  • Bowen Island hideaway idyll

"This lovely, seasoned and homey cottage was as welcoming and comfortable as we had hoped from the description and photos. The view was typically gorgeous west coast scenery and we appreciated the light show of the full moon over the water on our second night. We found it to be the quintessential vacation home, well stocked to meet every need; extremely comfortable furnishings; lots of books; some modern technological touches; and the patina of life. Blessed with a week of very warm and dry weather, we put the decks to good use, but we also managed three days of hikes, a swim in the sea off the dock, bird watching, and an afternoon of kayaking. There's a lovely 9-hole golf course on the island - but we'd left the clubs at home this time. The small commercial centre of Snug Cove was very convenient, a 10 minute drive from the cottage, and it provided all necessities, and places for coffee and a dinner and a breakfast out for us. While the access road to the cottage was steep and we did not own an all-wheel drive vehicle, these two active seniors found the five minute walk up to the road was not a deterrant. The description of the road condition and advice on its use was accurate and helpful. We only live an hour and a half away, but in an urban setting that seems a different world, and our goal of spending a week reading, relaxing, and re-connecting was well met in this lovely setting."

  • Stay at Long Lake, Nanaimo

"The description and photos correctly reflect the property which is located on the shore of Long Lake. I have stayed at this property twice in the fall season and found the property very cosy. The property is very well maintained both inside and out and spotless in cleanliness. The property is very well presented with quality fittings and appliances and internet access - everything that I needed for our stay. I was in contact with the owner Karin on occasions when arranging my stays and found her to be very warm, friendly and helpful. We had a hire car during both stays and the home was a great base for us to do our day trips. I could easily live in this home and location and have already recommended it to my friends. I look forward to returning again next year! This was my second stay at this property and I look forward to there being a third time!"

  • AMAZING HOME IN NANAIMO, BC

"This is our second time staying at the Hawthorne House (our first time was in 2012). We love this house, as it has everything a person could need. It truly feels like a home away from home. The house is beautiful, inside and out. It has a full patio with a gas BBQ and lovely landscaping. Inside, the house is very well stocked - ample towels and linens, fully stocked kitchen with dishes, small appliances and little extras like a fully stocked spice rack, welcoming fruit bowl and bottled water. The location is very central, and the neighborhood is quiet and friendly. We based ourselves from Nanaimo and traveled to Parksville, Qualicum Beach and as far as Campbell River for day trips. We can't wait to be back to Nanaimo, and would definitely stay at Hawthorne House again."

Mayne Island Travel Tips

Sheer Simplicity: Mayne Island Vacation Rentals

Settled in the Gulf of Georgia, among the southern regions of British Columbia, is Mayne Island; a picturesque stretch of sand and sun. This collection of lighthouses, heritage museums, and forestry provides the ideal location for those seeking a different kind of holiday. It will be a vacation without the frantic pace and even more frantic strangers. Surround yourself with local beauty and local charm, all from the comfort of one of the many Mayne Island vacation rentals.

Find Nature Once Again With Mayne Island Accommodations

For the family longing for a gentler escape, look no further than Mayne Island. There you will find an offering of biking trails (especially popular due to the distinct lack of traffic on the roads), pleasure cruises (complete with whale watching), and scheduled walkabouts. Learn of a celebrated history with such treats as the Plumper Pass Lockup, a jail turned museum. The famed Japanese Garden; which reflects the rare bursts of outside influences is also a family favorite. Discover this quaint destination and give your family something to enjoy every day. And, of course, enjoy every evening by returning to the comfort of your vacation home.

British Columbia Lodging Offers Elegance and Ease

Mayne Island is beautiful. Relax on the island your entire vacation to avoid the inconvenience of shuttling back to the mainland every afternoon, having to struggle to reach a hotel. Why not instead remain on the shoreline, nestled between the sea and spectacular views? Rental houses allow you to do that. Spend your vacation with the convenience of spacious rooms, centralized locations, and immediate access to fun.

Don’t waste your time with the common retreats. Flee instead to where there are languid hours, calm twilights, and the satisfaction of memories well made. Mayne Island is the perfect answer to your family’s vacation woes. It’s waiting.
