"We, my daughter, my husband and I spent 5 beautiful days at Whitney Bungalow in February. The house is lovely, the pool terrific and the location quiet, but within a short drive to the centre of Ubud. We loved every minute at this beautiful home. We would highly recommend having Made, the house manager and cook, prepare your meals. She made us a fabulous breakfast every morning and an equally good dinner every night. We couldn't wait to get up in the morning to the plate of fresh fruit that was the best we have ever had. Made's husband Jesse and her nephew, were our drivers for the 5 days we were there. They are both very good drivers (you will want a driver given the chaotic traffic in Ubud and the surrounding area) and very reliable and nice, as well as good tour guides. I would highly recommend this lovely rental property and wish it were closer, so we could return again and again."

Tranquil perfection amongst the beautiful rice fields of Ubud. Will definitely return.
"i have written this review more than a few times in my head. Even with my journalist background, finding the right words to describe Bali Buddha Villa have been elusive. We arrived in the pitch black and really could not be prepared for what would greet us in the light of day. Despite being only a five minute taxi ride to busy and bustling Ubud, the villa is the epitome of tranquility where you can dive into a good book, splash in the amazing pool, relax with your family (or just yourself) or simply marvel at the lush scenery.
Our entourage included our 12 year old daughter, 19 year old son and my 72 year old mother. We all fell in love not just with this stunning villa but also with Made who was far beyond our cook or cleaner. She became a friend who we relied heavily on to ensure every detail of our bucket list trip was take care of.
Our driver (also Made) was brilliant. He was there to greet us at the airport and fast became another friend we won't soon forget. He politely picked us up daily to show us the various sites of Ubud and beyond. His pride for Bali and the traditions and customs of the Balinese people was infectious. Made took us on the most amazing walk through the rice fields that are easily accessed from town. Every outing and drive was insightful and informative. We never felt rushed or pressured in anyway. His quiet demeanour was the perfect compliment to the laid back but often chaotic pace of Bali life.
After a day of touring or shopping, it was incredibly special to return to Robin's beautiful oasis in the rice fields and jungle. Made made us delicious breakfasts every morning and very often we asked her to make us dinners too. She took care of us on every level from doing our laundry to arranging for massages.
Robin very patiently answered all of my questions before our arrival...and there were a LOT. If I can offer any advice, don't be like me and try to hyper plan things before you get to Bali. Relax and allow yourself to slide into the pace of this beautiful island. You will be in excellent hands and will absolutely not be disappointed. Oh...and learn a little Bahasa or Indonesian. The true gift of Bali is her people. I wish we could have communicated better.
We are already looking forward to returning to this incredible villa. It was so much more than a place to stay. It was an important part of our dream holiday.
Suksma Robin, Made and Made...Wayan too. Hugs to Cleo too!"

"My good fried Ann and I spent 3 weeks at Madrigal Guest House and we could not have asked for a more peaceful place. We loved the open floor plan and spent a lot of our time on the beautiful veranda (we stayed on the lower floor). Wonderful decor and fabulous garden, very clean and well maintained. I loved all the tile floors and large windows with large glass doors opening up to the wonderful wrap around porch. As two younger women traveling abroad we felt very safe here.
Madrigal is perfectly located, far enough away from the main street to be peaceful and yet as close as a 5 minute walk to the market, 2 minutes to Warungs (restaurants) and about 15 minutes to Ubud (taxi to Ubud $3-$5 USD). We took a long walk up through the rice fields above Ubud but also enjoyed the sun coming up over the rice field off our veranda every morning w/our coffee.
Bill was fabulous, welcoming us and making us feel part of the family. Ann had gotten bit by something on the eye and he went to the market to get medicine for her and coils for us to burn on the veranda. Made' was such a great cook, always asking us what we wanted for breakfast, remembering what fruits we liked best and always having it on the ready. I had gotten sick right before arriving and had a bad cough, Made' made me fresh watermelon juice every day insisting it would help...and it did! We met her daughter Kadek and we all had some laughs visiting and getting to know each others cultures.
Wsukia, is Bill's driver and was just a text away if we needed him. He is a busy guy, so when we wanted an all day adventure we made plans ahead to make sure he was available. We took 3 separate trips to different parts of Bali and he was very knowledgeable and funny. He also set up transport for us to go Gili Meno and on a cycling tour. It was very helpful and affordable.
I try to be objective with reviews and coming up w/ something I didn't like is a tough one here. Air conditioning on a few days would have been nice but this was really not a bother with the open air windows and ceiling fans (which the ceiling was beautiful to!) We did have a couple of geckos that hung around on the walls, they were startling at first but became our friends.
We miss you Bill, Ari, Made', Kadek and Wsukia! It was a life changing trip for me and Madrigal made it even better. We will be back! Barbara & Annie"
