"We stayed here while some work was being done on our house. The house is near downtown and right around the corner from the Propeller Brewery which is convenient! The house is an older home but has a lot of charm with old floors, high ceilings, and moldings which was cool especially if you live in a more modern place. The house is across the street from the huge skating Oval for winter use (with free skates), and the Halifax Common, although not very green in the winter. Even though it was winter we used the BBQ in the backyard a lot... it would be amazing in summer as it is sheltered and private. We used only two bedrooms but all were well equipped. I saw a note about beds... the beds were fine and it appears that the one my wife and I used appeared brand new (plastic on box spring). The washer and dryer worked great and there is a great ice cream/burrito/coffee spot call DeeDee's around the corner. We had friends drop in a fair bit and this place is great for entertaining by itself and because it's right by all the restos/bars/events downtown. We parked mainly on the street and used the owners driveway next door and had no problem at all. The owners were available on phone/text all the time and helped with any questions or anything we needed. Overall, a great time, and while we were glad to get home, I would recommend to anyone, especially groups and those in town for weddings/events."

"We've rented homes on VRBO for 13 years but this one was simply outstanding and among the very best we've ever rented. The photos were great and certainly do the property justice, but the actual setting is even more beautiful. The home is very comfortable, spacious, well equipped, and in a perfect location to get away from everything and relax.
Bill was very gracious in welcoming us to his home and showing us around. Beyond that, he offered a variety of great suggestions on things to do in the area, ranging from kayaking and biking to local restaurants and nearby towns to visit. At Bill's suggestion, we visited Rhubarb -- a nearby restaurant -- and found the food to be incredible.
We spent the days exploring the area and the nights enjoying just sitting, talking and taking in the view from the deck. Each morning we woke to our own private view of the water (this home is nicely secluded) and, at night, enjoyed the stars from this piece of heaven. It was also great to take walks at dusk and observe the wildlife. We saw everything from a porcupine to a bald eagle in the area, which really excited our kids. In addition, several large and majestic deer wandered across the property each morning. If we ever return to Nova Scotia we'd stay at Bill's place in a heartbeat. We can't think of any place that could have been more perfect. Bill, thank you for opening your home to our family and all of your wonderful suggestions for things to do and see in the area. Your personal touch made our vacation even more enjoyable!"

"We spent one week at the cottage back in 2011 so when I had the chance to spend my sabbatical of 4 weeks there I jumped at the idea. It was the perfect place to spend an extended time away to relax, renew, and rejuvenate ourselves. We enjoyed waking up each morning and spending time on the porch drinking coffee while we watched the constant parade of seabirds going here and there. We saw new ones we did not know existed which as a family of auks (murres) with their little white chests as they would dive underneath the water searching for food. We saw other birds that are not seabirds also, such as two bald eagles and an osprey. We saw a seal out in the bay twice as he swam here and there. It was a wonderful place to relax and enjoy nature.
The cottage does not have television or the internet which was also great. For four weeks we never heard a negative news story about wars or strife or world problems. We listened to a station in French on the radio so that we heard a variety of music in both English and French but could not understand anything the announcers would say. Having a break from the media was great in that it allowed me to read 6 books while I was there also, something I need to do more often but do not seem to find the time while at home.
We cooked in the well-supplied kitchen daily and got the hang of sorting out the trash for recycling, which is something that Nova Scotia leads Canada in and beats most of the US in doing. It was no problem, just something that we did since that is the way that people live in Nova Scotia. We got our seafood at the nearby Nautical Seafoods, just up the hill from the cottage and enjoyed scallops on a regular basis. We shopped the Saturday Market in Annapolis Royal each week and drove to the Wednesday Market in Kentville on three different Wednesdays. We looked around the area and took day trips here and there exploring the Acadian Coast and the Annapolis Valley. The farthest from the cottage we went was for a night away on Cape Breton Island where we attended a Ceilidh and had some fabulous chowder. Otherwise, we stayed within 100 kilometers of the cottage most of the time.
I would highly recommend this cottage for anyone who wants peace and quiet and tranquility. It was just what we wanted in order to recharge our emotional batteries."

"The cottage is absolutely beautiful and the pictures truly don't do it justice. We had our annual family weekend here and everyone was comfortable and we were never bored! Between beach combing, fishing, going into Arisaig for lobster, and ping pong in the basement, we had full days each day! You literally have your own personal ocean beach, it's amazing! Cozy inside and tons of space outside, you won't be disappointed. Debbie is more than helpful with anything you need and will answer any questions you have. A great weekend!!"
