Our stay at the Sooke River Cottage was nothing short of amazing.
"As soon as we stepped onto this property, our breath was truly taken away. The outside of the cottage has a spanning yard space and a wraparound deck that is fitted with a picnic table, a barbecue, some lounge chairs and even a hot tub! The far end of the yard has steps that lead down to the Sooke River. We spent many days trekking up and down the river or just sitting near the bank admiring our incredible surroundings.
I hesitate calling the Sooke River Cottage a cottage at all because it is more like a dream home! Seriously, Gary and Meredith, I want a copy of the blueprints ;). The house has one master bedroom with a washroom just off of it, a spacious sitting and dining area and a loft with another bed and sitting area. The kitchen was fully-equipped with everything we could ever need. All we brought along were a couple spices and we were set for a week of good food! The decorating was impeccable and was filled with all kinds of subtle details that made the cottage feel like a real home. I certainly could have gotten used to living there!
When we weren't taking advantage of the amazing home and yard, we ventured out into the charming town of Sooke that has all the necessary amenities and some very friendly locals. If you go to the Village Foods Market, remember to mention you're a tourist - they give you a discount! We also found an off sale liquor store called Buffy's which we used when the provincial liquor board store was closed. The cottage was about an hour's drive from Victoria, and we enjoyed doing some sightseeing there as well.
One of my favourite things about the trip was visiting the Sooke River Potholes. It was only 1.5 kilometres from the cottage, and we were pleased with all the hiking we got to do there. We spent almost an entire day at the Potholes, hiking around, swimming, and just enjoying the scenery. It's a picture perfect place that is just steps away from the cottage - what could be better?
For beach-goers, we were about a 30-40 minute drive from the Juan de Fuca straight/ West Coast. We visited the popular French Beach, but my favourite spot was Sandcut Beach. It wasn't as busy, had a small hike from the parking lot to the beach, and we spent an entire day going up and down the beach enjoying the mountain view - fantastic!
Our stay in Sooke was truly phenomenal. Gary and Meredith were amazing hosts who were incredibly welcoming and kind. I hope we will be able to return again soon. You gotta stay here! :)"

"My husband and I booked this property to have some time with our family and their children. We felt so at home and taken care of. We always come to Sooke off season because of our jobs and find the weather on the island more tolerable then what we endure where we live. This house is a sanctuary and provides all we need, warmth, charm, comfort, convenience and a fantastic view. We love the sky lights and all the roaming room. The kitchen was just the right size and well stocked. I did miss my favourite knives lol. This so far has been our place of choice and have already booked next year. Kirk is a fantastic contact if you need anything and the Scott's are very easy to talk to and to deal with. Thanks for sharing your home with us."

"Arriving at the Heron Point House outside of Sooke, we immediately fell in love with the home, the site, the privacy and the amenities that were provided - the hot tub and beach, too. All we had to do was bring our own, personal items and some groceries we picked up, en route.
We found everything needed; sound system with the flexibility to direct the sound to specific parts of the property (inside & out) added to the experience. We even brought a couple of DVD's with us and were able to enjoy a family 'movie' night.
When preparing meals in the kitchen and on the BBQ; everything was close at hand. As needed, the house came supplied with almost everything needed to keep things neat and tidy. Miscellaneous items could be picked up locally.
On our last night in the unit, we decided to head out for a family meal at the 17 Mile Pub where, earlier in the week, we rode the nearby ADRENA-LINE Zip Line ride and had two full hours traversing the mountain face back down to the home base.
While in the area, took couple of trips out to the Sooke 'Potholes' swim area and found the first, large pool ideal for our wading, stone-skipping and stream-crossing fun! Other trips we enjoyed in town included: a lunch at the Old Venice (?) Bakery, ice cream at the Candy shop just across the street from the Bakery, the Meadery (think wine made with honey), nature watching, sunsets and jogging along East Sooke Road.
Overall. The owners were great people to deal with; due to circumstances beyond their control, we were not able to enjoy wood fires during our time as a result of the dry conditions on the Island. A great stay, indeed!"

"What an amazing week we spent at the Lighthouse Point retreat celebrating our 40th anniversary. Words just seem inadequate to express the peacefulness, solitude, and pure sense of tranquility that we experienced all week long. Every window had stunning views of either the ocean or the rain forest. No need for TV as the property manager Dawn (who is wonderful) summed it up.. you have the nature channel on 24/7. We saw sea otters, seals, hummingbirds, stellar jays, and had an eagle visit for a couple of days in a nearby tree. We took our chairs close to the ocean front.. my husband fishing off the rocks and myself, gazing at wind formations on the surface of the water, or the large ships in the distance or just listening to the waves crash on the rocks below. Food for the soul. We had our coffees and applies on the patio and ate all our meals ( except one) with an ocean view table!! Doesn't get any better. The cottage was very elegantly decorated and equipped with everything.. a coffee press which we love, washer and dryer, lovely dishes, impeccably clean bedding and linens and even a first aid kit. They have thought of everything!! This area around Sooke is beyond beautiful and we visited rain forests and amazing beaches that can take your breath away. This sweet cottage was the perfect place for us to celebrate our anniversary.. an oasis in the busyness of life. We left not wanting to leave and are hoping that we one day we can come again. Thank you Eleana."
