"We had a great time staying in June's cottage, such a great location, literally steps to the beach. June was very kind and attentive, making us feel very welcome. There is so much to explore nearby, or if you want to just kick back and relax, the gazebo off of the living area is perfect for a glass of wine and the sunset. We'll definitely be back, our only regret is that we couldn't stay longer!"

Our stay at the Sooke River Cottage was nothing short of amazing.
"As soon as we stepped onto this property, our breath was truly taken away. The outside of the cottage has a spanning yard space and a wraparound deck that is fitted with a picnic table, a barbecue, some lounge chairs and even a hot tub! The far end of the yard has steps that lead down to the Sooke River. We spent many days trekking up and down the river or just sitting near the bank admiring our incredible surroundings.
I hesitate calling the Sooke River Cottage a cottage at all because it is more like a dream home! Seriously, Gary and Meredith, I want a copy of the blueprints ;). The house has one master bedroom with a washroom just off of it, a spacious sitting and dining area and a loft with another bed and sitting area. The kitchen was fully-equipped with everything we could ever need. All we brought along were a couple spices and we were set for a week of good food! The decorating was impeccable and was filled with all kinds of subtle details that made the cottage feel like a real home. I certainly could have gotten used to living there!
When we weren't taking advantage of the amazing home and yard, we ventured out into the charming town of Sooke that has all the necessary amenities and some very friendly locals. If you go to the Village Foods Market, remember to mention you're a tourist - they give you a discount! We also found an off sale liquor store called Buffy's which we used when the provincial liquor board store was closed. The cottage was about an hour's drive from Victoria, and we enjoyed doing some sightseeing there as well.
One of my favourite things about the trip was visiting the Sooke River Potholes. It was only 1.5 kilometres from the cottage, and we were pleased with all the hiking we got to do there. We spent almost an entire day at the Potholes, hiking around, swimming, and just enjoying the scenery. It's a picture perfect place that is just steps away from the cottage - what could be better?
For beach-goers, we were about a 30-40 minute drive from the Juan de Fuca straight/ West Coast. We visited the popular French Beach, but my favourite spot was Sandcut Beach. It wasn't as busy, had a small hike from the parking lot to the beach, and we spent an entire day going up and down the beach enjoying the mountain view - fantastic!
Our stay in Sooke was truly phenomenal. Gary and Meredith were amazing hosts who were incredibly welcoming and kind. I hope we will be able to return again soon. You gotta stay here! :)"

"First time being in Sooke and we decided to stay at the Surfside Cottage. The cottage really made our trip. It has everything you need to just stay in and relax. Full working kitchen, BBQ outside and a outdoor hot tub. It slept 6 of us comfortably. The cottage it right on the edge of the coast so the view was amazing. There is a wooden bridge and staircase that leads down to the peddle beach. The beach is super private. Such a great place."

"Arriving at the Heron Point House outside of Sooke, we immediately fell in love with the home, the site, the privacy and the amenities that were provided - the hot tub and beach, too. All we had to do was bring our own, personal items and some groceries we picked up, en route.
We found everything needed; sound system with the flexibility to direct the sound to specific parts of the property (inside & out) added to the experience. We even brought a couple of DVD's with us and were able to enjoy a family 'movie' night.
When preparing meals in the kitchen and on the BBQ; everything was close at hand. As needed, the house came supplied with almost everything needed to keep things neat and tidy. Miscellaneous items could be picked up locally.
On our last night in the unit, we decided to head out for a family meal at the 17 Mile Pub where, earlier in the week, we rode the nearby ADRENA-LINE Zip Line ride and had two full hours traversing the mountain face back down to the home base.
While in the area, took couple of trips out to the Sooke 'Potholes' swim area and found the first, large pool ideal for our wading, stone-skipping and stream-crossing fun! Other trips we enjoyed in town included: a lunch at the Old Venice (?) Bakery, ice cream at the Candy shop just across the street from the Bakery, the Meadery (think wine made with honey), nature watching, sunsets and jogging along East Sooke Road.
Overall. The owners were great people to deal with; due to circumstances beyond their control, we were not able to enjoy wood fires during our time as a result of the dry conditions on the Island. A great stay, indeed!"
