Recent Kyoto reviews

"We thought Gion Apartment was fabulous for our 11 nights in Kyoto. Spacious and well accommodated for our 1 year old. Not a far walk from a train station, and a short walk to the more tourist-y area of Gion. Nice little local area too with recommendations from Curtis, which were great."

"Not much more to add to the previous reviews. The location is perfect, quiet and yet close to lots of sights (and the local taxi stand). The house is fantastic, a traditional house with modern facilities. Acco was really helpful and as the previous reviewer mentioned spent considerable time explaining everything in the house and giving us lots of tips on the best places to visit. Our only regret is we didn't get the chance to say goodbye in person at the end of our stay. We loved Kyoto and staying at Acco's house made the whole experience even more enjoyable."

"Our family vacations in Kyoto on a bi-annual basis and after our stay this time we all agreed that this will be the machiya of choice when we come back again next time. It is located in the less touristic part of town (west side) but public transportations and taxis are easily accessible, for those who would like to head out to Arashiyama the train station is only 8 mins away by walking. This is a neighborhood for Kyoto residents, and the markets and shops are catered to their needs, which really adds to the charm, we felt privileged to be part of this experience for 5 days.
It is an authentic machiya and do be aware that the bathrooms and WCs are detached from the main house through a charming garden.
The owner Sano-san's responses were quick and helpful, and we look forward to coming back.
One last thing: when communicating to cab drivers the closest street corner is "Om-mae Dori" and "Ayanokoji Dori". Somehow Google maps' "Gozen Dori" does not register with the local drivers."
