  • Amazing long weekend with friends from High School!

"Every year we like to get together as a group and Lana’s place was by far the best location we’ve stayed at so far. The house was spotless. The view when you walk through the front door is breathtaking. The house is simply amazing. It truly has everything you could possibly need. We knew we wanted to prepare a lot of meals at the house so Lana offered to do our grocery shopping before we arrived. It was great to not have to spend time in a grocery store when we arrived. The beach was beautiful and so clean. I only wish the weather was a bit warmer so that we could have hopped in. We had a fire going every night on the deck. Lana was very attentive to our every need. I booked the house months in advance and we had tons of questions along the way. She answered every email, phone call, etc in a timely manner. Her recommendation for dinner out at the Smokin Buddha was exceptional. We went there on our last night. I’m still dreaming of my Butter Chicken. Great recommendation, Lana! We are planning our next trip back soon! Thank you for making our trip so memorable!"

  • Even better than the photos

"This property exceeded our expectations. The location was great, convenient to public transportation and with lots of restaurants and shops within a couple of blocks. We found the apartment spotless and quite charming...even better than the photos... with lots of natural light on the main floor. Having the two bedrooms on two different levels worked really well for us. I appreciated the well-stocked kitchen and comfortable furniture. We enjoyed eating meals on the deck. The rental process, from inquiry to arrival to departure, was smooth and easy, and Paulette responded quickly to our questions. I've used VRBO a number of times, and this has been our best experience. I highly recommend this property. Try Lola's Kitchen and the Indian restaurant next door to Lola's--both great choices with many gluten free options."

  • Central Ottawa

"We loved the charming Victorian home with its beautiful and interesting art pieces. The location was ideal for walking to various Ottawa landmarks. The backyard was very comfortable for relaxing outside with lots of space for our group. We all agreed that the home would be fabulous in Winter, Spring or Fall. The third floor while very spacious and quaint tended to be hot even with the fans provided. The owner was very accommodating and honest. Overall we would definitely use this property again!"

  • Perfect house for Toronto visit with kids!

"We loved staying on this quiet, lovely street. Loved how every house in the neighborhood was slightly different and most every one was well kept up. So nice to be in a neighborhood with real families vs. being in a hotel! Less than 5 minute walk to the subway and 6-8 quick stops into the heart of Toronto. 1.5 block walk to Danforth where we had several delicious meals (Wazema, The Wren, The Signature Kitchen, breakfast at the Patisserie 1 block over), and were able to buy simple groceries. Loved how multicultural the area was and very safe. 1 block away from 2 playgrounds and parks. The house itself was also perfect - very clean, well stocked kitchen. We should have put our kids on the futon but didn't notice it was one until we'd already used the bed and didn't want to muss up new sheets - all the beds are quiet high. I had a look around on google earth before we went which was fun as I was already familiar with some of the local shops/restaurants. Check out the nearby comic book store too! Lots of good kids comics. Thank you Lissa for sharing your lovely home! We enjoyed the board games provided as well."

There is also a regular intercity bus schedule that stops in Kenora. Many visitors prefer to drive there so that they can do some exploring of their own around the lake during their stay. There are several scenic drives around the lake area that are particularly beautiful in the summer and fall seasons

Activities and Things to Do by Lake of the Woods Lodging

With more than 14,000 islands and 105,000 kilometers of shoreline, Lake of the Woods offers great recreational opportunities. Fishing is enjoyed year-round. In the summer months, anglers can expect to hook walleye, muskie, small mouth bass and pike. In the winter months, ice fishing competitions have produced some impressive trophies.

Canoeing and boating are other popular pastimes. If you don’t have your own boat, you can hire one or make use of fishing or sailing charter companies. Drifting along on the calm lake waters is one of the most relaxing ways to spend an afternoon.

Most of the lake areas are protected National Parks where bird watching, wildlife viewing and nature walks can be enjoyed. This is a great place for a family vacation where you can introduce your kids to nature and teach them to appreciate its beauty.

In the wintertime, the many forest trails are opened for cross country skiing and snowmobiling. Not all trails are groomed but you will be able to find out more details from the local information center. It’s also a good idea to check in with the local snowmobile club on the trail conditions so that you know which routes to explore. Maps and route guides are available and essential if you plan to head out on your own. Alternatively, you can join up with one of the commercially guided snowmobile excursions.

The beautiful 18-hole Oak Harbor Golf Course on the Rainy River is a challenging par 72 championship course. The first nine holes were originally laid out in 1968 and offer scenic fairways nestled into the stunning natural surroundings. The newer last nine holes follow the Scottish link design with large water features and beautiful manicured greens. Any golf enthusiast should make a point of signing up for a round when visiting the area.

In the summertime, a fun family excursion is to go berry picking as you meander your way through the rural scenic roadways. Blueberries grow wild along the roadsides, usually in small pine forest clearings where the sunlight reaches through to the forest floor. The best months for berry picking are July and August and the fruits are especially tasty if the area has had good seasonal rainfall.
