  • Cosy and beautiful inn

"My family of four stayed at Koto Inn over three nights and wished we had more time there. As others have said, the inn is beautifully restored and the furnishings (kitchen, bathroom, even washing machine!) are top-notch. What struck me most was the care and pride of the owners in maintaining the inn. Kudos to David and Yoshiko for adding thoughtful and personal touches to the place. We're thankful we got the chance to stay at the inn and experience living in a 124 year-old house. It certainly made the trip extra special for my family. Keep up the good work!!"

  • A perfect stay

"My family of four (2 adults, 2 kids) staying here in early January. The place is perfect down a quaint ally. Acco has thought of everything and everything is beautiful and perfect. Even though there was snow when we were there we were kept nice and toasty, unlike at other traditional homes we stayed in during our vacation. Acco was the ultimate host-she helped us make a dinner reservations, gave us directions and met us near the taxi stand. Her English is perfect and she is kind, helpful and knowledgable. We hated to leave. Thanks!!"

  • A Fun Stay for Us with the Kids

"This Machiya house worked out well for our family (4). We wanted the children to get a sense of what it must be like to live in Kyoto. By staying in a Machiya house we felt at once part of the neighborhood. The house is well located, clean, and has the basics. The stairs are a little steep but our four year old was able to climb up and down pretty easily. The owner has put in a nice soaking tub into the unit that comes in handy after a day of walking from temple to temple."

  • Beautiful Traditional House

"We stayed for six nights at Gion House and had an excellent time. The owner was very responsive to our initial note regarding availability and to every other communication after that. It was fun to experience a traditional house (one that is very clean and includes many modern amenities, such as a small kitchen, washer-dryer, and very nice bathroom). Gion House was the perfect base for our first visit to Kyoto."
