In the wintertime, the area of Canmore becomes a ski haven. The Nordic Center has 70 kilometers of groomed trails and was host to the 1988 Calgary Winter Olympic Cross country skiing events. There is even a shorter 2.5 kilometer illuminated trail for night skiing. Other ski resorts in the area include Sunshine Valley, Lake Louise, Mount Norquay, and Nakiska Ski area which are all within a 60-minute drive from Canmore.
