  • Just What We Were Hoping For

"Xanadu By the Sea was exactly what we had hoped for. The house was beautiful and the location can't be beat. What's not to love when you can get your coffee, step out the front door, and watch/listen to the waves crashing on the shore...an absolutely beautiful setting. Thanks, Paul and Heidi, for including us in your Thanksgiving celebration. What a special time that was. We enjoyed getting to know your family very much. Oh, be sure and give Bella an extra treat for us! We're dog lovers too, so it was nice to have her pop over for a visit. Thanks again for making your piece of paradise available so others can enjoy it too. God bless."

  • beautiful spot, relaxing getaway

"we stayed at starfish hill for two weeks in June 2014. amazing things about the property: - pet friendly - we brought our two dogs with us and they had a blast in the ocean and running around the property. the cottage is FAR from a main road so we weren't worried about them at all. - very few bugs - i really hate mosquitos and we found that being by the river/ocean really helped with this. there was often a lovely breeze keeping things nice and fresh. - close to "civilization" - being at this cottage you feel away from it all, but bridgewater is a 15 minute drive away for groceries, drug stores, some restaurants. traveling with a small baby, it was great to be so close to amenities if we needed them. - the cottage itself obviously! - the furnishings are beautiful, the view is even better. we loved making fires in the evenings and sitting out on the deck for breakfasts. - the setup - this cottage stocks almost everything you need! lots of towels, clean sheets on the bed, lots of dishes and glasses, full size fridge and great having a washer and dryer. i loved hanging my clothes on the line to dry, everything was so fresh and crisp! - no TV, but great WIFI - i loved not having a tv. we had an iPad and when my husband HAD to watch baseball games, he got a great connection through the wifi and could watch anything on his iPad. - the owners and caretakers - all fabulous! we had a small problem with the deck umbrella and a gentleman came the very next day and fixed it. great communication. - anyone with kids - they have a great setup for kids. there was a pack n play waiting for me, there are fun bunk beds, and they have a ton of great toys in the shed for older kids to play with. we are already talking about our next visit to starfish hill!"

  • Serenity by the Sea

"The first impression....Pretty, light filled home beautifully appointed with an eclectic mix of antique and modern furnishings...But, it is the view that draws you. Nothing short of gorgeous..sitting high above the cove, surrounded by forest, a few sailboats moored nearby, the water glass-like calm. The effect? Instant serenity. My family and I spent a week at Deep Cove. I appreciated the owner, Janet's obvious fine taste in furnishings but also the fact that the house was immaculate! Good linens, comfortable beds, clean and above average (marble!) bathrooms. A vase of fresh flowers and candles too! My husband, who is the real cook in the family said the kitchen was the best he had seen in a vacation home and we have been renting for twenty years! Very well stocked with good quality dishes, cutlery, knives and pots and pans, all of which made our dinners a pleasure to prepare. The expansive screened in porch is the real treasure here. We used it to sit in the sun and savour morning coffee and at night, candlelit, with a good bottle of wine spent hours enjoying the air and just chatting. This is a very restful place. And although you do have to drive to other spots such as the town of Chester for supplies, it is a mere 15 minute trip. Bayswater, a lovely sandy beach is just twenty minutes away. And the wonderful towns of Lunenburg (World heritage site...wear your walking shoes for the hills!, Home of the famed Bluenose sailboat) and Mahone Bay, even Halifax are less than an hour away. Janet is also a pleasure to deal with; kind enough to give us information that only a local would know. We truly hope to return one day. Thanks to you Janet for sharing your special place."

  • Great place to spend a vacation

"We stayed for 10 nights at this wonderful home, the kids loved it the moment they stepped in. The house has a very cozy relaxig feel to it and the fresh ocean air makes a great place to escape the heat. The beach is really just 2mins to walk and is very clean and nice to spend some time. The lighthouse and the rocks provide a nice lookout point. The central location makes is great for easy excursions to Halifax, Lunenburg and Peggy's Cove. We used the kayak rental from ECO twice, the backbay is very safe to paddle with 2 little ones. Unfortunately time flew by too fast and we would have liked to stay longer:-) Very good place to stay for a couple with or without kids and dogs. Our dogs loved the hikes along the coast and into the village."
