"My friends and I wanted a relaxing birthday getaway for a few days. I was so impressed with the great customer service from the owner Jon. He was quick at responding to any questions we had, and gave us great recommendations for the area. There is a beautiful quite beach just 5 minutes walking distance, and a variety of hiking trails in the area. The kitchen is fully equipped with all the essentials including a blender. The 2 bedrooms were small which was not an issue, and they had Queen size beds and one even had a TV if needed. The living room had everything you'd want in a cabin. There is lot's of wood provided so you can cozy up by the fireplace giving it a real cabin like feeling. Just to add to the ambience, the outdoor electric fire pit was a nice touch. The patio outside had a nice BBQ and patio table with some lounge chairs. Even though it was chilly, we still enjoyed sitting there surrounded by the trees. The rocks around the outside are painted with cute animals, flowers, etc... This added such a nice touch to the gardens. I'd have to say our highlight of this cabin was the hot tub area. Jon cleaned the hot tub before our arrival, which showed he really takes care and pride in his property. The hot tub was surrounded by trees giving it a true outdoor feel. Trips like this make me realize how lucky I am to live in BC. We'll for sure be back!"

"My husband and I and our two well-traveled canines welcomed the new year at this very comfortable and well-equipped home, and enjoyed every minute of our week-long stay. Though we have visited Porpoise Bay Provincial Park off-season with our dogs on many occasions in the past, we had never driven three minutes further north along the same road to the community of Tuwanek. Our bad! Carmel Cottage is an ideal hideaway while touring the Sunshine Coast and walking/hiking its many trails, minutes from all amenities but in a very tranquil setting. We were fortunate to have a full week of dry (but cold) weather, and especially enjoyed the radiant floor heat keeping us warm. We also attracted two hummingbirds with a fresh batch of syrup in the feeder, and spent as much time watching them as the TV. Such is the charm of Carmel Cottage...
Lastly, one of the highlights of our week was walking the many trails of Hidden Grove. The trails are well-maintained, clearly marked and absolutely ideal for humans and canines alike, so much that we made a donation - tax-deductible at that! - to support the efforts of the volunteers who care for the trails.
All-in-all, a most enjoyable stay!"

"My husband and I stayed at Grumpy Cat Cottage for 12 nights, with our adult children and their dogs visiting for part of that stay. We found the cottage to be exactly as described; clean, comfortable, and the large property and waterfront area was enjoyed every day of our stay. It was wonderful to be able to have bonfires in the evenings (the fire ban was lifted) and John provided lots of firewood. Leslie and John left a surprising amount of groceries in the cottage which made us feel even more welcomed. We loved Sechelt and the surrounding areas and totally enjoyed exploring the many beaches and parks in that part of the Sunshine Coast. As adults, we were all very comfortable at Grumpy Cat; however, we did find the noise from the seaplanes very loud and irritating which is something one probably gets used to in time. There was also a lot of hammering and banging going on during the day from house construction next door; again, there was nothing John or Leslie could do about that and by next summer that intrusion should be a thing of the past. I would certainly come back to Grumpy Cat Cottage again but I would not bring small children or the elderly there IF needing to use the 'loft' bedroom for them. It is simply too hazardous of a climb for small children or anyone with a disability. The other two bedrooms on the main floor are perfectly comfortable. Knowing that John and Leslie were next door was a comfort if we needed anything, but they gave us our privacy and we never felt 'watched'. Overall, our vacation was a bounding success and we would love to return to Sechelt again in the near future. Thanks John and Leslie; Grumpy Cat Cottage is a lovely property."

"Since discovering this gem, we have now returned for our 3rd summer. This is the perfect place for families to visit the Sunshine Coast, providing a large deck with a breathtakingly stunning view down the Sechelt Inlet (I have seen many amazing views in my life and this is definitely one of the finest), an expansive green space to play and lounge on - with a hot tub too - and then a sheltered beach cove with calm, shallow water to beachcomb at low tide (bring water shoes) and lots of swimming options as the tide comes in. The place comes with boats and kayaks you can borrow too! You are only a 10 minute drive from Sechelt village with cafes, shopping and groceries, and yet you feel like you are on a remote island getaway. It is very spacious with a comfortable homey feel. 2 minute drive from Porpoise Bay for a sandy beach, and also from Hidden Grove Hiking trails. We love it!"
