  • Rental During House Reno

"We stayed here while some work was being done on our house. The house is near downtown and right around the corner from the Propeller Brewery which is convenient! The house is an older home but has a lot of charm with old floors, high ceilings, and moldings which was cool especially if you live in a more modern place. The house is across the street from the huge skating Oval for winter use (with free skates), and the Halifax Common, although not very green in the winter. Even though it was winter we used the BBQ in the backyard a lot... it would be amazing in summer as it is sheltered and private. We used only two bedrooms but all were well equipped. I saw a note about beds... the beds were fine and it appears that the one my wife and I used appeared brand new (plastic on box spring). The washer and dryer worked great and there is a great ice cream/burrito/coffee spot call DeeDee's around the corner. We had friends drop in a fair bit and this place is great for entertaining by itself and because it's right by all the restos/bars/events downtown. We parked mainly on the street and used the owners driveway next door and had no problem at all. The owners were available on phone/text all the time and helped with any questions or anything we needed. Overall, a great time, and while we were glad to get home, I would recommend to anyone, especially groups and those in town for weddings/events."

  • Perfect Pear!

"This property is located one block's walk from the center of Mahone Bay: a small town with delicious restaurants, a well-stocked grocery store, and sport rentals galore! We were able to walk to kayak rentals, do local hikes, and rent bicycles without starting the car. The accommodations are clean, beds comfortable, plenty of hot water for showers. It met our needs perfectly! The hosts live on the property, which was handy for when we had a question about other expeditions further away. High marks"

  • Wonderful Family Retreat

"We stayed there with another couple in October, 2914 during the peak of foliage season. The house is isolated and has a spectacular water view. A kayak and canoe are provided for use in the pond behind the house. There are many walking trails on the property with lot of room for the kids and dogs to play outside. For those that want to travel, The Writer's Retreat is centrally located in Nova Scotia with easy access to Cape Breton, the Cabot Trail and the Ceildh Trail. It is also possible to do day trips to Halifax and PEI. Antigonish is just 20 minutes away. The house is nicely decorated and has 5 deck with great views. The upper level with the master bedroom, bathroom and a sitting area with a desk is especially attractive. The owner is extremely accommodating and friendly and has caregivers nearby if needed in her absence. Staying at The Writer's Retreat was a great decision. It provided a home away from home for a fabulous vacation!"

  • A Perfect Couple's Get-Away

"My husband and I were looking for a lovely get-away to celebrate our 25th anniversary, and we found it in Bear River, Nova Scotia. The Bear River Winery was fantastic. It was easy to find, convenient to the highway and full of charm. Our host and hostess were very warm and generous. They gave us a private tour, a bottle of wine, and made us feel welcome to explore the vineyard, which includes a secluded cabin by the river, perfect for watching the tide rise and fall and the sun set. The accommodations include a microwave, refrigerator and a table with a view if you choose to eat in. The village is two minutes down the road where Myrtle and Rosie's will take good care of you and serve up a first class breakfast. Bear River is a tidal village so you can experience the extremes of the Bay of Fundy tides. Digby is a few minutes away with plenty of shopping and places to dine. We loved our stay and plan to return."
