  • Incredible apartment - unstoppable views

"We recently hired the whole apartment for a week and had an amazing experience. Having breakfast / afternoon tea with a large window view of the mountain is just amazing. The design is very stylish, and 'extras' include everything you would require,(ie hair dryer, ipod dock, cd player - even an Australian plug) The owner of this property is extremely helpful and the help doesn't stop there, upon arrival the conceirge team will help you with anything else you require. Only constructive comment is that the images online although great, don't do it justice, its so much better in real life! Very happy to reccomend for any group of people ( or for a couple - who can hire part of the apartment)"

  • A Fun Stay for Us with the Kids

"This Machiya house worked out well for our family (4). We wanted the children to get a sense of what it must be like to live in Kyoto. By staying in a Machiya house we felt at once part of the neighborhood. The house is well located, clean, and has the basics. The stairs are a little steep but our four year old was able to climb up and down pretty easily. The owner has put in a nice soaking tub into the unit that comes in handy after a day of walking from temple to temple."

  • A lovely week-end in a charming Kyoto Machiya

"Spent 2 nights with a group of 7 friends (almost all Japanese residents) and had great time in this charming traditional Machiya. Very spacious, well equiped, good location in a lively neighborhood with easy access to city center, very nice and beautiful little garden, excellent and confortable sleeping arrangements, definitely a place to come back. Was not in charge of organizing this week-end but understand the owner has been very nice and accomodating, just like this home :)"

  • Quiet, clean and wonderful

"We were travelling in a group of 4, with 2 of us in their 60s and 70s. We wanted to choose a place to stay that is clean and quiet and feelings more "home-like" than normal hotels. Tsumugi Inn was absolutely perfect. It is not a hotel but a temporary home, kept incredibly cosy and neat. The house is in the middle of town and is about 15 minutes on foot from the nearest train stations, tucked away in a quiet, picturesque little lane. Everything in the house is spotlessly clean, all the appliances and amenities are in perfect order. The host, Mr Kuni, is thoughtful and kind, and very experienced receiving overseas guests. This would be a perfect home for a group of friends who enjoy peace and quiet. A few tips I would like to offer: (i) there is no sofa (we sit on big cushions around a low coffee / dining table) and the bathrooms are on a different floor from the bedrooms, so older visitors should take care; (ii) our host keeps the place very neat and tidy with beautiful Japanese adornments around the house, parents should take care with very young children so they do not swallow (or destroy) anything; (iii) if you are unfamiliar with the rubbish recycling system in Japan it is worth asking a few more questions to make sure - we were sometimes quite confused although I think we did manage not to mess things up too badly in the end. Overall, a lovely place to stay - highly recommended!!"
