"We stayed there with another couple in October, 2914 during the peak of foliage season. The house is isolated and has a spectacular water view. A kayak and canoe are provided for use in the pond behind the house.
There are many walking trails on the property with lot of room for the kids and dogs to play outside.
For those that want to travel, The Writer's Retreat is centrally located in Nova Scotia with easy access to Cape Breton, the Cabot Trail and the Ceildh Trail. It is also possible to do day trips to Halifax and PEI. Antigonish is just 20 minutes away.
The house is nicely decorated and has 5 deck with great views. The upper level with the master bedroom, bathroom and a sitting area with a desk is especially attractive.
The owner is extremely accommodating and friendly and has caregivers nearby if needed in her absence.
Staying at The Writer's Retreat was a great decision. It provided a home away from home for a fabulous vacation!"

"Far Far Away Guesthouse is comfortable, cozy and uniquely styled- we enjoyed the decor and artwork. Jay was sweet to leave us a card and bottle of wine as I mentioned it was our anniversary. He was easy to communicate with, very laid back, and overall the perfect host.
The cottage is well stocked with extras and some basic food supplies- coffee, sugar, etc, so there is very little one would need to run to the store to get. Close to Mahone Bay (Mug & Anchor restaurant, Jennifer's Bakery are MUSTS) and Chester Basin, (The Galley was wonderful/romantic). The Chester Connector trail goes over the Gold River and along the old train route- we found the area breathtaking. The beauty of this spot is it's out-of-the-way location, while being close to everything one comes to Nova Scotia to see.
Caveats: The bathroom is quite cramped, but we managed. The water pump was so loud I didn't wish to flush the toilet or take an early morning shower because I didn't wish to awaken my partner. But I wouldn't hestitate to come back to visit again- I'd just bring earplugs for my honey.
It fit with our style of traveling- a base camp for our explorations. It's less than an hour from Ross Farm Museum up Route 12, Martock (OnTree Park) up route 14 and Halifax, up highway 103."

"This is a fabulous vacation home! This is not the first time we have rented a vacation home in Cape Breton but this was the best! The views and the sunsets are spectacular. It's so cozy, quiet and private yet close to shopping, beaches and restaurants. The house is very welcoming and tastefully decorated. It is very clean and FULLY stocked with all of the necessities.....the owners didn't miss a thing.
I knew when I first contacted Vicki that this was going to be a flawless vacation. And it was!"

"This was our second year staying at the cottage, and we are already talking about when we want to book for next year. It's fully equipped with everything you'll need, just pack your clothes and some groceries and your set! Our group had 4 adults and 2 kids, and there was plenty of room. There was even a high chair for the little guy! The life guarded beach is a 2 minute walk over the sand dunes. The water is warm(ish) and shallow, perfect for kids. We didn't do a lot of exploring in the area because we like to spend our time on the beach, but we ate at the Clove & Hitch (good), The Bus (decent), and Bikinis and Trunks Ice Cream (good). Cellphone reception is poor in the area (we had Rogers & Bell phones), but there is wifi in the house and a landline."
