  • A Magical House in a Gorgeous Setting

"The photos do not do this house justice. It is wonderfully designed to be practical, comfortable, and yet architecturally stunning. No matter where you sit or stand or whether you look up or down the house itself has beautiful lines and and fascinating colors. The use of color and the various woods and stonework used throughout is beautifully done and will send your spirits soaring. Bill is not only an engineer, but an artist. And that's just the house itself. Wait until you experience the views, the serenity, and your escape from the trials and tribulations of every day life. but if you must, there's internet and Halifax is only about 30 minutes away. But be sure to go the other way and experience the beauty of the lighthouse route including Peggy's Cove, Indian Harbour (be sure to stop at Rhubarb for some seafood chowder or mussels), St. Margaret's bay and on to Mahone Bay and Lunesburg. And enjoy your day but come back to this magical house for sunset on the deck. We ate dinner there every night as well and it appears Bill is also a chef as he has a great kitchen with every implement and spice you can think of. And others have mentioned it but we will too...Bill is a great guy period and so wonderful to work with. Go...it's perfect!"

  • Serenity by the Sea

"The first impression....Pretty, light filled home beautifully appointed with an eclectic mix of antique and modern furnishings...But, it is the view that draws you. Nothing short of gorgeous..sitting high above the cove, surrounded by forest, a few sailboats moored nearby, the water glass-like calm. The effect? Instant serenity. My family and I spent a week at Deep Cove. I appreciated the owner, Janet's obvious fine taste in furnishings but also the fact that the house was immaculate! Good linens, comfortable beds, clean and above average (marble!) bathrooms. A vase of fresh flowers and candles too! My husband, who is the real cook in the family said the kitchen was the best he had seen in a vacation home and we have been renting for twenty years! Very well stocked with good quality dishes, cutlery, knives and pots and pans, all of which made our dinners a pleasure to prepare. The expansive screened in porch is the real treasure here. We used it to sit in the sun and savour morning coffee and at night, candlelit, with a good bottle of wine spent hours enjoying the air and just chatting. This is a very restful place. And although you do have to drive to other spots such as the town of Chester for supplies, it is a mere 15 minute trip. Bayswater, a lovely sandy beach is just twenty minutes away. And the wonderful towns of Lunenburg (World heritage site...wear your walking shoes for the hills!, Home of the famed Bluenose sailboat) and Mahone Bay, even Halifax are less than an hour away. Janet is also a pleasure to deal with; kind enough to give us information that only a local would know. We truly hope to return one day. Thanks to you Janet for sharing your special place."

  • Relaxing March Break!

"We had a wonderful week at Harbour's Reach during March break. Cheryl and Tony were wonderful hosts. The house was clean, warm and welcoming. The views were breathtaking and it was a perfect location to visit Peggy's Cove as well as Halifax. I would certainly recommend this home to anyone who is looking for a quiet relaxing holiday."

  • Four Weeks in Paradise

"We spent one week at the cottage back in 2011 so when I had the chance to spend my sabbatical of 4 weeks there I jumped at the idea. It was the perfect place to spend an extended time away to relax, renew, and rejuvenate ourselves. We enjoyed waking up each morning and spending time on the porch drinking coffee while we watched the constant parade of seabirds going here and there. We saw new ones we did not know existed which as a family of auks (murres) with their little white chests as they would dive underneath the water searching for food. We saw other birds that are not seabirds also, such as two bald eagles and an osprey. We saw a seal out in the bay twice as he swam here and there. It was a wonderful place to relax and enjoy nature. The cottage does not have television or the internet which was also great. For four weeks we never heard a negative news story about wars or strife or world problems. We listened to a station in French on the radio so that we heard a variety of music in both English and French but could not understand anything the announcers would say. Having a break from the media was great in that it allowed me to read 6 books while I was there also, something I need to do more often but do not seem to find the time while at home. We cooked in the well-supplied kitchen daily and got the hang of sorting out the trash for recycling, which is something that Nova Scotia leads Canada in and beats most of the US in doing. It was no problem, just something that we did since that is the way that people live in Nova Scotia. We got our seafood at the nearby Nautical Seafoods, just up the hill from the cottage and enjoyed scallops on a regular basis. We shopped the Saturday Market in Annapolis Royal each week and drove to the Wednesday Market in Kentville on three different Wednesdays. We looked around the area and took day trips here and there exploring the Acadian Coast and the Annapolis Valley. The farthest from the cottage we went was for a night away on Cape Breton Island where we attended a Ceilidh and had some fabulous chowder. Otherwise, we stayed within 100 kilometers of the cottage most of the time. I would highly recommend this cottage for anyone who wants peace and quiet and tranquility. It was just what we wanted in order to recharge our emotional batteries."
