  • Home away from home in Antigonish

"We found the perfect spot for family reunion at the Artist's Beach House. The house and setting reminded us of home with a great porch overlooking the bay on beautiful grounds that were private and even remote, yet only 10 minutes from Antigonish. The house was clean and well kept - so comfortable whether dining together, relaxing or enjoying cocktails in the sun room or on the deck. The kitchen was well equipped, beds were comfortable and there were lots of activities on the grounds as well as kayaking on the bay. The location was well situated for daytrips exploring the coast and Cape Breton Island. Tiiu, the owner, was a gracious hostess - welcoming, friendly and very helpful in suggesting things to do and paces to eat. We felt like we made a friend and we certainly made ourselves at home at our new friend's home."

  • A Sweetheart of a Place

"Far Far Away Guesthouse is comfortable, cozy and uniquely styled- we enjoyed the decor and artwork. Jay was sweet to leave us a card and bottle of wine as I mentioned it was our anniversary. He was easy to communicate with, very laid back, and overall the perfect host. The cottage is well stocked with extras and some basic food supplies- coffee, sugar, etc, so there is very little one would need to run to the store to get. Close to Mahone Bay (Mug & Anchor restaurant, Jennifer's Bakery are MUSTS) and Chester Basin, (The Galley was wonderful/romantic). The Chester Connector trail goes over the Gold River and along the old train route- we found the area breathtaking. The beauty of this spot is it's out-of-the-way location, while being close to everything one comes to Nova Scotia to see. Caveats: The bathroom is quite cramped, but we managed. The water pump was so loud I didn't wish to flush the toilet or take an early morning shower because I didn't wish to awaken my partner. But I wouldn't hestitate to come back to visit again- I'd just bring earplugs for my honey. It fit with our style of traveling- a base camp for our explorations. It's less than an hour from Ross Farm Museum up Route 12, Martock (OnTree Park) up route 14 and Halifax, up highway 103."

  • Serenity by the Sea

"The first impression....Pretty, light filled home beautifully appointed with an eclectic mix of antique and modern furnishings...But, it is the view that draws you. Nothing short of gorgeous..sitting high above the cove, surrounded by forest, a few sailboats moored nearby, the water glass-like calm. The effect? Instant serenity. My family and I spent a week at Deep Cove. I appreciated the owner, Janet's obvious fine taste in furnishings but also the fact that the house was immaculate! Good linens, comfortable beds, clean and above average (marble!) bathrooms. A vase of fresh flowers and candles too! My husband, who is the real cook in the family said the kitchen was the best he had seen in a vacation home and we have been renting for twenty years! Very well stocked with good quality dishes, cutlery, knives and pots and pans, all of which made our dinners a pleasure to prepare. The expansive screened in porch is the real treasure here. We used it to sit in the sun and savour morning coffee and at night, candlelit, with a good bottle of wine spent hours enjoying the air and just chatting. This is a very restful place. And although you do have to drive to other spots such as the town of Chester for supplies, it is a mere 15 minute trip. Bayswater, a lovely sandy beach is just twenty minutes away. And the wonderful towns of Lunenburg (World heritage site...wear your walking shoes for the hills!, Home of the famed Bluenose sailboat) and Mahone Bay, even Halifax are less than an hour away. Janet is also a pleasure to deal with; kind enough to give us information that only a local would know. We truly hope to return one day. Thanks to you Janet for sharing your special place."

  • Super location, Super Home!

"We chose Sunrise at Sol Point for our family vacation after reviewing many different properties on Home & Away and other sites. The previous reviews were all extremely positive which brought it to our attention more readily. Well, it did not disappoint. Simply an amazing home with all amenities you would want for a vacation on the east coast. The four kayaks and life jackets were an added treat and well used during our 10 day stay. A five minute drive to Peggy's Cove, lots of little islands to kayak to and around, about 30 minute drive to downtown Halifax - all good. We barbecued and did most of our meals in the well equipped kitchen. The living room easily accommodated our five adults and two children and the four bedrooms are all roomy enough for comfort, especially the master bedroom with huge ensuite bathroom. We will be back for another east coast vacation and to Sunrise at Sol Point."
