  • Even better than the photos

"Kamogawa-an is even more elegant than the photos on the website each detail, the dishes, furnishing, the futons, the rock garden, the cypress bath is to die for! There are many different places where you can sit and view the Kamo River. Of course the location is great, near Kyoto station, and many of the temples. We loved it here!"

  • Perfect Location. Quiet Neighborhood

"My two sons and I stayed in this apartment for a 10-night stay. It was the perfect location for us, since the subway/train station was close by. We had plenty of space for the three of us. Nakano has a grocery store, which we shopped at daily. It's just a few blocks from the apartment, and you pass it on your way to/from the subway station. One thing to keep in mind is that Nakano is not a tourist spot. We did have a bit of trouble when it came to dining in some of the local restaurants. Two of them turned us away. Not sure if it was the language barrier or if we indeed required a reservation. We should have asked our host, Makoto, for a few more dining suggestions while in that area. Speaking of Makoto, he was an absolute pleasure. From the moment we reserved the room, until our departure, he provided us with much information and assistance. Make sure you understand the trash sorting before your host departs. It can be confusing. I would definitely stay there again. It was our home away from home."

  • A delightful, happy tatami house

"This small tatami townhouse was perfect for me and my daughter since it had two separate bedrooms. The house is fully equipped and easy to operate. It is on a very quiet lane but close to everything we wanted and needed (trains, supermarket, subway, restaurants and department stores). Actually, this was my second stay at the house; I was there 5 years ago with my son and would go back again in a flash. If VRBO allows it, I would be pleased to be contacted directly by potential renters."

  • Quiet, clean and wonderful

"We were travelling in a group of 4, with 2 of us in their 60s and 70s. We wanted to choose a place to stay that is clean and quiet and feelings more "home-like" than normal hotels. Tsumugi Inn was absolutely perfect. It is not a hotel but a temporary home, kept incredibly cosy and neat. The house is in the middle of town and is about 15 minutes on foot from the nearest train stations, tucked away in a quiet, picturesque little lane. Everything in the house is spotlessly clean, all the appliances and amenities are in perfect order. The host, Mr Kuni, is thoughtful and kind, and very experienced receiving overseas guests. This would be a perfect home for a group of friends who enjoy peace and quiet. A few tips I would like to offer: (i) there is no sofa (we sit on big cushions around a low coffee / dining table) and the bathrooms are on a different floor from the bedrooms, so older visitors should take care; (ii) our host keeps the place very neat and tidy with beautiful Japanese adornments around the house, parents should take care with very young children so they do not swallow (or destroy) anything; (iii) if you are unfamiliar with the rubbish recycling system in Japan it is worth asking a few more questions to make sure - we were sometimes quite confused although I think we did manage not to mess things up too badly in the end. Overall, a lovely place to stay - highly recommended!!"
