  • Absolutely perfect setting for our stay

"Our family of five adults and an infant stayed in early April and had the most amazing time. Joshua's apartment provides a really wonderful setting for your stay in Kyoto. Compared to the cramped quarters we shared in Tokyo, this apartment was more than enough space for the five of us and our infant. The rooms were very comfortable and quite spacious. You will be floored by just how beautiful this place is, from the gardens to the tatami rooms, it was just absolutely amazing. The location itself was also perfect, less than 10 minute walk to two different supermarkets and a number of great restaurants. The Imperial Gardens are literally around the corner and were just stunning at this time of year. Joshua did a great job explaining how everything worked and gave us some solid advice for how to spend our time in Kyoto. Prior to our stay he was very prompt in his responses to our questions via email. If we ever go back there is no doubt we would stay here again over a hotel."

  • Great Apartment!

"Could not have asked for a better apartment to stay in for our trip to Tokyo. Great area around the apartment, and not as hectic as central Tokyo. Many shops, restaurants nearby -- and the 24 hour supermarket. Makoto was very helpful to us as well. Will rent again when we return to Tokyo."

  • Quiet, clean and wonderful

"We were travelling in a group of 4, with 2 of us in their 60s and 70s. We wanted to choose a place to stay that is clean and quiet and feelings more "home-like" than normal hotels. Tsumugi Inn was absolutely perfect. It is not a hotel but a temporary home, kept incredibly cosy and neat. The house is in the middle of town and is about 15 minutes on foot from the nearest train stations, tucked away in a quiet, picturesque little lane. Everything in the house is spotlessly clean, all the appliances and amenities are in perfect order. The host, Mr Kuni, is thoughtful and kind, and very experienced receiving overseas guests. This would be a perfect home for a group of friends who enjoy peace and quiet. A few tips I would like to offer: (i) there is no sofa (we sit on big cushions around a low coffee / dining table) and the bathrooms are on a different floor from the bedrooms, so older visitors should take care; (ii) our host keeps the place very neat and tidy with beautiful Japanese adornments around the house, parents should take care with very young children so they do not swallow (or destroy) anything; (iii) if you are unfamiliar with the rubbish recycling system in Japan it is worth asking a few more questions to make sure - we were sometimes quite confused although I think we did manage not to mess things up too badly in the end. Overall, a lovely place to stay - highly recommended!!"

"Very comfortable apartment. We found the apartment to be spotlessly clean, well appointed and very quiet, much appreciated after having been in Tokyo for a week. As previously mentioned in another review, the photos and description are perfectly accurate, and the self checkin works very well. Being December it was quite cool - the heating works well and the down comforters were lovely and cozy. We had no problems at all and found the details of grocery stores, etc in the information book to be very helpful. There are a number of little restaurants on Gojo and we particularly liked the Udon Sanshiki, where we ate on a cold rainy night. Very welcoming, average prices and decidedly above average food and attention to detail. A young chef who deserves to do well. I would love to have the opportunity to stay here again."
