Thailand Travel Tips
Getting to Thailand
Thailand has good air connections with other cities in Southeast Asia and around the globe. The main airport is in Bangkok and several domestic airports provide access to other regions. Bangkok International Airport hosts a wide variety of international airlines from around the world on regularly scheduled commercial flights. There is a good road and rail network but it is extremely congested in the cities. Driving is not recommended for foreigners. Instead, take a taxi or arrange a private transfer between the airports and your vacation homes. In many of the tourists areas, it quite easy to get around by bicycle. There are many local companies that hire bikes. If you are traveling to the islands, boat transfers can be easily arranged to hop from one island to another.
Activities and Attractions near Thailand
Thailand is a destination that appeals to people with a wide range of interests. It is a destination that is probably best known for its beautiful beaches and calm turquoise waters. Sun lovers and beach enthusiasts can spend their days lazing in the sun. Beach bars and restaurants provide refreshments and entertainment late into the night. Scuba divers can enjoy some spectacular coral reefs. Many are shallow enough to enjoy snorkeling and the water is warm enough to swim for hours. Boating excursions take you to uninhabited islands where you can explore caves and rainforests. There are towering walls for rock climbing and a number of trekking trails.
On land, Thailand is known for its excellent golf courses, affordable shopping and tasty cuisine. There are numerous golf courses along the coast which are highly ranted. Anywhere in Thailand, you can browse the street markets, spend some time haggling with the stall owners, and find yourself some excellent bargains. If you enjoy nature and trekking, the highland area near Chang Mai is the place to go. Here, you can experience rural Thailand at its best. Tall lush forests, towering mountain peaks and quaint villages tucked in among rice paddies and agricultural fields. For those who enjoy a bit of pampering, you can book yourself a treatment in one of the many spas. Thai massage is famous the world over and it is a wonderful way to relax on your vacation.
Best Time of Year to Visit Thailand Villas
In general, Thailand has a warm tropical climate that varies only moderately between the different regions. Temperatures are hot all year and humidity can get extreme during the summer months. For this reason, most travelers choose to visit during the cooler winter months. For the highland and central areas, November to March are generally considered the best times to travel. For the islands, such as Koh Samui, June through September is the favored time to visit.
Things to Remember When Traveling in Thailand
Thailand is a relatively inexpensive destination which means that if you plan carefully you can really stretch your travel budget. Take time to research the various destinations and decide what activities you want to do on your vacation. In that way, you can minimize the time spent traveling between destinations and instead enjoy all the sights that Thailand has to offer. When getting taxis and tuk tuks, agree on a price before you leave; otherwise, you find yourself paying a higher price when you get to your destination. Scooters and bicycles can be hired to get around but driving in the more built-up areas does sometimes require nerves of steel. The roads tend to be a chaotic mixture of vehicles, bicycles, scooters and pedestrians.
