Recent The Islands reviews

  • Oasis in Campbell River

"The house is absolutely charming, unique, beautifully furnished, and very well stocked. I appreciated how private and quiet the property is. The only noises were welcome… crashing waves and bird song. Despite very cold weather, I enjoyed my coffee or chai on the deck each AM, with the heaters turned on, and watched the hummingbird that visited the feeder just feet away from me. I could not ask for better hosts. Georges and Rumina are wonderful and their attention to detail is remarkable. I would love to return to Taste of Zanzibar at any time of the year."

  • Home away from Home

"We would echo all the outstanding reviews. We are Victorians who needed a second home during house renovations and we were blessed with the ambiance of Pied a Terre. If you like harbour life and marine activity, this location will fascinate you. Extremely well equipped with everything under the sun. Owner and Manager both very professional and nice to work with."

  • Great Place to get away can't beat the view from the hot tub

"Like others have already stated this isn't a brand new fancy dancy house on the beach. What it is though is a comfortable, large, private, secluded house that has everything you need and much more. the views from most of the rooms in this deceptively large home are second to none. Coffee on the deck while you watch the sea lions frolic not 100ft away from you anyone? Our dogs absolutely loved it. The beach is rocky but fun to walk up and down to see if you can find a treasure. This place would be a wonderful location for a larger family get together and is set up to accommodate kids. Take the advice on how to approach the driveway (from the north). Great little second hand store and convenience store just a short ten minute walk away that was definitely worth the visit. All of the items other posters had an issue with were fixed and the place was in good order (new fridge etc.). One of the absolute best features is the view both day and night from the modern sunken hot tub on the deck. Luckily the sky was clear so the stars were plentiful and the nearly full moon rose spectacularly above the mainland mountains. I would go back without hesitation and highly recommend the place. If your looking for shiny opulence then this might not be for you but it delivered its promise of paradise on your doorstep and is fully equipped for any size group with pretty much every amenity you need to have a fun relaxing time."

  • Amazing view and great location close to town!

"The house is in an incredible location, walking distance to town and Tonquin beach. We were wowed as soon as we walked in by the view from both inside the house and from the deck. Sunsets were incredible and we enjoyed watching the resident bald eagle as he swooped around the property. The beds were comfortable, the hot tub was well used and overall the house was a good deal for the money. The house was clean, well maintained and the property managers were pleasant to deal with. Our only complaint was regarding the kitchen....we as regular renters of vacation properties and "foodies" like to do quite a bit of cooking for ourselves. This kitchen was really not set up for that. The stove was not only very complicated to use, but also didn't work about 80% of the time. The dishwasher was iffy at times, the ice machine in the fridge didn't work, the BBQ not that great and the kitchen wasn't that well stocked with serving dishes. We had arranged for a personal chef (Darcy McBride of Dish Personal Chef Service) to cook for us one night and our meal was almost stymied by the stove quitting on us. Thank goodness for the hot plates we found in a storage closet upstairs. I would recommend putting in a simple "north american" gas stove, a new "north american dishwasher, and stocking the kitchen with some more serving dishes in order to make dining at home an easier experience. If you are planning on eating dinner at restaurants most nights, then this house is a perfect match. We highly recommend the Wolf in the Fog for dinner, Tacofino for lunch and Common Loaf for breakfast. Finally, if you are interested in having someone prepare meals for you, contact Darcy McBride #TofinoDish, our experience was incredible. Overall, I would go back to Pacific Retreat, in fact we plan to in August 2017!"
