better and better as we went along. Each room was professionally decorated with fine furnishings and high-end finishes. The master bedroom suites were absolutely fabulous. The fully stocked gourmet kitchen was a chef’s dream! All of the guest suites were also tastefully decorated, and all the bedding was of the highest quality. We had to tear ourselves out of the luxuriousness and coziness of our beds! The mansion also has a fantastic game room with a great pool table and even some very fun slot machines! Adjacent to the game room was the theatre room, complete with a great video library.

If all that isn’t enough, the outdoor living and entertaining space was absolutely breath-taking. It was our own personal oasis for the weekend! The pool and spa look like something you might find in a designer's magazine. It was completely made out of rock with several waterfalls, a fire feature and lighting to make it a very dramatic evening setting. We swam our paws off from sun up till late into the evening.

The Entertainer's Mansion is centrally located to all Las Vegas has to offer. It was just the perfect location for a great Vegas experience. The Mansion definitely lived up to its name and then some! Thanks for an over-the-top stay, and we just had only one regret…that our stay was not longer!

Nestled in a quiet neighborhood surrounded with trees and boasting several decks in both the front and rear of the house, this house looked like the perfect place to relax. How could it not be? Walking in to the house, I got the same impression. The house was beautifully decorated, comfortably furnished and complete with all the essentials for a great stay. There was even a variety of University of Texas pieces that are essential for any Austin area home. We really enjoyed sitting on the front decks in the comfortable chairs and watching the sun set over Lake Travis. 04/27/2010 - This garden retreat is located in Sunny Anaheim, the center of Orange County. My friends and I were so close to everything this Southern California playground has to offer!

The spacious 4 bedroom, 3 bath house was a great home base for our Bear Jamboree! On the main floor there is a large master bedroom and bathroom with a private sliding door to the back yard. Upstairs there are three additional bedrooms and a bathroom for 8 additional guests! There is a full size dining room off the kitchen, and both open up to the back yard. The garage has been converted into a gaming area with air hockey/foosball, ping pong, soft-tip darts and even a shuffleboard table. The lower level of the home includes a billiard room with a 7-foot pool table, a viewing room with an HD flat panel LCD television with surround sound, two very comfortable couches and all the extras you would want for a fun filled family or group vacation! The hall closet is also stocked with games. There is something here for everyone.

Out back, there is the pool, hot tub, outdoor kitchen, and dining areas. This felt more like a private retreat than a neighborhood home. It was serene. We relaxed to the sounds of birds singing, the water fountain bubbling and to our favorite tunes while we floated in the pool. Some of group simply relaxed on the comfy sofa in the main living room and chatted over the days events. There is also ample parking in the driveway.

They say location is everything – it's certainly true here. The Disney parks are literally minutes away as is Knott’s Berry Farm, only 6 miles away, Ripley's Believe It Or Not Museum, 9 miles, and Medieval Times Dinner & Tournament, also 9 miles. Southern California’s best beaches are a quick 30 minutes away. Orange Country’s John Wayne Airport is just 14 miles. The dining and shopping opportunities are endless.

The layout of this home allowed us to have fun as a group, as well as have our own space. This one’s a gem!

Minutes from the airport, this beautiful Point Loma vacation home is close to favorite San Diego attractions such as Sea World, San Diego harbor, downtown San Diego, the Point Loma Lighthouse and the Pacific Ocean.

This San Diego home with spectacular views was the ideal setting for our Bear family gathering ---bright, light, spacious and relaxing with extra outdoor living spaces. The upstairs expansive master suite allowed us to get away from it all, with Jacuzzi tub, separate shower, and private deck with, of course, views of the city and harbor. The three bedrooms and three bathrooms on the main level provided privacy for all. And the large kitchen, eating area, comfortable family room and patio area provided an ideal gathering area.

Early-bears enjoyed the beautiful sunrises from this home and nighttime views of downtown San Diego were amazing. Also, on our evening walks, we loved watching the sun setting over the Pacific Ocean. A real highlight were the walks in this gorgeous Point Loma neighborhood, with Peet’s coffee our destination and Fresh & Easy market close by for groceries.

04/01/2010 - A Bear loves nothing better than a mountain retreat. That’s why I rounded up some friends headed for the hills to an amazing, spacious house in Tabernash, Colorado. Mother Nature welcomed us with beautiful blue skies over the snow topped mountains.

Driving through the nearby towns of Fraser and Winter Park we saw skiers and boarders on the slopes as well as many shops and restaurants. The quaint town of Fraser is home to the famous tubing hill which we all enjoyed during our stay.

Beyond the city we drove up the mountainside to our beautiful destination! Upon entering this mountain retreat we stepped into a very spacious mudroom that contained plenty of room for all of our winter gear. The foosball table was an added bonus to this area where my friends enjoyed some friendly competition during our stay.

Heading upstairs to the main floor we were pleased to see the open layout of the kitchen and living areas. The beautiful stone fireplace and mantel added a warmth to the living space. The full wall of sliding doors off the living area provided an amazing view of the mountains!

The large master suite including it’s own bathroom and walk-in closet were also on the main floor. The door off the deck was a nice addition to the suite. The younger cubs will enjoy the third floor bunkroom and hidden play area.

After spending time on the nearby slopes we were able to relax in the hot tub under the stars and even a light snowfall. Overall, this is the perfect place for a great mountain retreat and would also be a wonderful vacation get-away during the summer months with many opportunities for hiking, boating and fishing nearby!

03/17/2010 - When I arrived at this sprawling Palm Springs estate, I knew that I was in for a “beary” relaxing weekend. I took one step inside and I was greeted by the trickling sounds of a lovely wall fountain— just like my home in the woods! Ahhhh, peace at last.

The home is 4 bedroom, 3 ½ bathroom house so it’s plenty big for you and your cubs in tow. Everyone can find something to enjoy, whether it’s cooking up a feast in the chef’s kitchen, sitting by the fireplace in the living room, or exploring the backyard wonderland. I personally went straight to the back and enjoyed a game of beach volleyball with the family.

After the game, the cubs jumped into the gorgeous freshwater pool and that was my cue to hibernate. ‘Bear’ in mind, we had an extremely long flight, so I was quite jetlagged! I sank into the king size bed and the surround sound system lulled me to sleep. What astounded me most about this house was how cozy and warm it is considering its size— the cubs could be on one side playing while the rest of us were on the other side enjoying the fireplace.

This property truly has something for everyone and we couldn’t recommend it highly enough.

Relaxing on the porch of the restored ranch house in San Luis Obispo

03/15/2010 - Why hibernate when you can escape to San Luis Obispo’s lush landscape for the winter? To escape my “cabin fever,” I decided to gather some friends and head to California’s Central Coast. The Flying Caballos Ranch House was perfectly suited for our weekend getaway. From the moment we ambled through the white picket fence, the bright yellow exterior greeted us like a burst of sunshine.

The turn-of-the-century ranch house was enchanting while its modern appliances offered all the creature comforts. The architectural details, renovations, wall colors, furniture, and linens gave us the feeling of being transported back-in-time without getting stuck in a time warp. From bright and cheery to soft and dim, the room’s lighting options were adjustable creating a warm, glowing ambience akin to oil lamps. Each of the five bedrooms was fitted with crisp white linens under plush comforters. We were grateful that one room provided a toddler bed to keep our little one nearby. The home was casual in its décor, allowing us to truly kick our feet up and relax.

Within minutes of arriving, we were all eager to get outside and explore. A lush green manicured lawn with plenty of seating and a beautiful view, offered a relaxing spot to linger and catch up. An outdoor grill complete with a large table for dining provided the perfect place to cook and socialize outdoors. Beyond the picket fence, we discovered a scenic natural landscape with tall willowy grasses, a covered bridge (reminiscent of those in Bridges of Madison County) and a pasture of horses. By ringing the large iron bell, you could signal the horses to come over and visit. A long leisurely walk led to the bottom of a hill with a hiking trail leading up. It was perfect for anyone desiring a physical challenge.

Although there were many attractions in the surrounding towns, the desire to stay put and enjoy this comfortable home kept us on the property for most of our stay. It was the perfect opportunity to reconnect!

Adams Morgan is a fun neighborhood, kind of classy for a bear like me. The apartment is on a quiet street, yet within walking distance of a Metro station, so that we could easily get all over the city. Back home, coming through the front door truly felt like coming home, with many welcoming touches, including fresh flowers, fun knick-knacks, and cozy furnishings.

Waking up in the morning, we all felt eager for the day. The apartment is sunny and bright, filled with light from the many windows. I could hardly wait to brew some coffee, and take my mug out onto the rooftop deck. Filled with plants and flowers, a BBQ grill, and comfortable patio furniture, it was a delightful way to begin the day. A large pond is filled with hungry fish that beg to be fed.

A view of the National Cathedral from the deck reminded me that it was time to head out for the day. There is so much to see and do in Washington DC! This trip we toured the White House and the Capitol, visited our congressman's office, and saw some monuments, including the Washington Monument, the Lincoln Memorial, the Jefferson Memorial and the Korean War Memorial.

There are many wonderful restaurants to eat at, or pick up food to bring home and enjoy on the deck. DC offers everything from Lebanese to Ethopian restaurants and gave us the opportunity to try all sorts of new foods. Our hostess had a book with lots of recommendations. We also fixed a few meals at the apartment, since the kitchen was well stocked and very convenient.

We wanted to stay at a nice home that could hold all of our family plus some friends we wanted to bring along. We were seeking a place we could relax, play, and spend time together. We found all of this, and more, at Breckenridge’s View Manor.

Upon arrival, we enjoyed parking in the heated garage to unload our belongings. Once inside, we were thrilled to find so much space for our group! The two downstairs bedrooms provided ample space for the cubs and their buddies to spread out. The game room offered hours of entertainment for the little ones; they loved the big screen TV, the PlayStation video game console and the pool table.

Upstairs, we found three big, beautifully-decorated bedrooms, a spacious and well-stocked kitchen, and a very nice family room. With so much room, the whole family could spread out during and after each mealtime. Though, everyone’s favorite spot was the ultra-comfy couch. The whole group got to do so many activities in the nearby Breckenridge area. Some of us went snowshoeing. Others went skiing and snowmobiling while the cubs thoroughly enjoyed sledding down the hill. And at the end of each day, we relaxed and soaked away our aches in the bubbly hot tub.

While sitting in front of the warm fireplace, we watched some classic and new movies in the cozy living room and gazed at the skiers skiing down the slopes. Like staying in a model home, this home was immaculate and exceptionally decorated. Designer touches all throughout the home made it especially outstanding. The most incredible feature of this home was its location directly on Tampa Bay. There were amazing views of the bay from the master bedroom balcony and the family room opening to the back of the house. The family room had floor-to-ceiling windows to enjoy the view from this spectacular location!

The large back patio area had cushioned lounge chairs and seating, overlooking a spectacular drop-off pool into the ocean view. One night, I soaked in the hot tub after a busy day at Busch Gardens while gazing at the ocean just a few feet away and the stars overhead.

The master bedroom upstairs was very spacious, with a walk-in closet and 5-piece bath. The king-sized bed had a soft, extra deep pillow top mattress that just enveloped this bear’s body. There was a huge, over-sized shower in the bathroom, with a large double sink area to get ready in the morning. I woke up each morning to view the ocean from the private balcony and watch the ships and birds fly over the water. I even saw a Manatee glide slowly past the docks.

The kitchen was open and spacious, with granite countertops and stainless steel appliances. A center island contained the gas range and all the small appliances I needed during my stay. There was also a double-oven in the wall and an outside grill off the back patio. There was seating for 10 in the dining room, with a smaller table in the kitchen nook and three tall stool seats to eat at the counter by the sink. In this ideal kitchen, everything but the food is provided to enjoy all the meals you care to cook.

This home will comfortably accommodate multiple members from the bear clan with plenty of privacy. The queen bedroom downstairs had a bath with a shower, in addition to the master bedroom upstairs. Other guests can choose from three additional bedrooms upstairs, which share another bathroom with shower and tub. Besides the master bedroom, my favorite room upstairs was the den with the pull-out sleeper couch. It was very large and comfortable, with an extra large TV! All the bedrooms have their own TV’s, to wind down with a favorite show before going to bed.

This vacation home had all the comforts of home that made my stay so enjoyable. The towels for the bath and pool were the plushest, thickest towels this fur has ever felt! There were hooks behind every bedroom door, and a convenient towel rack on the back patio after exiting the pool. There were games and books to occupy leisure time, and thick cushions for the back deck seating area.

I truly felt at home in this exceptional vacation rental and wish it was my own home. I recommend this home to anyone and everyone – you will love this house and truly enjoy your stay!

Warming by the fire, enjoying amazing views

03/02/2010 - Over the weekend, I decided it was time to gather the bear family and head for the hills to a wintry retreat in Breckenridge, Colorado. Jack Frost was kind enough to pay us a visit upon our arrival, leaving the area with a fresh dusting of glistening powder. Bustling with skiers and boarders just off the slopes, the town was full of activity. There were many restaurants and shops in which to stop and stretch our weary legs from the car ride.

We continued our drive through Breckenridge, the small community of Blue River, (just south of the city) and up the mountainside to a beautiful mountain retreat fondly known as Quandary Vista. Upon entering Quandary Vista, the family was able to spread out for the weekend in the incredibly spacious living and dining room which was adjacent to the newly updated, full-service kitchen.

The wrap-around deck just off the living room provided us with beautiful, unobstructed views of Quandary Peak. Sitting at 14,265 ft., the majestic peak and its grandeur could not be missed through the massive floor-to-ceiling windows that surrounded the living room.

The cubs headed to the basement for the weekend and took claim to their very own territory in one of the four large bedrooms and two bathrooms. They took advantage of the pool table in the large common space and a few cubs soothed their sore muscles in the hot tub located just outside on the lower level deck.

We all fell in love with the secluded master bedroom which sat on the second level. The large, beautiful bathroom complete with a Jacuzzi tub added to the splendor of the large bedroom. It was a much appreciated retreat after a day of snow-shoeing!

Overall, this spacious home will leave you feeling warm and “fuzzy” with all the comforts of your own home and more.

Stunning Rocky Mountain View Vacation Home- Mont Blanc Chalet

Enjoying the beautiful mountain views of Estes Park

Enjoying the beautiful mountain views of Estes Park

02/26/2010 - I decided to take the Bear family up to Estes Park, CO for a weekend of winter fun. Jack Frost decided to pay a visit to Estes Park, bringing along a foot of new snow and I was fortunate to have picked such a wonderful house to enjoy the snowy weekend. On the map, the Mont Blanc Chalet appears to be practically on the main road from Estes Park to Rocky Mountain National Park, but don’t be fooled – the road to the chalet requires a short drive up a winding mountain road. Once you’re there, you’d never realize that you’re so close to town. The wow factor at Mont Blanc is high; you enter the house from the driveway and walk up to the first floor and are greeted by a large living area with huge windows overlooking the Estes Valley. The whole bear family spent the first 10 minutes “oohing” and “aahing” over the house before we could even unload the Bearmobile.

The Mont Blanc Chalet is a comfortable home on three levels. The cubs loved the loft area with its bunk beds and immediately made themselves at home, while the grown ups appreciated the kid friendly touches like gates for the stairs and bed railings for the upper bunks. The large kitchen features granite tile countertops and all the appliances and cooking utensils you need to create your own meals, which were enhanced by the amazing view right from the dining room table. If there’s a restaurant in Estes Park with a better view, this bear hasn’t found it yet. The bear family enjoyed the sunny deck, complete with hot tub, and one highlight of the stay came when a family of mule deer made their way down the driveway and spent a good half hour browsing for their dinner right below the deck.

The wonderful thing about Mont Blanc is that even though it feels isolated, you’re only a short drive to everything Estes Park has to offer. The Fun City Amusement Park, the downtown area itself and the YMCA are all within 10 minutes, and Rocky Mountain National Park is just up the road. The YMCA was a highlight of the trip, and is a real hidden gem in Estes Park, offering all kinds of activities including roller skating, ice skating, and the new craft room, which provides an opportunity to make your own one-of-a-kind souvenirs and keepsakes.

I heartily enjoyed my vacation at the Mont Blanc Chalet and recommend that you take advantage of everything it has to offer!

Enjoying the comfy, handmade log bed!

02/24/2010 - The "Angler" was all I hoped for and more. Even before setting my paws in the door, I had fallen in love with the cabin and the beautiful valley! I started my day listening to the fire crack and pop while I watched the sunrise slowly transform the snow-covered mountains from blue to pink to acres of sparkling diamonds. Take a moment and imagine yourself being surrounded by such a scenic vista.

The mix of primitive, antique and woodsy elements blended together in a charming way, creating a "homey" atmosphere that had a way of instantly setting us "at ease". I claimed the bedroom with the beautiful handcrafted log bed (as a bear, it was the obvious choice and most comfortable tree I ever slept in!).

Bears like the sweet stuff and we ate well. The kitchen’s Maytag appliances worked great and the gas stove and oven were a dream. Having a dishwasher was also very much appreciated.

We came to ride snowmobiles and the trailhead to the many Forest Service trails were just outside the front door. It was so nice to just get on and ride without the need to load them back on the trailer at the end of the day. We explored the Hahns Peak, Colorado area and even, rode to Wyoming. We experienced awesome riding in fresh powder, day after day. We wish we could have stayed longer with so many more trails to ride and meadows to discover. This summer, we hope to return to explore by ATV or mountain bike.

Our host was exceptional and very eager to make sure we had a perfect stay- and it was!

Stay Where the VRBO Bear Stayed in Grand Lake!

Surrounded by exquisite custom accents

Surrounded by exquisite custom accents

02/19/2010 - This custom built home located in The Shores of Shadow Mountain subdivision could be considered the perfect “home away from home”. It is only a 10 minute drive to town and just a short walk to the lake. Could it get any better?

When I arrived with my traveling companions, John, the homeowner greeted us and gave us a complete tour of this spectacular home. At one point, we gazed out the “crow’s nest” windows in awe of the lake and mountain views. We were blessed to see the amazing flight of a bald eagle (where was my camera when I really needed it- still packed).

The air was cold and crisp while the snow was sparkly and fresh. The lake views were breathtaking, especially one morning when the fog rolled off the lake. You could see the crystal trees that had been coated by frost as the fog moved across the lake and land.

This home featured exquisite furnishings and custom accents from top-to-bottom. Each bedroom was warm and welcoming. The master bedroom had a great breakfast/reading deck (which a furry bear like me can enjoy this time of year), and the master bathroom truly made me feel like royalty. The kitchen was beautiful and very well equipped with everything you could imagine to cook a meal. While we ate and played games, the fireplace located between the kitchen and the living room kept everyone nice and toasty. My favorite feature was the radiant floor heating; it was so wonderful to pad across the warm, cozy floors. I could have hibernated just resting on the radiant, warm floor.

Some of my companions enjoyed a morning of snowmobiling up on the trails and others took snowboarding lessons at Sol-Vista Ski Resort, which was only a 30 minute drive. We went bowling at the Grand Lake Bowling Alley and went sledding on the nearby sledding hill. However, the best part of the trip was hanging out and laughing together, in the warmth of this amazing “home away from home.”

Grand Lake was a very quaint small town, but still offered a couple of small grocery stores and several different restaurants. On our final night in Grand Lake, we went to town and dined at a Mexican restaurant called Poncho and Lefty’s. The food was very yummy.

You will not be disappointed with a stay in this exquisite home!

Getting ready to enjoy the hot tub

02/19/2010 - My latest adventure began with a scenic drive over Berthoud Pass where I and my travel-mates enjoyed beautiful views of pine-treed mountain peaks into the Fraser Valley town of Winter Park.

As it was snowing upon our arrival, we were thankful for the convenience of the garage. Entering the duplex, we were quite impressed by the spacious four bedroom floor plan. The large closets in the foyer surved well for all our winter gear. The two master suites on the main floor, both equipped with TV and DVD players, provided privacy away from the two living areas on the upper and lower floors. The two living areas were ideal for our clan of all ages. While the adults enjoyed the main living area, playing board games and munching on snacks at the large table while watching the Olympics on the large flat screen TV, the teen cubs found the lower level living room a perfect retreat where they could play foosball and video games.

The spacious kitchen was on the main level. The cook was “beary” happy preparing most of our meals at home as the kitchen provided all the necessities. Additional sleeping arrangements were convenient on the lower level, with an adjacent bedroom having two bunk beds and a den with an additional twin bed. Don’t forget to take in the view off the patio in the private hot tub!

Winter Park offered excellent downhill skiing and snowboarding in addition to cross country skiing, snowshoeing and a terrific tubing hill only a few minutes away. There was a shuttle bus to take us wherever we needed to go. We enjoyed access to the neighborhood recreation center, which featured an outdoor pool, hot tub and fitness facility- all within walking distance of the duplex. I can’t wait to come back in the summertime for hiking, biking and wildlife sightings. You'll find this Fraser Valley mountain home is the perfect retreat to rejuvenate!

Relaxing in the living room of this great Vail condo

02/04/2010 - Driving into Vail as the sun was setting was a great way to start off my stay. My fur could barely keep me warm, but the scenic views were worth it! Luckily, there were lots of logs waiting for me to start a cozy fire in the condo’s fireplace. I loved my condo in Lionshead Arcade. There was plenty of room for a bear family of 4. The kitchen had everything a chef needed, but the dinner suggestion my friend Jon gave me for “Sweet Basil’s “ restaurant sounded too good to pass up. I bundled up and headed to Vail Village for a magical evening. The holiday lights and cold mountain air took my breath away.

In the morning, the smell of hot coffee and good food brought me down the stairs to a little café called “Les Delices de France“. Don’t pass this up this little gem! It’s a great place to fuel up before hitting the slopes. While Vail Village is a short 5 minutes away, you don’t need to leave this little nook. Shops, restaurants, parking, shuttle and ski lifts are all outside your door. The owner arranges for Jon and his friends to take care of all your needs, which they do with first class service. I can’t wait to come back!

Relaxing at the LBJ Ranch Guest House

01/20/2010 - It was the week before Christmas and all the Bear cousins were in town for the holidays. I decided to take them deep into the Texas Hill Country to experience the magic of the season. Our home for the weekend was the LBJ Ranch Guest House in Stonewall, which is located next door to the Historic Texas White House on the banks of the Pedernales River. We were warmly welcomed upon our arrival and immediately made to feel at home whilst keys were exchanged and information shared on various local attractions and upcoming events. The house, a comfortable 4 bedroom/ 2 bathroom cottage, was beautifully decorated for Christmas complete with a tree filled with the late Lady Bird Johnson's personal decorations. Little did the Bear Cubs know that we were in for a living history lesson: for not only was each room filled with personal memorabilia and photographs of the Johnson family, but the opportunity to take a tour of the White House was literally on our doorstep.

We spent most mornings on the screened porch, sipping our coffee and watching the kids squeal with delight on the swing, explore the oak-filled grounds, build forts, collect pecans, and attempt to catch fish in the river. When we managed to tear ourselves away from the comforts of home, we were spoilt for choice with all the shopping and dining amenities in nearby Fredericksburg and Johnson City. Not to mention all the local vineyards and wineries. Being Christmas, we were also fortunate enough to follow the Hill Country Trail of Lights - a spectacular display of Christmas lights that included Johnson City, Marble Falls and many of the smaller towns in between. Another great activity was a walk up the nearby Enchanted Rock which, apart from a great sense of achievement, also gives spectacular views over the Hill Country.

We had a very memorable holiday at the LBJ Ranch Guest House and felt truly honored to spend time in this family home that is steeped in history and culture.

01/14/2010 - The scenic drive to Eagle-Vail was breathtaking. The Rocky Mountains, dusted with fresh snow, was a scenic sneak peek of a glorious weekend getaway. I was equally impressed by the ideal location of this lovely home. It was perfectly nestled in a charming neighborhood on the outskirt of Beaver Creek, surrounded by majestic pine trees.

My stay in “The Exception” provided the ideal winter wonderland retreat! Each room featured large windows with fabulous mountain views. This exclusive home was spaciously spread out on four levels, perfect for accommodating large families or groups. Each of the three bedrooms on the third floor had its own full bathroom, including a steam shower and Jacuzzi tub in the master bath (what a treat!). Additional bedrooms were available in the upper loft and on the lower level, both providing adequate privacy. The well-equipped kitchen and a roomy dining room made cooking and eating in enjoyable. To have a perfect end to a perfect day, I soaked in the luxurious, private “Hot Springs” spa.

There are many activities guests can enjoy during their stay. Hit the slopes at one of the prestigious ski resorts just minutes away, explore the open terrain on cross county skis or snowshoes, or ice skate at the local rink. If outdoor adventure is not your forte, you will be content inside this delightful home. Read a good book by the beautiful stone wood fireplace, play a game of pool or watch a movie on the comfy couches in the recreation room. There is even a computer and a WiFi connection for those who need to connect with the outside world!

This home is also perfect for a summer getaway. There’s a garage equipped with mountain bikes, a “Burley” bike trailer to pull the little ones, tennis rackets as well as towels for drying off after a refreshing dip in the outdoor community pool. Plus, hiking and biking the Eagle Creek trail is a fabulous way to enjoy the Colorado Rockies!

You will enjoy your stay at “The Exception” as I did on this trip to Beaver Creek. There are plenty of activities to enjoy or if you come to relax, you are guaranteed to feel rejuvenated when you leave!

Relaxing in Master Bedroom at the great Cabin in the Woods

01/12/2010 - Driving into Breckenridge with the holiday lights still illuminated set the mood for a great stay at this VRBO property. Just three miles past downtown Breckenridge heading south, we arrived at a winter wonderland. The setting for this VRBO mountain cabin was wonderful. The location offered gorgeous views; it was so peaceful and serene.

This vacation home was very cozy. I and my family enjoyed the relaxed living area with gas fireplace, TV, eating area and kitchen all together in one great room. The kitchen was well equipped with everything we needed for family meals. I sat in the comfy chair by the fireplace, watching TV and ‘surfing’ my laptop. The wireless high speed Internet had a lot of bandwidth which allowed me to get some work done. The bedrooms were plentiful with comfortable beds and enough bathrooms for everyone in our family. We loved the main-level master bedroom’s Jacuzzi tub. This was our private getaway while upstairs the cubs each had a room of their very own.

One of my favorite activities was the outside hot tub. The soothing warm waters were relaxing after a day of activity around Breckenridge. With expansive open spaces and beautiful trees, the Blue River area was an ideal place for snowshoeing and other winter activities.

This Bear and family would highly recommend the South Breckenridge Blue River area. It’s close to town, yet peaceful and secluded as the Blue River runs directly behind the cabin. We loved our winter holiday stay but any season would be a great time to visit. Summer would be a wonderful time to return for hiking, star gazing and fly fishing. The owner has arranged for Carrie to assist you with your booking as well as anything you need during your stay. As the owner says, staying at Blue River really gives you the ‘cabin in the woods’ feeling.

Enjoying the holidays in Vail

01/07/2010 - I had the pleasure of staying in this Cascade Village home in Vail, Colorado over the Christmas 2009 holiday. The beautiful setting overlooking Gore Creek was the perfect winter wonderland.

The sprawling, three-level residence had every amenity possible. Upon entering the front hall, one is treated to an incredible mountain view out of the giant windows in the great room down below. On this entry level, there were two bedrooms with a full bath. The larger of the bedrooms had a desk with a computer to access the Internet. As I descended the steps into the living area, I was surrounded with views out of every window and a magnificent fireplace complemented by a large Christmas tree. I knew I had found the perfect place to celebrate the holiday with family and friends. The great room contained furnishings fit for a king. Every chair offered comfort and warmth with pillows and throws. The surround sound throughout this living area made us feel like we were at a concert as we listened to music or watched television.

The kitchen was unbelievably stocked with utensils and equipment to satisfy any great chef. It was truly something for the “Galloping Gourmet.” There was a comfortable corner table to sit and enjoy morning coffee while we took in the great views and enjoyed watching “the cooks” prepare breakfast. The dining room housed a grand square table that comfortably seats twelve. Alternatively, you can enjoy your meal outside on the deck which overlooks Gore Creek. The deck came with a heat lamp to ward of the chilly mountain air. The main level also had a bunk room behind the kitchen which comfortably slept three.

The next level down was a walkout basement with three additional bedrooms. The master bedroom is a residence all of its own. The furnishings were fantastic and warm - again fit for a king. All the linens throughout the home were top of the line with down pillows, comforters and mattresses. The master suite opened onto a large wrap around deck that housed a hot tub. There were extra large towels furnished for everyone who wants to enjoy the quiet of the mountains while enjoying some soaking time in the hot tub. The master bath had both a large shower and a jetted tub. His-and-her sinks kept us from getting in each other’s way. The oversized king bed was so comfortable and warm it was tough to get up in the mornings. The other two bedrooms were beautifully decorated and also furnished with only the best. All the linens were top of the line and the room was complimented with down accessories. Each of these large bedrooms has its own full bath. The large laundry room is on this floor, also. It was equipped with two dryers and a large washer and plenty of laundry baskets to hold all of the towels from the hot tub.

This home was very well equipped and situated in a perfect location surrounded by mountains. It was a fantastic residence that could easily make one want to hibernate here for the entire winter.
