Best Time to Visit Manila

Manila is located in the tropics, with the result that the weather is warm all year-round. The humidity levels are very high and the rainy season runs from May to December. It’s generally the wettest in August and September. In terms of weather, most people choose to visit Manila in the semi-dry season which runs from December to April. In general though, Manila can be visited year-round.

Getting to Manila Condos

Manila is the official capital city of the Philippines. The Ninoy Aquino International Airport is located eight kilometers from the city center. The airport has three terminals and receives mostly domestic and regional flights. If travelling from North America, you will have to route via one of the main hubs in the Far East such as Singapore, Hong Kong, Bangkok or Kuala Lumpur. There is an extensive rails system and light rail system in Manila which is the easiest way to get around this bustling city. There are taxis but the traffic congestion is so high in Manila that getting from place to place by road is very time consuming. For short distances, many of the locals use bicycles or pedalos which are bikes fitted with small engines.

Throughout the centuries, Manila has been occupied by various foreign nations. Its history is bloody and intricate with the result that the Philippino culture has had many international influences. The city sites are a collection of historical spots, monuments, museums and parks. Perhaps the most famous of the city sites is Rizal Park. It is named after Jose Rizal, a local hero who was executed by the Spanish for subversion. The 53-hectare park is one of the few public spaces in Manila and houses several historically important sites, including a monument to Jose Rizal, The National Museum of the Philippines, and The National Library of the Philippines.

For those with an interest in nature and horticulture, Rizal Park also has an orchidarium and a planetarium, The Manila Ocean Park and a Butterfly Pavilion which are all well worth visiting. There is also an open-air auditorium where cultural performances take place. The Children’s Museum and the Museum of Manila have interesting exhibits that are worth browsing.

In the city center is the Intramunos, a historic district with a rich collection of museums historic buildings and landmarks. Horse-drawn carriages still operate here, giving a sense of nostalgia.

When visiting the Intramunos, it’s a good idea to have a guide book with you to truly appreciate the area. The history and significance of the various sites is both detailed and interesting. Explore old forts with their ancient dungeons, visit magnificent churches and beautiful old colonial homes. The architecture showcases many different cultures. Spanish and European influence can be seen in the designs of many of the churches and old hotels in Manila.

Manila has a vibrant nightlife. The two popular tourist districts are Ermita and Malate. Here, you will find a wide range of restaurants, cafés, casinos, entertainment lounges, art galleries and an interesting collection of antique shops. In Binodo district is Chinatown where you can browse for bargains and crafts.
