  • Great Traditional Stay

"There are a number of positives about this small house. First, it's location is great - just a few blocks from great restaurants and shopping and just a few blocks from easy train and bus options. Next is Rieko who helped us so much with advice and suggestions for restaurants, etc. We also appreciated the huge washer/dryer which we used a lot given how hot it was that week and arriving after a week in Tokyo. The house is immaculately clean and the futons were comfortable. The stairs are steep to the bedroom so it was a bit of a lug to get our heavy suitcases up there but otherwise my tall husband was able to adapt to the short headroom with no problem. The bathroom is large and has a nice big shower. We did appreciate the small sofa upstairs and desk chair as our aging backs did get tired using just the floor seats (its the up and down that we're not used to). All in all, we recommend this property!"

  • Quiet, clean and wonderful

"We were travelling in a group of 4, with 2 of us in their 60s and 70s. We wanted to choose a place to stay that is clean and quiet and feelings more "home-like" than normal hotels. Tsumugi Inn was absolutely perfect. It is not a hotel but a temporary home, kept incredibly cosy and neat. The house is in the middle of town and is about 15 minutes on foot from the nearest train stations, tucked away in a quiet, picturesque little lane. Everything in the house is spotlessly clean, all the appliances and amenities are in perfect order. The host, Mr Kuni, is thoughtful and kind, and very experienced receiving overseas guests. This would be a perfect home for a group of friends who enjoy peace and quiet. A few tips I would like to offer: (i) there is no sofa (we sit on big cushions around a low coffee / dining table) and the bathrooms are on a different floor from the bedrooms, so older visitors should take care; (ii) our host keeps the place very neat and tidy with beautiful Japanese adornments around the house, parents should take care with very young children so they do not swallow (or destroy) anything; (iii) if you are unfamiliar with the rubbish recycling system in Japan it is worth asking a few more questions to make sure - we were sometimes quite confused although I think we did manage not to mess things up too badly in the end. Overall, a lovely place to stay - highly recommended!!"

  • Cosy and beautiful inn

"My family of four stayed at Koto Inn over three nights and wished we had more time there. As others have said, the inn is beautifully restored and the furnishings (kitchen, bathroom, even washing machine!) are top-notch. What struck me most was the care and pride of the owners in maintaining the inn. Kudos to David and Yoshiko for adding thoughtful and personal touches to the place. We're thankful we got the chance to stay at the inn and experience living in a 124 year-old house. It certainly made the trip extra special for my family. Keep up the good work!!"
